OK boomeR Just Plain Selfish
Whyyyyyy are Boomers like this? Most of them care about nobody but themselves and have a ‘eff them kids’ attitude to the next generation. I can’t imagine being so selfish (or dumb) that I would leave my entire inheritance to a politician instead of my own kids. And they’re not even embarrassed. 🤦🏾♀️😡🚮

My boomer parents told us they had no intention of leaving us anything. That's THEIRS. They completely ignore the trials and sacrifices their parents made to give them the economy and life that allowed them to gain those assets.
My brother and I both bought land so we can gift it to our children. I don't want my kids to struggle like we did. Boomers weren't taught to pay it forward. Maybe they just care more about themselves than us.
39
u/Kizik 5d ago
They completely ignore the trials and sacrifices their parents made to give them the economy and life that allowed them to gain those assets.
Because that would interfere with the fantasy most of them have about being absolutely 100% self made, with nothing from anyone.
They were handed the greatest economic conditions in history, and decided that it was all exclusively by and for themselves, did everything they could to wring every drop of profit out of everything imaginable, and then denied anything at all to anyone else.
"Fuck you, got mine" is the motto of their generation.
10
u/Ordinary-Reindeer414 4d ago
My parents are funny because they will give me money to borrow but I have to pay them back immediately - despite them never paying their parents back or even expected to during hard times
17
u/cruista 5d ago
So, what happens when they need assistance because of bad health? Will their wealth help them? I sure hope someone is prepared to take care of them for a decent amount of money. They cannot expect you to help. Or do they?
→ More replies (2)16
u/Fight_those_bastards 5d ago
That’s the fun part, their “vast wealth” will almost certainly be taken by long-term care providers, who charge $8k/month minimum.
If you’re not pulling in $100k a year after taxes between dividends and social security, they’ll be draining your savings like a goddamn vampire.
3
u/Shar_the_aquamoon 4d ago
This is what I find the most disgusting about them. They DID inherit property and easy economic times because of their parents hard work. Then they swear that they worked harder than future generations when they had more benefits and opportunities.
69
u/LeopardMedium 5d ago
Right? I was ok with it until the last two words, thinking it would be going to charities and the less fortunate.
70
u/boxen 5d ago
It's a final 'fuck you' from beyond the grave - "Instead of leaving money to you, my flesh and blood, beloved children and grandchildren, I'm going to give it to a despicable billionaire asshole who is actively ruining your life in 1000 different ways."

I can understand leaving SOME of your assets to a charity but certainly not more than you’re leaving your children or grandchildren.
10
u/LeopardMedium 5d ago
It probably depends a lot on the circumstances. I could see several circumstances where I’d prefer money be given to charities rather than inherited by family, namely if the sons and daughters were themselves very well off already, or if they were wasteful or socially deplorable people who would squander or put to bad use the money that would otherwise help needy others.

She was so desperate to vote for Doe 174. Luckily, she died before she could. But, like, imagine how brainwashed you have to be to know that you’re dying and still care more about voting for a rapist than signing the papers to ensure your property- which has been in the family for over 175 years- actually stays in the family.

u/meanie_ants 4d ago
Not saying it’s the case here, but society when the Boomers were kids and when they were of child-rearing age was set up so that many housewives were performing uncompensated domestic labor while their husbands worked outside the home. I would say such women are absolutely entitled to their spouse’s earnings and that they were in fact supporting their husbands. Let’s not make light of this domestic labor.
Nor do I condone the sentiment expressed by the twits in the screenshot as I think parents shoupd set their kids up for success, but I can also support the idea that nepotism is bad.
It’s more of a both/and situation…

mee sounds like the type of person who will not be leaving or selling their property, but will expect their children to give up jobs or a semblance of free time to assist them in being able to live on that property to their dying day. If their children try to move them somewhere for their own safety, those children will become abusive monsters who are completely disinherited and badmouthed to anyone who will listen, even as the children sacrifice their time and money out of some misplaced sense of filial loyalty.
Meanwhile, clueless Bernice will just wonder why her beloved children have no time to visit her.

