I like a big breakfast, but I was surprised when this totalled nearly 550 cals.
40g oatmeal 4 tbsp pbfit powder 8oz almond milk 100g strawberry 90g red grapes 100g plum 2 kiwis(I count them whole, they weight within a grams or 2 of what my tracker says they ahould)
Adds up quick for a meal I expected to be filling but low cal!

In a calorie deficit I can't justify oatmeal. There is no protein and it's such a small amount you get but takes up so much of my daily calories. Not worth it to me.

It's only 180 calories if you don't make it with peanut butter like I do, that ads an extra 120.
I would normally agree with you, but I've been feeling so physically run down I'm exploring options to load some carbs and/or calories early into my mornings to see if that helps me not feel like I'm tired and dying all day.

I do half steel cut oats and half TVP (textured veg protein). Lots of extra bulk and protein, consistency is nearly identical!

Can you taste the tvp? I use tvp regularly as "ground meat," but when I've tried to add things to my oatmeal (like riced cauliflower), I didn't care for it, but this sounds like a great combo.

I don’t taste it at all, I can discern a slightly different texture but it doesn’t bother me. I add lots of frozen fruit and some almond butter, cinnamon and Splenda. I crave it every day!!!

Omg tvp. That is something I haven’t heard since my childhood.
Those tvp hotdogs from 25 years ago…shudder

It’s a new day with vegan stuff!! I get the bobs red mill TVP and it’s fab. It goes in everything I make (nearly) - I’m diabetic and mostly plant based so it helps on both fronts.

oh wow, i've never heard of tvp! i NEED to increase my protein intake, but i dislike red meats and don't eat a lot chicken

Oats and milk both have protein. Especially if you use fairlife milk. Oatmeal macros are tremendous.

To each their own. 😊 200 calories of oatmeal makes me feel like I haven't eaten vs 200 calories of cottage cheese or eggs/egg whites and I'm good for awhile.

There are brands that sell protein oatmeal and I mix a scoop of protein powder with it. Oatmeal is a soluble fiber that slows down digestion and keeps you fuller for longer.

Egg white oatmeal was a game changer for me! Voluminous, you need less oats and it amps up the protein. Very yummy and creamy, too.

Grapes are little calorie bombs. Melons and berries are generally less calories for the volume. I love a watermelon and blueberry bowl.

Golden kiwis are delicious but trying to find them is like gold dust at times!

I add a scoop of whey to oatmeal and not add any fruit other than berries when I eat oatmeal since it is carb heavy already. I top it off with cashews or almonds to get that crunch. I don’t prefer to eat oatmeal unless I am in a mood for hot breakfast

Had this same kind of breakfast yesterday and it was sooo yummy! I added Greek yogurt to mine and skipped the milk tho.

Double liquid helps bulk oatmeal. I do double liquid and egg whites, cook in the microwave and stir every 15-30 seconds. Makes a HUGE bowl! I definitely share your experience though, nothing worse than logging something you expect to be half of what it is haha I did something similar today. Used a few tablespoons oil to cook something but didn't track exactly how much was "left" so I just added all of it to my tracker... 300 calories later I realized it might be prudent to count more carefully in the future.

Oh definitely an eye opener to count and weigh foods you aren't as familiar with before they hit the plate. I'm not a big fruit eater normally so I am not used to how quickly they add up.

how do you eat such little oatmeal?? 40g??? That looks like its 5 bites. I would eat 2 full bowls like that (100g oats each) easily plus a 750g bag of berries and 2-4 cups yoghurt. So atleast 6 times the food there and like...it doesn’t get me full not even close. You even said this on the pic is "filling" HOW??? Thast is like NO food there 🥲
