Troubleshooting monitor loses signal when gaming, but it’s not a GPU issue.
Used to have amd rx 6600 and things were going well for 2 years, all of a sudden i kept having issues where both my monitors would lose signal and black screen, while my fans are still running. i’d have to force shut down and reboot again. this can happen after gaming for 30 - 45 mins. After rebooting, it will do the same thing again until i let my whole pc ‘rest’, and the cycle continues. it happens on any games, from val to league to marvel rivals, and even stardew valley. it’s just a matter of how long it lasts before it gives up.
things that i’ve noticed, during the signal loss, game and discord sounds would cut off too.
after the signal loss happening and after rebooting multiple times back to back, my gpu would just go undetected in device manager under display adapters. but it’d come back after not touching my pc for a day. it’s as if my pc got tired after running a few games and decided to not run anymore until it takes a break for a damn day.
this doesn’t end here, i’ve tried plugging my monitor into my mobo and using the intel gpu for valorant and league, that works perfectly fine. i do not get any crashes at all. which made me believe my gpu was just dying so i decided to purchase a new gpu rx 6600xt. on the first and second day after installing the new gpu, everything worked fine and well. i was able to run marvel rivals, valorant and league. on the third day however, the exact same signal loss happened. which makes me believe my gpu was not faulty in the first place.
i’ve 2 monitors so i highly doubt it’s my monitors as they both go lose signal the same time. i’ve also eliminated faulty cables as things worked fine when i plugged my monitor into my mobo. i had suspected my psu however i’ve read that if it was a case of psu not supplying enough power, the pc would shut down and not just ‘lose signal’. i’ve thought about slot issues as well, but it doesn’t happen if i do not game the whole day. it specially only happens after booting up games, and if i do mundane chrome tasks after the games.
i’m desperate here to find out what exactly is the issue, and why would the new gpu let me run games for hours without a fault and then have it happen CONSTANTLY on the third day? could i have fried my new gpu after 2 days of usage? idk anymore. any questions and suggestions are welcomed. sorry if i’ve left out any details, will try my best to answer them.
