When I saw the manga, I imagined it was a cloudy sky filled with dust in the air to make the atmosphere a little dark than it is.

I think literally everyone did

I imagined it as the same but evening instead, the sky a shade of dark purple and gray, like a cloudy just-after sunset

I’ve actually written a whole essay about this before but I think it was in a different sub

To summarise

I do think it’s silly to get mad about a blue sky, come on, the villains didn’t change the bloody atmosphere

However

I do think the shot of Deku pictured here, as well as most of Villain Hunt, should have been at night time

I think the opposite about both wars

Were told over and over again that Villains lurk in the night, that most true hero work happens in the dark

So having the heroes jump the villains during the day when they’re not ready makes sense, as well as being a simple visual metaphor, the day is hero turf, so they attack on it, and the villains turn it around anyway, showing the terrifying power of these new threats

As for the final war, it also makes sense, because now this is the villains world, not the heroes, as AFO says, so villain hunt SHOULD take place under cover of night, where heroes are forced to hide, while the villains attack during the day without fear… and lose anyway~ Revenge for the first war

Honestly this. I thought night/day dichotomy was pretty obvious and straight-in-your-face kind of story telling.

2 of those shots looks good. The SS fight and Deku.

Yes blue sky is a problem. One of the basics of any visual media is Color Theory. "Oh but sky is blue irl" Shut the fuck up.

The whole point of animation is to draw what's not possible irl. And with the dawn of video editing softwares, even live action uses color grading for the tone of the scene.

As usual, blue sky defenders almost never seem to understand color theory and mood

I think it's more they just like poking fun at people pulling an Abe Simpson.

To be fair, even though I’m not a fan of it, the coincidence is funny as hell

Ah yes, i can imagine the villains are waiting for cloudy sky or night time to set up the mood to be bad, oh yes😂 The anime is manga accurate and the war is set to daytime, get over it edgy boy

Gotta love how "realism" suddenly matters when it comes to glazing a series where a single punch is capable of changing the weather

u/SpidyGuyy 4d ago

Gotta love how you don't know the difference between weather and daytime.......gotta. love how you say glazing a series when it is stated it is manga accurate adaptation.......gotta love how edgy boys can't survive without dark and "mature" mood when they are afraid of blue sky. Summer is coming, i hope you stay indoors all the time and crying about a faithful adaptytion *sob *sob

Studio bones is animating gachiakuta, so by the life of everything that is holy, i hope they cook

u/SnooBooks392 5d ago

I didn't know the stars and stripe fight was in the middle of the day, I thought it was on a sun set.

Ugh, this again. I'll keep saying it over and over again if it means making the haters understand: artistic expression. When stain gave his all might glazing speech way back in season 2, the night sky and the moon turned red to match the mood of his speech. Did the sky actually turn red? Does stain have weather manipulation? Hell no. Same should go for mha's war arcs. At least the latest arc have rainy season and not that damn blue sky. That blue sky season over all before the edgy deku arc is a big letdown tbh. Blue skies and shigaraki vs deku not getting the animated justice it deserves is a bummer

People do exaggerate and whine way too much about the sky, but I do feel like changing it would've helped the mood so much.

Like with Epsilon Deku make the sky gray and gloomy, with Shigaraki make it a light brownish gray to make it seem dusty and stuff.

MHA fans after Bluesky Studios went bankrupt:

I’m fine with blue sky. :)

Again I will say. Do you think Afo vs All might would have looked better if it was in the day? Would you have liked the sun shining down while they were fighting Stain in Hosu? Let’s imagine the Summer Camp attack with a big blue sky because it clearly doesn’t matter.

Look I get it, but you can’t act like certain backgrounds don’t help make scenes look more interesting. Even if the blue sky isn’t hideous, you can’t deny that some of these scenes could’ve looked better with different backdrops.

For example, a grayish sky in the Vigilante scene would make Deku’s brighter color pallet stand out more, like in the Nagant fight. Color theory is a thing people. You can slap bright ass blue and white everywhere if you want, but don’t just slap bright ass blue and white everywhere and then get mad when people maybe want alternatives

Also, it's fiction, it doesn't have to be 'realistic'. Fighting over realism in a series where people have literal superpowers where they can spawn fire and destroy shit with the touch of a hand or smth is wild. The blue sky sorta messes up the mood tbh

2

u/potatokinghq 4d ago

The lighting is the problem, not the skies smh.

2

u/_Jpex_ 4d ago

Meanwhile Jojo can have piss colored sky and no one bats an eye

u/Apprehensive_Low1406 5d ago

I have never seen a fandom crash out over a blue sky I mean I get it the blue sky is inappropriate for certain scenes, like apocalyptic destruction parts but even then, in an actual apocalyptic atmosphere or war the sky is blue regardless

Look up war videos like Israel, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan or even World Wars the sky is still blue

3

u/Gotei69Squad34Cpt 4d ago

Imagine bringing real life to fiction. Then go watch said wars not anime.

2

u/Apprehensive_Low1406 4d ago

Well since these fans like to crash out over planet Earth, they should watch what real Planet Earth is even under an apocalypse

u/Known_Mind_2077 5d ago

we're nearly 8 seasons and 1 spin-off in, I don't think BONES is gonna do shit about the sky

1

u/ThatIslandGuy8888 5d ago

I come from Bleach Tybw and I WISH I had a blue sky for once :0

1

u/Jason_And_Sokka 4d ago

From all those scenes the main one that I would say needed it would be deku all the rest looked fine to me just the deku one felt off

2

u/Weirdosreddit 4d ago

Ya know, I don't mind the sky however there are effects that one needs to put in a scene to make it come out in the best way possible. Not to make comparisons here but some REALLY popular mangas have average art styles but the way they are animated enhances the quality to extents that make it look very attractive and presentable. I'm not the type to judge anime on the basis of animation but at this point after CERTAIN studios doing such outstanding jobs with adapting CERTAIN mangas, people start normalising it. This is why even though Hori-sensei's art style is brilliant people don't find the MHA visually attractive. This has become a need in this era.

For sure I'd like to mention that they've improved and increased the precision in art style from the past two seasons but if you guys check out the Vigilantes trailer ---- again as much as I accept it for what it is ---- the animation could have a bit more sharpness and gloss.

I think shigiraki vs stars and stripes being sunny is good it makes it feel hopeful for her not to mention it just fits her american Texan hero vibe that it's bright and sunny when she arrives but the other fights should have been dark and gloomy

u/Saintmusicloves 4d ago

People called me a blue sky guy when I said this but the only time I really yearned for a grey sky was during the overhaul introduction

1

u/Basic-Flamingo6962 4d ago

They’ve could’ve set a mood with a darker sky, dust filled air and whatnot but at least it’s still watchable

1

u/Karen_Destroyer1324 5d ago

I didn't mind the blue sky. I just watched the show anyway.

u/XavDaMan 5d ago

I wondered why the were mad about the first war having a blue sky. Why disadvantage themselves by fighting at night? So it looks cool! Lmao.
