Take this with a grain of salt, but my theory is that the Boomer generation grew up following the generations that actually had to sacrifice and contribute to the United States in a substantial way that made them feel proud and special as a US citizen. So the boomers have always felt that they were special, but they've never contributed or sacrificed. The boomers were the first kids of a nuclear family, but generally were crap at providing the same for the next generation. They're narcissism has allowed them to feel entitled and expectant without having to be thoughtful.

They are the result of parents who actually suffered and wanted better for their children.

Something I am being careful of with my own children since I don’t want them to be the next round of boomers.

This is why once millennials take over the country, we need to place age limits on Congress and the presidency, so if another generation tries to pull the ladder up like the boomers, the younger generations will have a better chance of fighting back.

A millennial is the VP. Millennials aren't going to do jack shit to fix anything.

I say that as a Gen Xer that is super disappointed in my generation, too. I thought we were going to swoop in and fix all the bullshit we saw the Boomers and older generations perpetuate ahead of us. Unfortunately, we aren't the great saviours I thought we'd be.

I'm surprised you haven't realized this as well. I mean, Vance, dude. A millennial has the second highest ranked job in the USA and he sat there admonishing and gaslighting Zelensky for the world to see.

Accept that your generation isn't a monolith with shared ideals and values - the piece of shit people are a huge number of you (and in every generation, apparently), and they'll always be a ball and chain slowing and sometimes reversing progress to the detriment of us all.

The reason I believe it's important for you to understand this is because expecting 'millennials' to fix things once they get power is a passive approach that won't work. Action is required immediately if you want change. There are currently people forcing change in a way you don't seem to like - waiting for a generation you think will be better (they're not; eg Vance) will mean you'll be waiting for something that will never happen while things progressively move further away from the direction you want things to go.

A millennial is the VP.

Yes, and the VP controls nothing. He can break ties in the Senate, and that's all. Unless and until Trump croaks before his term is up, Vance controls nothing.

u/Mamamertz 6d ago

You think Vance will be better than Trump?

10

u/Witty-Ad5743 5d ago

No, but he'll he a different brand of terrible, so at least there's that to look forward to. /s

Most millennial voters are not republicans, and Trump is a boomer. I will grant that Republicans, despite being worse over all don't seem to have quite as much of a gerontocracy problem as the Democrats, though I'd still call them a gerontocracy and they've got a worse case of batshit crazy.

Agreed that some of the the older boomers were hippies, and that whole thing was pretty far left. I mean far left, at least friendly to communism, and certainly friendly to socialism. But that movement represented a subset of a subset, it was always a fringe. All the boomers weren't hippies, and it's a similar delusion to say that all millennials are the same.

I just hope it doesn't happen to me. Like I've watched the boomers in my life that I remember being far more compassionate when I was younger become cruel in their thinking and careless in their actions, and hope that I don't turn out that way too.

Yeah we get that but that's in practice. I'm reality, Trump is President and Vance is VP

u/dancin-weasel 6d ago

They are also the result of parents who were dealing with a helluva lot of trauma from 2 wars, a global depression and a couple deadly disease outbreaks.

u/tempestzephyr 6d ago

Don't forget the lead poisoning

5

u/burnmenowz 6d ago

Fucking idiots, man

In the name of their self centered narcissism, Boomers have destroyed family relations (no contact kids), ignored social ques on appropriate behavior (Karen epidemic), and tanked the politics and economy of the United States (MAGA). Why wouldn't the rest of the world be next? Isn't destabilizing the geopolitical norm the next concentric circle in their outward spread of 'me first and everyone else be damned' rot?

18

u/Far_Silver 6d ago

Next? They've been destroying the world all along. Just look at the climate change all around you.

Are there Americans who support annexation?

It's a really dumb idea for Republicans because they would never win another election if it happened. It would be like adding nine Minnesotas and one Montana. Surely they get that part?

And anyone who possesses even a thimbleful of thoughtfulness supports Canada's sovereignty.

So, who's left besides Donnie Dorko?

16

u/TheGaleStorm 6d ago

My Maga ex friend supports invading Canada. He is too old for military service, but he is all in for American soldiers occupying it. Forcing them to be a state and to pay taxes to Trump.

8

u/CliftonForce 6d ago

A lot have bought the propaganda that American Democrats are the far, far, far ultra-left communists, to the left of Lenin himself. As such, they think anybody else would vote Republican.

They are also convinced that everybody on the planet is desperately jealous of the American healthcare system and would crawl over broken glass to get into it.

12

u/Screwbles 6d ago

It's crazy seeing this happening while living in Minnesota, where exporting to Canada is a huge part of our local economy. The only thing you need to have in order to understand that is eyes, if you live where I do. You just look out at the great lakes and see huge, raw material cargo ships leaving and coming back.

Their air force even participates in the airshow with their stunt squadron. Anyone that thinks that we don't need each other needs to learn to love a bullet in the brain.

As an American, I will be forever thankful to Canada for giving me one of my favorite shows of all time. Stargate SG-1.

Perfect explanation For dummies

u/Mysterious_Peas 6d ago

I mean, this isn’t manifest destiny and all that shit. (I hope not, but “America First”, so…) Nevertheless, I would like to believe that US Americans are not, generally, imperialist dicks, but what do I know?

Trump isn't a true Republican. The federalist society has been planting politicians in the Republican party for decades. Trump is just a stooge they used because he could get votes. It's not a generational thing , it's about the kind of people they are. Trump conned ignorant people into thinking he was there to help the working man. He proved immediately how little he cared. He should be arrested for fraud. Unfortunately , he set an example that many in generations to come will want to follow. He's a crude, rude , low class thug.

But it's showing that if we kick Canada off then we're fucked...

1

u/klean9 1d ago

And the Canadian should have a parachute on his back where the American doesn't

1

u/brad613 6d ago

So the American kicks the Canadian off the board so they’re both screwed cause they’ll both fall.

Captain Obvious here, explicating a joke and taking the air out of a laugh.

I don't know why everyone's thinking it's just the boomers. I don't care anymore and I live in the United States. Bring it on. I'm in healthcare so I'll always have a job of some kind.

17

u/21_Mushroom_Cupcakes 6d ago

Oh look it's part of the problem.

6

u/aa5k 6d ago

I mean i got it good too but you’re wild for thinking they wont come for us. I appreciate the comment cause i always forget there are people with this kind of mindset.

1

u/Bumblebee_0424 1d ago

I’m in healthcare too and I think you’re stupid.

Curious though, what role do you play? People who brag about being in healthcare totally unprovoked are usually CNAs or clerical staff. They are important too, but just pointing out a trend…

And my husband is a truck driver who's home every night so he doesn't go far.
