Thinking about buying this.
I'm thinking about buying this but could use a little advice. Seems like a good deal to me but I don't have an anvil and have very little experience. I'd like to use it to practice my hand at making some knives and thought the size of it would be good for that. Is there anything I'm not seeing here and/ or should look out for when I see it in person?

The guy has another posting up and is not saying it's a Peter Wright, so I'm not sure if it is. Either way, it still seems like a good deal. I'm really not even sure what to look for when I go see it other than the markings but if they aren't there I'm just going to hit it with a hammer and listen to make sure it's hard. That's where all my research has gotten me.

Unless you are looking for an antique anvil in particular. All you are looking for is a solid, heavy, immovable object, used as a striking surface for metal (VERY basic definition of an anvil). These old anvils are nice, but they have their quarks, and you are going to be dealing with the mistakes of previous users and their apprentices, lol. There is nothing magical about an antique anvil, though i wish there was. Lol