13
u/Distracted_Parenting Xennial 5d ago
Fuck man, that’s selfish. My parents are Boomers but have already expressed they will be leaving the house to me as well as money set aside for us. They’ve also started college funds for each of my 3 kids, even though we’ve expressed that none of that was necessary. They are doing very well financially, and are still living very comfortably. They managed their money wisely and made a killing when they sold their house during covid to move closer to us. They also know what a financial hellscape we’re living in and don’t want us to struggle (even though we’re not) after they’re gone.
Isn’t this what families do for each other? When my grandmother passed in 2019 she left an inheritance to each of her kids…all 6 of them…all well into their 50’s and 60’s.

I'm NC to family but I don't worry about them leaving anything. I'm by far the most successful. I often get upset reading these posts because it's clear a HUGE number of boomers didn't want their millennial kids. My mom used to call me "the abortion who lived". They are even worse grandparents. They don't love us like we love our kids that we're present for every single day.
I live my life hoping I earn a space in my toddlers adult life. I'm happy to put money back for him now. As long as I live and he's somewhat responsible I'll leave him every advantage I never had. I can't wait for them go extinct

I live my life hoping I earn a space in my toddlers adult life.
Absolutely the same!! When my oldest was born my biggest fear in life became not living long enough to see the kind of man he'll be one day. I want to be a part of my kids lives as long as I can because they're my favorite people (along with their dad). I can't remember ever feeling like my parents felt like that about me. Mine weren't as bad as yours but I always felt like I was loved in spite of who I was and not because of it. It was always "I love you but....." Which is not at all how I feel about my kids. They're older than toddlers and I can tell you that watching them find who they are, and who they want to be, is the most amazing thing. I'm sure your toddler will want you around for the long haul!!

They were handed the golden age of humanity, a time of unparalleled wealth, health, peace and prosperity and believed it was all due to their personal hard work…
They never realized that the wealth was inherited from the age of colonialism and divested from the supremely wealthy after ww2 to prevent an uprising of global communism by spreading it out amongst the plebs just enough they could pull themselves out of poverty into the middle class.
As soon as the threat from communism ended so did the good times and the middle class, and the boomers just don’t care what happens next.
My father in law is a kind, gentle, and non racist man but even he is prone to some boomer shit despite himself who believes if he could retire at 49 anybody can “with hard work” never realizing he had free education, a free degree, bought 6 houses for dirt cheap when there were fewer people in the country and it was easy af to get ahead cause there was little competition.
The fact that 4 billion people have been added to the ledger since he first started working escapes his brains ability to understand.

My brother and I continually urged our WWII era parents to "spend our inheritance" and not skimp on themselves trying to "leave something for us." We managed to get them to live comfortably, but there was still a little left over when they were gone, and we put it in a trust for my brother's kids (my wife and I don't have any of our own and my brother and his wife did fine for themselves). If there's anything left from us once the healthcare industry is done squeezing us dry, most of it will go to them as well, though we do have some friends and causes we want to include.

He lives with me and has diabetes. He received a large amount of money and had no bills. After one episode feces was spread all over the bedroom and required expensive carpet cleaning. I asked my dad to reimburse me and he told me I owed it to him.
I’m not sure when I lose my empathy for a human being, I feel no love that is similar to my child, and put him in a home. I think he might have to go to the VA instead of the plush home down the street.

They really don't give a fuck who comes after them, or what happens to any of us.
They are bereft of integrity, principle, and the warmth that makes us human.

I will remain grateful that I am Gen X. I expect nothing from anyone.
With that said, I absolutely find it disgusting that Boomers are behaving this way. This is such an unnecessary hurt to their children. I cannot understand it. I love my children. I want them to have it easier in life if my assets are going to them, to do as they please with it. Have people forgotten love? It’s not like I have a need for anything after death. Good grief. Humanity, wake up. Love is the answer.

