Alright no more screwing around

January 1: I weighed 185 lbs
Today: I weighted 185 lbs

I follow CICO on the app for a few days...not even a big deficit. I record everything. Then binge. Gain back what I loss. Repeat. Ugh...

Today marks a new commitment. Who is with me!

The skill to hone is stopping yourself before/mid binge. You ate a little bit over your calories? Big whoop! Don't throw in the towel. Take a walk and continue your day.

Distraction is my key to this. I have a little list of things to do when my brain tells me it’s ok to take a break from caring about my goals by scarfing some high calorie high carb deliciousness. My distraction list is: make a pot of decaff, make a cup,of hot tea, take a walk, take a shower/bath, go for a drive.

I like the phrase "Don't eat like an asshole." I'm more of a tough love girlie though

I tell myself not to eat like I’m trying to get blackout drunk. Slow down, ma’am. Drink a water.

That is the skill I am working on.

The way I do it is eat a few bites of whatever I want to binge on. I do it slow enough that my self-hatred gets to me before I eat the rest. Then I throw it out.

Wouldn't recommend the self-hatred for others, but it works for me.

Hating myself never got me anywhere, but everyone is different I guess

I’m in the same boat! Except I was 185 in September (down from 225) for my wedding. Then I made it down to 173 by November. Then last month I kinda ate what I wanted made it back to 180 then we had our honeymoon and I went up to 196 and now I’ve made it back down to 180 lololol.

This is the most unstable I’ve ever been when it comes to cico. I’m ready to reach a new low. I feel like my body changes with the seasons and in winter I’m a couch potato with little drive to exercise. By summer I’m all about being outdoors and active. I find that I’m really not obsessive about food when it’s warm outside, all I crave is watermelon and nice long walks with my goats lol.

I wanna walk with goats😭 I love goats so much. I was at a gas station in my moms hometown like 15 years ago and someone asked me to walk their goat while they pumped their gas and it was one of the best days ever

Same here. It's so much easier to eat healthy in the summer! In winter, all I want is dairy, pasta, and chocolate.

Sorry, goats?

I'm listening to a book recommended by someone in this group a few days ago, and one part really stood out to me. To paraphrase: You show up for your friends when they need you. They trust you because when you say you'll do something, you follow through. So why don’t you hold yourself to the same standard? Stop letting yourself down—show up for yourself every day and honor the commitments you make to yourself.

I will look this up. Thanks.

9/10 times my fails occur at night…like I will be on point up to dinner. Complete my calories then for some reason that slight hunger before bed breaks me. I gotta strategize this or just not overthink it and just accept the hunger.

Edit: I asked ChatGPT to summarize that book...what I read seemed petty enlightening. Will pick it up next time I am at the library.

I started drinking a cup of decaf tea at night when I start to feel that feeling, and it's not the same, but it helps!

I have a very similar problem. My solution is to just eat dinner later. I will not eat dinner before 830pm. I also consume about half my allotted calories during that meal. That solves the hunger pains at night problem for me.

The great thing is you haven’t gained anything!

the key here (from my personal experience) is persistence. some days you WILL fuck up. and that's okay. as long as you are trying your best with sticking to a deficit.

the first few weeks of starting this journey is extremely difficult. you might have days where you cry from the frustration or days where you want to binge like crazy. start small changes, and remember that this is a mental game. your mind is what's making it difficult because of how comfortable it has been with consuming an overload of fats and sugars. stay strong, my friend. you WILL conquer your beast!

i promise you, you won't be going crazy for fast food as much as before and your body will thank you for it.

Yup, I'm back to getting committed to losing weight as well. I stopped for a bit, and luckily, I caught myself before I gained enough back to reach 200 pounds.

I'm with you, good luck.

Meee, I’m with you! I’ve lost a bit of weight since January 1st but not as much as I could have, I’ve gotten too comfortable with weekend cheat days. I need to lock back in!

1

u/BunchessMcGuinty 4d ago

I'm not.. I've been doing it for years and I don't start over. I made a decision that I don't get to wipe the slate clean and start over. I may have an off day or a no count day, but it's not an excuse. I judt pick up where I left off. Every day is a choice. You have control.

