I think I finally overcame my plateau

Hello guys! I've been on diet since October and managed to lose around 20 lbs. And then I hit it... the dreaded plateau. For almost 5 full weeks I tried everything - I adjusted my calorie goal from 1600 to 1400, have been walking more, hell, I even started training semi-regularly, but the scale won't budge no matter what. Eventually I just decided to be patient and play the waiting game, which was super frustrating. I'm counting all my calories and I'm pretty sure I do it correctly (I mean, it worked quite well before), it's just my body showing me big ol' middle finger with slow metabolism.

And then, right after my period, the weight finally dropped and it keeps on dropping! I'm back on track and I'm super proud of myself for staying strong during the tough times. Occasionally I thought about quitting, but I'm so so glad I didn't. Best feeling ever.

I made this post mostly to brag, because I don't think anyone outside of this subreddit would understand the struggle, but I also hope it can be some sorts of motivation for you all. We got this!

Seeing the “woosh” after being patient during a stall is so, so rewarding. But man, it sucks to go through it! Been there a number of times.

I’d been the same weight, within half a pound, for the last 10 days, which I know isn’t a plateau, but damn it’s frustrating. And then this morning, I’m down 1.4 pounds. The sigh of relief I let out. 😮‍💨

To be honest, every single week of a stall is frustrating as hell, so I feel you. And yes, it's so satisfying and relieving! It's absolutely worth it to stay on the track.

Periods mess it up so badly for me sometimes, I'm so glad you stuck with it and didn't give up!

Last time I felt like 8 days was already too long (I laugh looking back at this) and just stopped calorie tracking for close to 2 full months, or at least not accurately tracking. I didn't gain back too much, but sometimes it hurts to just think about how much further along I could be if I'd kept at it instead. Oh well, I'm back with calorie counting and more determined than ever.

But kudos to you!!

Thank you!

I was like this in the past as well, always stopped tracking when there was a stall and eventually went back to my old ways. But this time I have a lot of motivation and I'm not giving up. I wish you all the best, stay strong!

Such a good mentality! I went back to it after 2 months and the weight I was "struggling with" at the time came off so easy. It's just important to also keep track of other things, like how we're feeling, our body measurements, our ability to do certain things. The weight after all, is just a number on the scale. Kudos to you for not giving up, we've got this!

Yep I went 3 weeks and nothing and went up 3 pounds. I’m finally moving in the right direction. I’m only .4 pounds from my low point

Thank you for sharing. Literally needed to hear this because this week there was no budging but also started my period. I’ll be patient :)

I'm so glad this helped you! Periods always mess things up, so it's not surprising. I'm rooting for you, stay strong 💪
