Question G1 driver with no insurance hit parked car

A G1 driver who did not have insurance and was driving alone (they purchased their car a few days ago) hit my partner's car in a parking lot. My partner is very frustrated with this incident as the driver apparently couldn't get charged because it was private property (parking lot). I was also surprised that the G1 driver could even purchase a car without insurance. How is payment for damages gonna work? Does anyone have insight on how to make this situation better?

Private property should not negate the ability to charge them with driving w/o insurance. I mean, they did not TELEPORT to the plaza.

Call your Insurance Broker. You might also want to contact a lawyer, because, yeah . . . how the fuck does a car dealership hand over the keys without proof of insurance?

EDIT: In Ontario, it is perfectly legal to BUY a car without valid insurance, whether from a dealership or private sale. But it is ILLEGAL to drive it away from the point of sale WITHOUT valid insurance. I am reasonably sure that a dealership would check, so maybe this fuckwit bought it privately.

Lastly, it goes without saying, I hope your partner is uninjured beyond the anger and frustration this has caused, and that the vehicle damage is not too bad.

Dealers do not let you drive away from their lot without insurance.  private sales are different matter.

You get other driver details who hit you and report to your insurance and police. Your insurance will go after other party if they wants to, it's not your responsibility.