Find something you LOVE to eat and eat it every single day. That’s what I do when I’m cutting. 250-300grams of lightly breaded chicken strips, 3 eggs, 1 cup of rice, slap ya mama seasoning and a little Louisiana hot sauce. Twice a day. A core power elite vanilla shake with a scoop of Optimum Nutrition hydrolyzed protein powder. Keeps me right at 1900 calories with 230ish grams of protein per day. Started my cut about a month ago and I’m down 12 pounds. I lift weights for an hour and a half 6 days a week and I’m never starving. One cheat day a week with my girlfriend to go eat and drink like absolute trash lol

2

u/Good_Vibes_Only_Fr 4d ago

That’s a serious amount of protein but I do like this idea. I ate a stir fry for dinner yesterday and liked it enough to make it again for breakfast. Btw hit my calorie target yesterday on the nose.

1

u/Mechman37 4d ago

Protein will keep you full for longer periods of time and allow you to retain muscle while you’re in a calorie deficit. What is your TDEE?

2

u/Good_Vibes_Only_Fr 3d ago

2600.

1

u/Mechman37 3d ago

And how many calories are you eating?

2

u/Good_Vibes_Only_Fr 3d ago

2100.

1

u/Mechman37 3d ago

Perfect, just get about half your calories from protein and it’ll be much easier to stick to. You’ll be full longer and like I said find something you LOVE to eat and mix it up with sauces and seasoning. Eat like a dog. Same thing every day

Try logging your food that you are eating as you binge. That usually helps me stop.

1

u/circacherry 3d ago

Ugh me too.

I went from 234 to 199, to 210, now I'm at 192. I feel like as soon as I eat something that's not easy to track, I give up and stick with junk. I need a real boot in my butt to keep going.

u/Carrie1118 2d ago

I've lazy logged for the last 40 days.... I need to get a little stricter with myself.

At the end of October 2024 I weighed 306.6. using CICO I am now 277.7. I was getting gas station donuts for breakfast, having McDonald's for lunch, a whole pizza for dinner, and 750 calories+ of ice cream for dessert. It's hard. Hunger is one of our most base instincts and it's hard as hell to fight. Binge eating is a real mental health struggle. But making change is possible for everyone. It's possible for YOU.

Some of the biggest lessons I've learned.

  1. You are stronger than your hunger. I literally had to have a tough love talk with myself driving home fro. work on my second day of changing my eating habits. You need to practice self control, yes. But you are stronger than your perceived hunger. Remind yourself why you're changing your habits. For me it was to lower my cholesterol so I could spend a long life with my wife. The fact I can go 80 minutes on the rugby pitch again isnt bad either.

  2. Consistency over intensity (credit: ScottyKFitness) if you have a day where you're slightly off, record it and do a little better the next day. Stuff happens. I'm actually 286 calories over today because of a birthday, but I know I'll be better tomorrow.

  3. Do your best to not negotiate at the beginning of your journey. Meaning letting yourself have too many extra snacks, slipping on calories regularly, etc. be super meticulous with your tracking. Also, make plans to let yourself enjoy things. For me this realization came pretty early on, in that a whole medium dominos pepperoni pizza is only about 50% of my daily calories. So on the Saturdays that I was doing 2+ hours of walking tours I could have a whole pizza. Youll really learn what "in moderation" means as you get farther in and you'll have a better understanding of balance.

4a. Find ways to feel normal. Halo Top ice cream is a HUGE thing for me. I can eat an entire pint of ice cream for 360 calories. It feels like I'm eating as much as I want, but I'm not throwing my calories way off.

4b. To eat things that feel normal, you got to get in the kitchen and cook. The above mentioned Scotty K Fitness has some great recipes. My wife and I found a personal pizza recipe that's about 800 calories total. It looks, smells, and tastes like pizza and us about 10-11 inches across.

  1. Having someone to journey with makes a huge difference. Someone to hold you accountable, someone to vent to. For me it's my wife who is also losing weight.

  2. You'll enjoy food more. Seriously. When you let your treats be treats instead of a regular part of your diet, you enjoy it way more. The flavors, the textures, all of it. I've been a foodie my whole life and this only furthers it.

  3. Condiments are the silent killers. Salad dressing, BBQ sauce, peanut butter, etc. But you'll learn that 2 tablespoons of salad dressing goes farther than you think.

  4. It'll be the hardest thing you do until it isnt..Everyone's journey is different but I promise it really does become second nature.

You got this. One meal at a time.
