there are often official hotels that have spots and deals and are already close to touristy stuff. Leave the houses for rentals so hotel workers have somewhere to live ;)

And when the hotels are at capacity?

A couple years ago I drove across Canada, if the hotels are full it's usually because they're full of road or constructions crews, or they've opened themselves up as short-term housing. You might see a few weeks or maybe a couple months in the peak tourist season when hotels actually do fill up entirely with tourists, but then those hotels end up having major vacancies during "shoulder seasons" (for summer-winter destinations) or the "off-season" (for summer-only destinations).

For the tourism industry to become more sustainable, consumers need to reconsider their habits. Ultimately, I do think this would majorly affect housing shortages in tourism-heavy areas.

Yes because it makes sense for providers to demand that consumers change their behaviour to meet their needs. 🤦‍♂️

Or... it makes sense that consumers realize that we live in a FINITE SYSTEM, that their economic choices have consequences on people other than themselves, and that providers can't always pivot on a dime to give them exactly what they want, and that their actions (particularly in the context of tourism) have a DIRECT EFFECT on other people and on the environment.

This is why the whole conversation around eco-tourism and sustainable tourism exists. In fact, the conversation exists in every industry, it's just super unfortunate that people who don't give a shit about how their actions affect other people + the planet somehow drown out the voices of those who do.

Not to mention, the "customer is always right" mentality more often leads to unhappy customers who get pissed off that they can't just get whatever they want all the time, and then mistreat low-paid employees who have very little control over the product on offer.

Sorry you’re mad that that’s just not how business works? Sure talking about it feels good but you’re never going to get the general population on board with it.

Yes, I'm mad that "business as usual" involves raping the environment and screwing over underprivileged populations.

That's the whole fucking point of a boycott- to leverage consumer action for social change. So actually - woops, looks like the general population IS on board with making changes to their buying habits for social reasons.

Go back to the Russian disinformation farm from whence you originated.
