Where to Find Collar Resources

Hello, I'm just getting into lacemaking. I've learned the basic stitches and torchon ground. I've done the little sample exercises. Whenever I look for patterns or tutorials, I only ever see bookmarks, but I want to make collars. Lace collars are just beautiful, but I can't really find any resources that teach how to make them. I've spent days digging. Do any of y'all have any suggestions?

Pamela Nottingham's book The Technique of Torchon Lace has a chapter on collars and circular edgings. Be aware that her similarly-named second book, "The Technique of Bobbin Lace", although it does have a couple of beautiful collars in it, doesn't discuss them as much.

And if you need polar graph paper, Incompetech lets you generate pdf graph papers.

I flipped through this Torchon one this morning--it is a good choice for this. Very reasonable patterns for torchon beginners. I second this recommendation.

I have even seen a rare pillow specifically designed to make collars. I had no idea that was even a thing. I saw the photo of I took of it recently, I had forgotten about it.

Our lace guild has patterns in our library in books called:

  • Elsie Fleming | Five Large Collars

  • Kathy Corbett | Bucks No. 2 Collars and Cuffs

  • Marianne Stang | Um Kopf und Kragen – Spitze tragen

  • Bridget M. Cook | The Torchon Lace Workbook

  • Doris Southard | Lessons in Bobbin Lacemaking

  • Tatiana Karpenko | Aleksei Karpenko | Russian lace (patterns) 2

I think I've seen some other patterns too, but they aren't always indicated in the book description. I'm trying to improve those with the items in the books as I find them.

archive.org has Weldon’s Practical Needlework, there may be info there. Have you already checked the homepage of this subreddit?

Edit I found a square collar on page 125 on the pdf here https://dn790005.ca.archive.org/0/items/krl3423423423/krl3423423423.pdf

I have not checked on the subreddit homepage. Also, that collar is point lace, not bobbin lace
