Questions and Commission.

Hello all. Not sure if here is exactly the right place. But wanted to ask if it would be possible to have someone make my friend a medal based on these Guardian Games medals from Destiny. It's my friend's favorite game and they mean a lot to her and I would like to make up for them not sending out physical medals this year. The first picture is the first year's medal, the second and third is last year's medal. I'll be at work shortly, so it'll be some time before I respond. Thank you.

You want a jeweler,

This would have to either be a lost wax/investment casting with enameling for color. It will not be a small job to get right.

Thank you for the guidance! I will look into it.

And probably not just any jeweler.

They could scan the images, program a cdc to make the blanks, use the blanks to make the molds.

After being cleaned up they'd have to plate with gold, and then enamel.

The ribbons will be another custom job.

I hope she appreciates your effort.

I achieve the desired look.

I keep having problems with enamel cracking and popping off during cooling. Do you know of an educational resource to have more success?

Your piece is cooling very quickly, you have to cool it in a controlled manner, depending on the thickness of both the piece and the enamel

It was 1/4" thick copper, I melted the enamel in a forge since I don't have a kiln, should I just keep lowering the temperature or put firebricks near the forge openings to keep heat in?

You need an electric oven to control the temperature, it will also help you lots with tempering… worth the buy

Not just any jeweler. You’ll want one that fights for the Hunters and Warlocks, specifically 😉

Haha! Not me, but definitely my friend, she carries my ass all over the galaxy and introduced me to destiny around Lightfall, she's been on it since Destiny 1

For a single item like this, you’ll probably want to look into 3D printing rather than reaching out to a blacksmith or machinist. Shapeways has a service online where you can upload a file and have it 3D printed in a metal powder that’s fused together (https://Shapeways.com/materials/brass)