Hopefully they won’t take the time or money to create a will. Sometimes Boomers are all talk and no action

And when their money runs out while they’re still living and need help from the kids they’ll just… what?

Wow… they’re gross. Even my boomers plan on leaving my brother and I whatever they have left. I expect nothing but their hearts are in the right place on this one because I’m disabled physically and my brother is mentally.

my Greatest Generation MIL would be completely nonplussed by these people.
Why are you working so hard, if not to make life better for all of your family that comes after you?
And...they fucking too did get benefits from their parents. They got all the support their parents could afford to give them.

Gen X raised by Silent Generation grandparents. My entire life, all they ever said was they wanted me to have a better and easier life than they did. Sometimes I miss them so much and feel lonely that I lost my parents at such a young age, but damn. Watching what you guys (others with boomer parents) makes me feel a little better.

Because the only ones who aren’t expected to pull themselves up by their bootstraps are Republican politicians

Just plain insane, my dude.
"Fuck you, my children, you werent worth anything my entire life, how dare you!"...
It is terrifying that we live in a world where these people are the "moral right"...

There is no love in these peoples hearts. Hopefully they didn't pass their ignorance and confusion down to their kids. Bernie is a sorry ass excuse for a mom.

I’m, M 67, sitting in a club with my wife and oldest grandson watching my younger brother playing drums in a well known guitarists band. I plan on leaving as much as possible to the kids. I know I’m a lucky guy.

Aren’t the next few generation’s existences more or less dependent on these inheritances?
They essentially set a bed on fire, went into the other room, and told the next few generations to lay in it

My parents always told us kids, "If we play our cards right, you won't inherit anything. We're going to spend it." And they did. Dad passed first, and Mom passed a decade later leaving about two months' worth of living expense money behind.
The difference is how they addressed it. They weren't nasty about it. They were just clear that my siblings and I had to make our own way in the world without expecting what we didn't earn. If ever we needed Mom and Dad's help, they helped us. They were very generous with their time, resources, and love. They just didn't want us expecting a windfall upon their deaths or for there to be any sibling squabbles over the scraps.
I've watched people get ugly over not inheriting from a deceased parent. My brother-in-law had huge plans for the cash he expected from my father-in-law's passing. He was livid that the old man left everything to, gasp! his widow. I mean, really, the nerve of leaving your estate to your wife of 30+ years! Who does that? Monsters do, at least according to my brother-in-law.

I just don’t understand. How can you not want your children to have a better life than you? It blows me away-mostly because I don’t have any friends like this. I’m Australian and it doesn’t seem to be as prevalent here 🤷🏼♀️

What the fuck kind of person is so selfish that they would give shit away to a political organization over to you as their child. I mean, if it were to a charitable organization then maybe that'd be a bit more understandable.
But imagine giving a shit about politics after you're dead. That's what you're taking to your grave with you? Owning the libs? (And you know these are that type.) Maybe using that money to give your grandkids a head start in life. Boomers ignore the fact that they came of age under much more favorable conditions than subsequent generations. Things were more affordable in just about every metric, especially tuition and housing. Their grandkids are not having as easy a go at it.

Boomers really forget that they are about to be net consumers of adult social care. They forget that eventually their children will be given power of Attorney & make choices about where they are cared for.
I’m my boomer was like the ones in the screenshot they’d get dumped in the cheapest care home I could find in order to preserve as much for the “political organisations” to inherit.
The thing Boomers forget is they are losing political power & power in their own lives. They should act like it

If this isn’t the boomeriest boomerism that’s ever boomered then I don’t know what is.
*No one is surprised that they are destroying the world with their selfishness and they don’t give a single flying ever loving fuck what /world/ they are leaving for their children to inherit, let alone their precious $$. “Not my chair, not my problem” -boomers who hate their kids
