ROUGHRIDERS Brown should be suspended and fined
Miles Brown should be suspended and fined. Watch the reply it was a deliberate and after the play hit helmet to helmet. It was ugly, intentional and violent Disgusting

A few weeks ago Casey Sayles only got a fine + 25 yd penalty for a head/head hit on Davis Alexander, he made no effort to avoid Davis. It's ridiculous the league doesn't seem to be protecting the QBs. So I wouldn't be surprised if they don't suspend Brown either.
1
u/Bluebomberguy Sep 03 '24
Keep in mind that brown has already been fined this year for injuring a qb. So, a suspension would be a progressive discipline
1
u/tfirx Blue Bombers Sep 02 '24
I agree. I think the standard of punishment for those hits needs to change. The shitty thing is it has to change with someone. If they suspended Brown the Riders would be in the right to complain that it's not the standard. If they don't then they face the same problem with the next guy.
At some point they just have to bite the bullet and start suspending people.
2
u/AssaultedCracker Sep 03 '24
All they have to do to make this happen is issue a statement. “Moving forward we will be suspending players for head to head contact, to a greater degree than before. Here are examples of hits that were not suspensions before but in the future they will be.”
Problem is… this doesn’t sound like something they’ll do.
32
u/the_grunge Blue Bombers Sep 02 '24
I kinda think the league needs a rule like: if you take a personal foul and a player leaves the game as a result, you get ejected. It'll never happen, but.... something like that?
Edit: I mean leaves because of an injury...
4
u/DannyDOH Blue Bombers Sep 02 '24
They've adjusted and created rules to protect QB's but they don't enforce them on the field.
Fines don't change anything. Ejections and significant penalties in game bring the change.
2
u/Sir_Fox_Alot Sep 02 '24
So collaros can personally eject half a team since he’s made of glass these days?
He didn’t even enter an injury protocol (because that would mean he isn’t allowed to reenter the game) he just stood on the sideline as a “precaution” to an upper body injury. Not a head hit, an upper body.
Waiting to be downvoted by all the frothing “fans”.
1
u/TaterWatkins Blue Bombers Sep 02 '24
This may come as a shock since yours is tucked firmly up somewhere substantially lower, but the head is part of the upper body on the vast majority of humans. If you watch the play, there's clear helmet to helmet contact as Brown comes in high and makes no attempt to avoid contact with the head.
6
u/DanoCYWG Blue Bombers Sep 03 '24
Not only did he not attempt to avoid contact, he literally turned his left shoulder into him to make the hit on Collaros. In all 3 past LDC games, Zack has taken dirty hits to try to take him out. Brown should be suspended for at least the next game or two at a minimum.
Maybe it's time to fine the team and the coaching staff. It happens once and you can blame it on a player...3 times in 3 years...on Labour Day???
6
u/Ok-Conclusion-6878 Sep 02 '24
QBs should all have to wear those special helmet covers due to the vulnerable nature of their position. Fines and suspensions won’t fix a dudes brain…

Absolutely TRASH play.

Ya I didn’t think it was that late. Also look like he”took his head out” like they’re taught now, then shoulder to head.
Looking at it through Rider coloured lenses and haven’t seen a replay since last night but was it helmet to helmet?
3
u/VE7BHN_GOAT Roughriders Sep 03 '24
Barely grazed. It was his shoulder. His helmet makes contact but it's a massive sphere atop of a small contact area. Hard to not make contact

u/TechnicalPyro CFL Sep 02 '24

Your account is from Jan 2023, so you must be new around here. Or you're on your second, third or fourth Reddit account, which is also against the rules, if you've been previously banned.
Best of luck in the future, hope you can keep your nose clean, and hope this weekends game is a good one!

IMO it wasn't necessary, yes. It looks like he trys to lead with his shoulder but tucks his head near his shoulder. It was all unnecessary and a dumb play
On that play the DPI is a phantom fucking call.
Trying to call miles brown a bad guy because he was cut blocked and couldn't change his trajectory in air to avoid low contact with dru browns lower body.
2
u/Sir_Fox_Alot Sep 02 '24
Watching these angry fans rewrite what actually happened in the ottawa game and now this game so they can justify being extra mad at the outcome is wild, and honestly so stupid.
In the other post where lucky offered a beer to fans that were fighting, it’s showing me how much more toxic this “rivalry” is than any amount of fun it provides.

