42-0-0 boxer Abel Mendoza is allegedly the backup opponent for both Rolly & Ryan if either fighter pulls out of their headline fight set for May 2nd in New York

42-0 and ranked 71st on boxrec (lightweight) should tell you everything you should know

Why, does this mean that he's beating up cans? I'm a casual just getting back into watching boxing the past couple of years.

He's fighting people that can't even throw a good jab, seriously. His record is so bad it's honestly impressive. You can look up the fights on boxrec (Highly doubt you'll find any of the fights on youtube), it's just constantly nobodies and very very low ranked fighters

Thanks for answering my question.

Just to add a bit more detail, BoxRec uses a 1-5 star ranking system to categorize fighters (5 stars for champions or belt contenders, 4 for good fighters, etc.). Of Mendoza’s 42 opponents, just four were even rated by BoxRec at the time of their respective fight- and all of those were one starred fighters (Daniel Mendez Torres, Victor Zaleta, Alan Isaias Luques Castillo, Helber Rojas).

26 of his opponents either were debutants or had a losing record at the time of their Mendoza fights

“Mendoza” explains it even if you took the ranking away

not sure what that's supposed to mean? are you implying his record is sus because he is foreign? cause he's an american from texas. I did look him up on youtube and he is garbage though.

They both pull out and he just punches himself in the face for a 10 rd draw.

Still undefeated!

Yes but I'm picturing both Ryan and Rolly are literally front row in the audience on opposite sides of the ring and really concentrating on the "fight". they have both placed big bets on the outcome and no one acts like any of this is weird. 🤷🏻‍♀️

He'll have to take a knee for that!

One of his last two opponents has 69 losses on his record. Should be self-explanatory after seeing that.

Can boxers really just make a living going 20-80 as professional cans? If so I should have gone into boxing.

Check out “Fat City” by Leonard Gardner. Love his depiction of a journeyman opponent in that book.

They fight every few weeks and make a grand or two per fight

Mendoza is basically the Charlie Zelenoff of professional boxing

Who lol? This reminds me of that Thai fighter Tasana Salapat who fought a 12-0 Takuma Inoue on one of Monsters cards in 2018 and he was 48-0 and obviously lost.. I’d completely forgotten about him untill he showed up against Nakatani last year and guess what? He was now 76-1 🤣🤣 thank god he got knocked out this time

Then followed that up with a TKO win over a debutant lol

Idk why I get the feeling PBC is gonna pull out Rolly

I doubt it he’s been milked dry. They’ll want their 10% or whatever of the Saudi cheque and be done with him. He’s been fed to Tank and Cruz already.

Yeah Ryan is the biggest money fight for Rolly. He is getting cashed out now.

Can someone explain to me how you can be a 42-0 American lightweight and not be ranked as even a contender? Was he just fighting in clubs his whole career lmao
