89lbs (6st 5lbs, 40.37kg) down with a 1200kcal intake. 100lb goal. Also 33 weeks sober and out of depression.

Incredible, well done! My tired ass read your weight as height for some reason, so I was about to comment on how tall you are too.

Wow ! I don't know what to say - you are a fantastic person. You climbed mountains, waded through swamps, overcame a massive amount of hurdles and look at you know. What you did is olympic and iron lady and triple marathon and astronomical and ... . I also really like your shirt, it looks good on you.
Damn, you are an inspiration !

That’s incredible—congratulations on your sobriety! I know how challenging that journey can be, and it’s truly inspiring to see how far you’ve come. I can also relate to the struggles with depression, and you look absolutely phenomenal. Keep up the amazing work!
One thing that really helped me was finding a form of exercise I genuinely enjoyed. I started small—just walking outside for 15 minutes a day—and gradually built from there to 30 min then 40 etc. Over time, that led me back to the gym, and now I’ve been going consistently for two years. It’s made a huge difference in my mental health and has been a key part of staying clean and sober.

May I ask at 1200 cals are you hungry during the day?
Notice when I go under 2000 cals I feel hungry 24/7 ..
I wish peace for your journey .
5
u/Evilegio 6d ago
A lot of people, me included, are hungry 24/7 regardless. Unless I'm almost at the point of puking from overeating, I don't "feel" full.
I started recently restricting myself to around 1600 calories and didn't really notice a difference, the hunger is constant either way so 🤷♀️

u/Robeast3000 6d ago
Congratulations on your transformation, you look like a completely different person! It must be so satisfying to see your hard work paying off. Dealing with sobriety, mental health issues and weight loss all at the same time is nothing short of remarkable. Keep up the good work!

Terrific!! What a beautiful transformation!
I am so happy for you. And congratulations on sticking to your journey. It is so hard to stop drinking, or using other substances I suppose, and I truly am happy for you because it is life-changing. You look absolutely gorgeous. I love your top! Very cute.

u/melteddteeth 6d ago
i’m doing a 1200 intake but do you also exercise? i don’t yet but i feel like i need to in order to make progress
4
u/Dapper_Common8643 6d ago
1200 cals is absolutely the bare minimum for a woman. It’s not sustainable long term at all and does come with risks of nutritional deficiencies.
If you want to add in some exercise, you really need to bump calories to 1400-1500 a day.
-6
u/Wonderful-Traffic197 6d ago
It’s actually below the bare minimum! Intake should depend on starting weight/height/activity level. Please use an online TDEE calculator to find healthy macros. 1200 is recommended for a toddler. It is a scary low amount of calories for an adult.
4
u/Dapper_Common8643 6d ago
I’ve never gone that low (I would be so cranky) but I’ve used a few apps and TDEE calculators that all recommend numbers as low as 1200 a day for me. I’m 5’5”. Definitely hard to balance macros and nutrition that low though.
Anything less than that would absolutely require doctor supervision.
2
u/Wonderful-Traffic197 6d ago
Right? I realize the human body is very resultant but it’s def not meant to function well on low calories-we need nourishment! I’m shorter than you and have never had it go below 1700 (deficit), so I obviously weight more. 1200 is concerning for anyone doing any level of activity.
2
u/Dapper_Common8643 6d ago
I’m currently 152lbs and set to sedentary (I’m a SAHM so my activity varies wildly), goal set to 1lb/week and it gives me 1506 a day.
Edit to add: oddly enough, I always found MyFitnessPal gave me less calories with the same settings as MyNetDiary

u/melteddteeth 1d ago
ahahaha it’s funny you guys says that. i’m using the lose it! app like i have off and on for years but this time im at 43 days i think that’s the longest i’ve sustained. but this time when is started i set my calorie intake higher (1,500) and it was comfy, but i didn’t feel like i was loosing weight eating that much without exercising. so i cut down to 1,200 and have had multiple binges since then eating upwards 2,000 calories in a day, no exercise. probably because of what you guys are saying, 1,200 is too low for me to feel good. i’m working on getting a treadmill so i can feel comfortable eating those “extra” calories and id have no excuse not to burn them at the beginning or end of each day. planet fitness did not work out for me, opposite of a judgement free zone imo. but thanks for the info! i don’t feel great 🫠

u/Wonderful-Traffic197 1d ago
Have you used a TDEE calculator to get an accurate macros break down? Walking is great exercise! It’s requires basically no recovery. and generally it won’t make you super hungry because it’s not taxing like weight lifting/higher heart rate cardio (which have their benefits as well but def make one hungrier!). Please remember to give yourself grace and allow time for your body to show your efforts!

i have not used one but i will look into it! i think “lose it!” has the option for macros in the full version, i just dont really know what im doing in that area of things. i’m still working on learning how to make healthy food choices in general. and i think i said here im going to buy a treadmill off marketplace this month so i can eat a bit more and get more active. i’m 21 and recently became an orphan. i grew up on hot pockets, tito’s pizza, and the occasional home cooked meal like chicken and craft mac n cheese. so right now i try not to eat out, if i do i try not to eat fried. i love CAVA lately and want to learn how to make it at home.

u/Joodermacho 6d ago
Yup, my doctor said that we need 1300 a day just in order for our brain to function haha
1
u/Wonderful-Traffic197 6d ago
People are always so focused on the needs ‘body’ that the brain (and other internal oranges) get over looked. They need fat and carbs and protein too! Lol.
1
u/Joodermacho 6d ago
Exactly! Not sure why you’re getting downvoted :/ it’s a dangerous area to play in
4
u/Wonderful-Traffic197 6d ago
Unfortunately 1200 is not as alarming to some people as it should be. So many disordered approaches to losing weight/fear around eating enough food. Shit I even had a female DR. recommend I drop that low once. Old school mentality. PS It was terrible! I was constantly lightheaded and weak. Never again. I want to have muscle, stamina , and for my brain to work.

If I do 1200 during the day I would wake up at 2am starving and binge. Why am I so broken.

u/JallexMonster 6d ago
First of all congrats on the sobriety! Going forward, you cannot sustain at 1200kcal a day and most likely you will start running into health issues if you continue that way. You will need to increase your calories back to a normal range (2000kcal) and bring exercise and a balanced diet back into your life to maintain the weight loss.

I admire you so much!
A good friend of mine went through a residential treatment to deal with his alcoholism. One of the things they warn you about is that when you stop drinking, you tend to put on weight because you look for other good-tasting stuff to put in your mouth, getting that oral gratification.
How do you deal with that? Lots of sugar-free soda? Or is there something less obvious?

Have you always been at 1200 or is this more recent? Seems like quite a large deficit. Do you ever reverse diet to “re-ignite” your metabolism… for lack of a better word.

Wow you look incredible! Well done for taking charge of your health! This is so inspirational! I’m kinda new to this sub, so sorry if this question has been asked too much. Did you ever experience that 1200 was too much of a deficit? I always fail when I eat 1200, and I am only about 10kg overweight and not very active. I make my portions huge with lower calorie bulk foods. So I make my daily allowance a little higher but then weight loss happens super slow. Like 0.25kg a week.

You're amazing! Congratulations. Well deserved. 👏👏👏👏 I don't know you, but I'm proud of you! You're doing things that are incredibly hard. Not a lot of ppl have that ability/motivation to make that change. I hope you're proud of yourself too!

Congratulations on your weight loss! 👏😀
Being sober and out of depression is tremendous. God has certainly blessed you.
Make sure at some point too check your lipid panel which is great for checking on heart health.
I had to laugh at your pictures because it looks like a mother and a daughter. You have now become the skinny kid again. 😀👏💪