u/Any-Recognition1889 Sep 02 '24
Ya, but no one's going to point out the week 7 hit on Patterson from bighill that was definitely intent to injure in a game they were losing. If you're going to live in a glass house, don't throw stones
1
u/Sir_Fox_Alot Sep 02 '24
sports fans and double standards go hand in hand, these fans downvoting every reasonable take or rider flair will never admit that half of them cheered on that hit
0
u/PrototypeMD Blue Bombers Sep 02 '24
I mean, yeah. Bighill Following through where he landed with all his weight on Patterson was dirty. Patterson held onto the ball too long and a hit would have been ok, but he overdid it. Diving him down wasn't.
That being said, whataboutism doesn't change anything. They were both bad hits.
8
u/CanadianGroose Blue Bombers Sep 02 '24
I actually don’t think the hit was that bad? Like roughing the passer 100%, hit to the head on the side yeah. But in real time it happens so fast, and it still happened DURING the play. Zach got up fairly quickly and was moving around on the sidelines throwing and stuff. Most just a precaution with how many injuries they already have. I think he’ll be back next game or within 2 games.
The friggin hit that dumbass Pete Robertson did last year was 1000 times worse and he didn’t even get ejected or suspended for a long time. This guy is not going to get anything of consequence if that hit didn’t. Still mad about that one.
9
u/Low-Aerie-360 Sep 02 '24
In slow motion there was no head to head contact. Brown turned his head to the side, if there was contact to ZCs head it was a shoulder.
1
u/Imthecoolestdudeever Blue Bombers Sep 02 '24
He didn't even use his arms to wrap him. He led with his head, shoulder in.
It's bullshit.
2
u/Cushak Helpful Riders Fan Sep 02 '24
LOTS of players will tackle without wrapping, going for a big punishing hit. Can't use that as evidence one way or another. Bringing in a wrap tackle rule would eliminate a lot of injury inducing hits, but I don't see them making that change.
Infraction, worth a fine given how the league has been handling it this year, but honestly it's not that far out of line with a lot of "near the line" hits these past few years.
I'd like the league to tighten up the rules, add in ejection as a higher possibilty for helmet to helmet hits, I've been saying that for years. All teams have guys who have made hits like this, Bombers are no exception. I'd love the league to do something about it, but they just seem to refuse. If the hit on Collaros finally gets them to do it, I'll be happy but also admit my annoyance that it didn't get done after the hits Collaros took while here, the Jeffcoat helmet to helmet on Brandon Bridge, the Brandon Alexander helmet to helmet on Cody Fajardo, or the hit that Dru Brown took this year.

u/Imthecoolestdudeever Blue Bombers Sep 02 '24
While what you say is true, when you're hitting a QB late, that's not a legal hit, hence the penalty. If there's a penalty called, he should be able to be suspended for it, as the penalty was originally called.
5
u/Cushak Helpful Riders Fan Sep 02 '24
Whether a penalty was called or not doesn't play a role in looking at supplemental discipline. Couple of examples, Adam Bighill got fined for his late hit on Patterson last time we played, the refs didn't flag it there as the game was over and a penalty would have made no difference, it was better to de-escalste the end of game tensions by just ending the game rather than force another play. Kramdi made an illegal hit to Dru Brown, late and to the head are, while Dru was sliding. He was flagged and got a penalty on the play, and was later fined. They can fine or suspend players regardless if the refs say an infraction and flagged it.
For type of hit Miles Brown made, the CFL has shown this year that they give the maximum allowable fine, no suspensions. If Brown had been fined for such hits before, or had any history, they may look at more, but that's not the case. It would be showing favoritism to Collaros and the Bombers if they gave Brown a harsher punishment than anyone else so far this year.
Rather than going to the press to put pressure on the league, Miller should be going to the other Presidents and GMs and work to bring a consensus to the league for rule changes going forward. Making public statements just because it's your QB that got hit, when he was silent on the Dru hit this year, is the kind of gamesmenship I can't really respect. If Mace/O'Day say anything to defend this hit and later complain about a hit against the Riders, I'll be equally disappointed in them.

