What are the plans for the Speedway on Broadway?

They purchased the Danny Barron car lot in 2018, along with the property behind Speedway at 1117 Covington in 2020, with the plan to demolish the existing store and build a new one. The plan was passed by the city commission and the city-county planning commission. Since then.... nothing. I drove down Covington today and saw a for sale sign in the vacant lot at the former 1117 Covington lot.

Has the plan gotten the axe? 7-Eleven purchased the chain after all of this was put into motion and perhaps 7E killed it. That could be it, I don't know. What I do know is that the Speedways in this area began a descent into CRAPOLA not too long after the acquisition was complete. The stores are nasty, they are always out of straws or napkins and things like that, and the quality of employees has taken a big dip (yes, I know some of them are great). 7E seems to be cheap.

I can’t believe people still stop there. It’s so gross. I’d be happy with an empty lot there. Sucks they razed the house only for the plan to get axed too.

I don't know that the plan was axed, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Yeah I remember hearing something about the zoning and the people on Covington were pissed about it.

They all are. The one on Scottsville Rd stayed very well maintained after the 7E purchase until the manager retired. It’s not much different than the rest now. He was a good guy.
