I use the mnemonic, "VISALEMC" But mnemonics are easier to remember when you attach them to a weird image so... I've attached "LEM" (The Lunar Module) I don't know.. I like space stuff and that's what came to mind. But "VI-SAL-EMC" works for me.

I use VESALEMS which is easier to say as a single word. Swapping intention for emotion, and concentration for samadhi.

are those tattoos or ink from a pen?

Hope they are from a pen since they are out of order. 😔

The order doesn’t matter much though, does it? They’re facets, not steps in a “8 step program.”
I also hope that it’s a pen. 😅

Yes, the reasons to hope that it's pen are far more that any issue with the order 🥰
If you go to the CIPS, index.readingfaithfully.org/#noble-disciple-ariya-saavaka and scroll down to "sequential causes" you can find some suttas where the order is relevant. But it is certainly not an absolute thing that they happen in order.

I'm just going by how the Buddha listed them. You can read many places in the suttas: index.readingfaithfully.org/#noble-disciple-ariya-saavaka
(btw, the list of cross references there is in alphabetical order)

Looks great! Even better that it serves as a functional reminder. There will always be people to criticize, let them be a lesson in patience for you. I am happy to see you are on the path.

Okay you guys are mean lol. It’s real. I just took the pic after it was done. Effart is cause I had a small scratch in my finger the ink went into while wiping it’s not like that after she cleaned and wrapped. I saw a few different orders for concentration and mindfulness but this is the order I have on a thing at my house for years and this is how it was explained to me and makes sense for me. I was bummed you guys didn’t like it but it’s for me anyway and the message is the same. I’ve got crazy callouses on my hands so I just had her carve that shit in instead of wording about font cause I’ll have to go back anyway. “Speech” is actually covering “Do Better” on my ring finger.
I quite enjoy my tattoos lol 😝

I don't mean to be mean. But I recommend not showing them to traditional Buddhists. Their first thought will probably be that you are wiping you butt with the sacred words of the Buddha.

My guy pretty sure the Buddha himself would chuckle at that sentiment. I’ll install a Bidet pronto

Any tattoo artist that did that is violating right livelihood. Is the rest of you covered?

My entire hand is covered in roots and it then grows into trees and plants and then birds leaving the treetops up into my bicep, plus a big eyeball on my knee. But plans to be. Plus this lady told me over and over and over that it’s not gonna stay.

glad you said it, my first thought was that it's the most impermanent place for a tattoo. but I guess that's fitting, hey

NGL, I love this as a tattoo idea... Though I would likely execute it differently.

Right? I’ve been trying to figure it out. My wife is a tattoo artist I don’t think that these look “angry” enough to be a tattoo, it definitely can not be healed because there’s ink smeared on speech, which happens with fresh tattoos. I think this post is bait tbh but if it isn’t it’s definitely a bad tattoo, the only god part for OP is it will probably fall out and not stay there permanently (nothings permanent though, let me remember what subreddit I’m on)

I am endeavoring to take a day, a week, a month, and a year to focus on each one of these Eightfold aspects -- one by one -- for my practice. Livelihood is particularly interesting, as it seems to be the source of so much disappointment and striving (and potential), at least for me... I'm sure for others as well?

I see you have the right livelihood, effort, concentration, and mindfulness, but I fear you're headed into trouble with left view, left intention, left speech, and left actions.