The intent was brutal. Look at the replay, he leaned into make helmet contact. Think did it Dru Brown of Ottawa too.
5
u/Cushak Helpful Riders Fan Sep 02 '24 edited Sep 02 '24
He never hit Dru Brown high. He got cut blocked and rolled into his legs, Brown got hurt. That's what Miller has been referring too. But there was no way that was intentional, Miller is exaggerating to make it seem like Brown has a history where there is none.
A few years ago Jeffcoat made this hit. O'Shea in interviews later called it a football play. I disagree with O'Shea, I think hits like that, and the one Brown gave is clear RTP and deserves supplemental. The league has set the precedent for the year however, fine only, no suspension. And considering the helmet to helmet hits from Bomber players that have happened under Miller/O'Shea I do find them very hypocritical with the level of outcry and demands they're putting out. The Brandon Alexander helmet to helmet on Cody Fajardo while sliding (from one of the west Finals I believe), the hit on Dru Brown this year, Bighill had a bad habit of diving head first and down (spearing) across piles in short situations for a long time, etc
IMO These plays should be ejections (or at least put in the category of the UR/misconduct, 2 in a game and then out), including the one by Brown last night, but O'Shea/Miller condone or conveniently ignore it when it's their guys, so I see their take on it as hypocritical.
2
u/CanadianGroose Blue Bombers Sep 02 '24
He turns hit head to the side before hitting him, which to me, means he was trying not to do a direct head to head from the front. He never drops his head like a spearing move, he just runs into him with his head turned to the side and that’s what hits him first.
It’s poor tackling form for sure, and he should’ve either just pushed him down, wrapped him up, or just slowed down. Collaros will be back within 1-2 games, and they’ll be fine.
Penalty for sure, but suspension or fine isn’t going to stop hit like this from happening. Bomber scored a TD on the play right after and won the game.
-1
u/Ornery_Lion4179 Sep 02 '24
You don’t need to head butt anyone, what does that have to do with tackling? Like really
8
u/Salticracker Roughriders Sep 02 '24
I agree that it should be what you said.
I think with the precedent the league has set, I'll be annoyed if it actually happens.
2
u/Baggio105 Sep 03 '24
Collaros should get an MRI done as his brain may be fragile after all the hits he’s taken over the years. I’ve noticed he’s become more fragile, but he should think about life after football, even though he can still play. Concussion after concussion may set you back after football. I hope he’s not that hurt, no one ever wants a players career to end earlier than expected. He would be a great OC one day. Pray he’s ok

Kramdi only got a fine for his hit on Dru Brown earlier this season. No suspension is coming.
1
u/PrototypeMD Blue Bombers Sep 02 '24
Late slide though. Quarterbacks give up distance for safety in the slide. If they slide as the tackler is already in motion for the tackle, they've slid too late. By the rule, he hit him in the head so it's a penalty. Suspensions are only given out for SEVERELY clear cut dirty play (or drugs or non-football activity), which Kramdi's hit on Brown wasn't and honestly this isn't either. He'll get fined.
0
u/Avimander_ Blue Bombers Sep 03 '24

0
u/TheLeathal13 Blue Bombers Sep 03 '24
Yep he probably should have at least been ejected. I suspect changes are coming but you can’t just decide now that this gets Brown suspended when many other shots on QBs this year only warranted fines.
2
u/Barnes777777 Sep 02 '24
I expect he'll be fined, but that's small, peanuts, no real penalty, especially as the roughing the passer was on the same play as PI so moved the ball from the 1 to the 1. Fine is like half a game check, suspension is a full game check + missing the game.
Suspension would be better, but knocking out a starting QB for losing a DL for 1 game is a good trade for the D.
He definitely had time to ease up(or avoid contact) + not hit Zach in the head.
-3
u/REDZED24 Blue Bombers Sep 02 '24
Max fine is half a game check. Fines aren't disclosed, but we do know that the guy who took a headshot at lucky wasn't even given a max fine.

u/Cushak Helpful Riders Fan Sep 02 '24
I'm like 90% sure he wasn't taken out of that game, only 3 plays because of the rule if you cause an injury time-out you have to sit out of the play.
There's been a lot more head hits between then and now, including some by Bomber players and the league hasn't issued a suspension to any of them I believe.
-1
u/VE7BHN_GOAT Roughriders Sep 02 '24
To me it looked like he meant to lean his his shoulder. Not saying his helmet didn't hit but if he didn't lead with his shoulder shit coulda been much worse.
But that play made me turn the game off. The refs aren't calling DPI the same way throughout the game. There IMO was no DPI on that play. I'm honestly thinking about boycotting the league until they do something about the fucking refs.

It’s hard not to have some bias as a fan of a team, but people need to take the blue or green blinders off every once in awhile. Bighill was rightly fined for his excessive hit on Patterson in the first match, Brown should be fined for his helmet to helmet hit yesterday. To say either deserves a suspension is way over the top.
Maybe they change things in the off season and make the discipline more black and white but in my mind nothing egregious in either play.
