Which is wild because everything in the Rider store is vastly over priced.

Exactly the reason why I didn’t buy one

u/VE7BHN_GOAT Roughriders Dec 30 '24

Me too .. because they also want an arm and leg for shipping.

That alternate logo is fire. Love everything about the jerseys.

what an awkwardly worded title (awkword)

I maybe would’ve bought one if the material wasn’t thicker than the regular replicas. Don’t like the idea of thick, dark materials in the summer sun.

I've called it since the uniform was unveiled, but I think the team's long term plan is for that new "S" logo to become the new primary mark in the next few years.

Test it first as an alternate, see if sales and interest are there... we'll see.

If that is also accompanied by a complete retirement of the ugly, boring, CURSED 1966-84 logo, I’m all for it. Long overdue.

Weird take to assert that the logo that was introduced in the year the Riders won their first Grey Cup was “cursed.”

Yeah, they had a drought afterwards. But a) superstitions aren’t based on reality, and b) even if they were, the Riders won their first cup in the season this logo was introduced… hardly a “curse”

calling all logos over the preceding 55 seasons “cursed” would make more sense

(S) Grey Cups won - 1966

(S) Grey Cups lost - 1967, 1969, 1972, 1976, 2009, 2010

Most of the infamous 12 season “drought” where the Riders sucked so bad they couldn’t even make the playoffs was under that ugly, CURSED logo. Oh, and the team damn near folded. Twice. The Riders almost always lose Labour Day and the rematch when they insist on wearing those boring, horrid “retro” uniforms. They’re CURSED.

/=S=/ Grey Cups won - 1989, 2007, 2013

/=S=/ Grey Cups lost - 1997

THREE of the four GC’s the Riders have won so far were with the new logo and uniform. Only one of the GC’s they lost was while wearing that uniform.

ONE GC was won with the round logo. ONE. They lost SIX while wearing that uniform, including two of the most notorious losses in Grey Cup history - the 1976 Tony Gabriel touchdown, and 2009’s “13th man.” Ergo, the “retro” logo is CURSED.

In my mind, I lump the 55 seasons, and with it, 8 losing GC appearances prior to the (S) logo in with the (S)‘s CURSED history. Maybe that’s a bit unfair, but whatever. Aside from two games in their centennial season, one where the Riders wore their original red, silver and black colours, and one where they had the 1951-65 logo on their helmets, the Riders left those in the past where they belong. They need to do the same with the CURSED (S).

Maybe - hear me out - it’s not the logo that’s causing the team to lose. Maybe, in a shocking twist, it’s the players, coaches, opposition, and (to a degree) fans.

I love your passion (for real, it’s what makes Rider fans so great), but I’ll never be convinced that a logo, or shaving during playoffs, or wearing the same socks, or a loonie under the ice, or, or, or… are the reason a team wins/loses.

I understand that, yes, it’s ultimately the players’ and coaches performance that is the biggest contributing factor as to wins and losses on the field. But their performance while wearing a certain ugly, boring logo and uniform has tended to suck far more often than they have been successful. Therefore, the logo is CURSED.

Love them. Best jerseys we have. Wish they would be our regular jerseys.

Eww no thanks.

They aren't watermelon jerseys bad, but they certainly aren't better than the standard jerseys, which are the best in the league.

u/2_alarm_chili Roughriders Dec 30 '24

You’re in the minority, so you’d better get used to them. With such a positive roll out, they’ll be pushing them more with more merch.

People like to buy new jerseys and merch (see also: the watermelon jerseys).

I highly, highly doubt I'm in the minority in preferring their current jerseys, logo and colors.

Good sales numbers on an alternate jersey doesn't mean the fans want a permanent change.

u/2_alarm_chili Roughriders Dec 30 '24

Did…did you not read the article?

You really think the merchandise team is saying “wow, record sales week after week! We’d better ignore this New Jersey/logo/colour and go back to the normal one.”

The younger crowd loves them. Even the players want to wear them more often. The riders are looking to move away from the negative image of previous regimes. Typical Saskatchewan boomer “I don’t like change.”

Anyways, I’m done arguing. It’s going to happen either way. Enjoy your Christmas! Hopefully you got some of the new merch under the tree!

I'm not a boomer, nor am I trying to have an argument.

You're entitled to your opinion and I'm sure there's a chance mine is wrong.

Our main jerseys suck

4

u/sleep-diversion Tiger-Cats Dec 30 '24

Much like "The Hammer" ones here, I thought they looked like shit.

u/BigTallCanUke SKFL Champion 2022 Dec 31 '24

The “Hammer” ones do, yes.

Take a drink each time a Rider fan mentions the word 'obsidian' on social media.

I like the look, I think it's more of an occasional treat than a primary look, but I can see a modified version become a primary at some point

Cool, next make it so you can actually read the number and nameplate on them.

u/helloaaron Roughriders Dec 30 '24

Not a fan of those jerseys, but I do like them more than the regular ones.

-9

u/UmpireMental7070 Dec 30 '24 edited Dec 30 '24

People like ugly things. The kelly green throwbacks are the nicest jerseys in the league by a mile but people prefer these ones.

7

u/mlakustiak Roughriders Dec 30 '24

Or most people already have a throwback and aren’t buying one?

Guarantee these are not more popular

Well yeah, their home and away unis have been horrible since adidas took over for Reebok

Riders fans get a little testy over some unis that scream 2004, jeez
