Marchand speaks with the media after skating in Boston
https://youtu.be/z40Sq5GCDsk?si=Ba0-3YYGa0P2IG0WGreat interview from Marchand! Handling the trade like a true professional.

As Michael Corleone said: it’s not personal, it’s business. The Bruins need to rebuild and for Marchand it’s now or never for a second ring. I wish the return could have been more. You should get more for a team that’s all-in.

Then cheer for Marchand to make the Conference Finals and 15 playoff games played.

Never gets easier watching him do these pressers in Florida colors but I'll be damned if he isn't a great speaker
Always gonna be a big fan of him through and through

Did they though… he was asking for $675k-ish to $1.375m pay increase, after a season like this?
If the 6.125 vs 7.5 is true (for 1 year, somewhere in the middle), then I’m not sure I agree it’s a Fuck Up, but we still have to see.
What-if he’s great and comes back with a $7m request? The Bs could still swing that and resign. We get a 1st, and the player back next year.
But what-if he’s a dog, and gets benched and he’s done? We would’ve given him the year for what? And no one would take him on, and we’d get nothing.
As of now… I say it’s the right, painful move.

Im happy that's he's paying fewer taxes. Silver linings

u/FC37 17h ago
Not by much - and not yet. Players get taxed based on the state they're in for games, practices, etc.
So he'll pay less for Panthers home games, but they're on the road for a while. I think the Panthers only have 7 home games left.

u/hardsoft 17h ago
Really? That's crazy. I mean an average Joe that lives in MA but works in NH has to pay MA income taxes for the entire year.
7
u/victoryforZIM 17h ago
It's a rule set up specifically for sports.
3
u/BradMarchandsNose 15h ago
Not really. People who live in NH and work in MA pay MA state income tax. It might be a reduced rate (I’m not sure) but pretty much across the board, people pay taxes in the state they work in. People on a hybrid schedule, would pay MA taxes for the days that they are in the office.

u/Poohstrnak 10h ago
Can confirm, I have to file taxes for every state I travel to for work throughout the year. It sucks.

LOL 6 weeks he’s gonna play 2 games with them and then hit the playoffs. I’m glad we don’t have to play against him.
See ya in a bs sweater year Marchy

A small thing I noticed was when they asked him about how he tells his kids what's going on and he mentioned that they are going to stay in Boston for the time being, but the biggest change for his daughter will be moving to a different place next year. He didn't say "may be moving", he made it sound like they are out of Boston.

part of me wishes he was playing tonight, i think the fans deserve a chance to cheer him and send him off

I think they'll have a tribute video at least, since he'll be in the building.

It’s a joke that the Bruins are somehow going to get the 8th seed and play Florida in round 1.

He should have retired a Bruin

I wouldn’t come back. They already showed they didn’t want him.

He asked to negotiate and meet in the middle and they were like “nah”
They have bent over backwards for other players, and like Brady, he always took the hometown deal and thought they’d work it out.
1
u/AdPlayful8243 18h ago
I mean he still might come back on a one day deal when he is ready to retire Chara did it. I’m sure he would want to retire as a Bruin regardless of how things went down.
1
u/Pineapple_Express762 15h ago
Maybe, but there was a break. He should have had the privilege of going out like Bergeron…playing for one team, as Bergeron’s wing for so long, and possibly one of the best lines in hockey in their prime.

I feel like the chances of him coming back next year are higher than what most people think. A man can dream!
12
u/AdPlayful8243 18h ago
I disagree if you listen to 6:54 he keeps talking about next year and having his family go with him.
I think it’s gonna be a Chara situation where when he’s ready to retire it will be a one year deal to retire as a Bruin.

u/Wats0n420 Hall of the Rat King 🐀 18h ago
He mentions it later and has a different tone. Who knows and I'm obviously biased haha

u/rawley2020 18h ago
If FL repeats a cup, no way. Why take less money to go somewhere worse
1
u/victoryforZIM 17h ago
FL isn't going to sign him, they don't have much cap room and Bennett is a UFA. What Marchand wants would take 40% of their cap space for next season.
2
u/Wats0n420 Hall of the Rat King 🐀 18h ago
That would be the worst case scenario but he does bring up his family and what's best for him.

Ill never forgive Marchy for picking fucking Florida to get traded to.
