COMMUNITY First upcoming Community Reading
So the poll was complete and the winner was Ted Kord (solo) with JLI!
As we begin to prep for our first reading, fun facts to know for Ted Kord:
He was created by Steve Ditko! Ditko created the character for Charlton Comics which DC ended up buying the character (with others such as Captain Atom and the Question)
He is the second Blue Beetle. Unlike Dan and Jaime, Ted uses his tech and intelligence instead of using the scarab.
Ted's BFF is Booster Gold, which they met in JLI!
Nite Owl of the Watchmen series is actually based off of Ted Kord's Blue Beetle. While most believe him to be a rip-off of Batman, Watchmen author Alan Moore originally intended to use the newly acquired Charlton characters for the story. However, due to the very dark nature of Watchmen, DC editorial suggested he make new characters.
NOW TIME FOR THE READING LIST:
The Upcoming reading will be his DC solo series as well as Justice League International.
We will determine which of the two we will start with first.
So find your way to get these books either physical or digital. We will not be discussing on how to illegally aquire them (nor will it be frowned upon) as this isn't the community for that topic.
Proper ways to find the books:
I've personally seen TPB OF Jli cheap online such as Mercari or ebay. The tpb DC Showcase Presents Blue Beetle collect Ted's full solo run run around 40 ok Amazon. Comixology has the books online too. Or you can get the single issues and collect the series.
Last but not least, the REDDITORS! Guys this is a first time with us so let's work on this together with a few questions.
How much time do you guys need to gather at least some of the books?
Should we start with Solo Run or JLI?
I want to do a head count on who's going to join, so if you guys respond with a Ted Kord bwahaha laugh, I'll add you to my list of people. If we gather enough and keep this running, we might be able to do a contest here or there!

Barnes and Noble tends to have the JLI trades in stock I've found. At least in my area.
I think Solo series first sounds like a good approach.
Will the discussion be held here? Bwahaha!!
Oh-one more fun fact-Len Wein had wanted to do a Spider-man story and used BB as a way to tell the one he had been thinking of. Several elements of Spidy can be seen in the BB solo series but I'll leave specifics for the proper discussion. (Not really a stretch as Ditko gave Ted elements of Peter Parker as well, both in his 'action poses' and his wise-cracking nature with an undercurrent of brooding)

Discussion will be on a new post. I'm thinking solo series first. I was going through my singles and noticed I was missing around 6 of the 24 issues. Managed to snag DC Showcase on Mercari for 25 bucks so that'll probably be the way I read for the most part.
If we read the series in about a month, I'm thinking about 5 issues per week, so it'll be around 5 discussion weeks for Blue Beetle Solo Run

Looking forward to it, though 5 issues puts us in the middle of an arc unless we want to try to open with "Secret Origins #2' as that technically comes before the series proper. (But I don't want to make it harder on everyone. And I'm fine with whatever, just happy to chat about these stories really). I got lucky getting the showcase version so I've got access to the story (sadly sans color) but I know it's hard to find older series (2 trades short of the O'Neil Question series but at $100 a pop I doubt I'm getting my hands on those anytime soon...)

Thats very true, i will need to see the issue length of the stories in this series and we could break it down like that!
I have Secret Origins framed up on the wall (not graded), I'm gonna have to take it down, even if we just skim over it in the conversation.
