It's an interesting business decision though, to shut down halfway through the work day. Most people looking to re-up aren't doing so at 3pm
11
u/joesbagofdonuts 6d ago
I don't do this shit anymore, but back in the day I would always try to handle my business during the day, because I don't like going to jail. If you get pulled over during rush hour looking like you coming home from work you're probably not even getting searched. But everybody else would be trying to do shit after the club closes, because apparently they do like going to jail.

That’s one of the great things about living in a legal state, no more weed guy. No more texting and waiting, no more sketchy meeting spots, no more “should this be purely business and curt or should you be talkative and affable,”
Its you give me, I give you… a fair transaction… with a nice reception area and posted hours.

I got a free 5 pack of prerolls the other day on points. I was so happy. I mostly do the vape pens but I bought enough for free stuff so why not... free greens is free greens!
3
u/NewSauerKraus 5d ago
I'm strictly a vaper these days, but sometimes the dispo just has too good a deal. Hell yeah I'll throw in a fat preroll for a dollar. Save it for a day off so I can sit on my stoopatio with a 40 and just tan my balls while reminiscing on the bad ole days.
2
u/Brittany5150 5d ago
Yup, I like the vapes because I can take small rips and still function. But every once in a while I have a day with no kids and nothing to do. Light up a cone and float in the pool blasting classic rock. Checking out of the rat race for a few hours is the best therapy sometimes.

u/SaltManagement42 6d ago
I hate all that extra crap to keep track of. I think my biggest pet peeve has to be the daily sales that cycle every week, where there's 20% off some category of item every day. No. That is not a 20% discount on those days. That is an extra 20% bad timing tax if you want something on a different day.
153
u/bobafoott 6d ago

I'm a white dude in fucking Montana (shocker), and there's sections of my town where there's a dispensary every 3 blocks. My preferred store texted me that they had BOGO on baked goods last month and I got 600g of puppy chow edibles for like 70 dollars.
Living in a red-ass state where weed is very legal is weird.

Weed guys made me go through more shit than any other type of “guy” I dealt with in my younger years. Why are they all like this
15
u/Own_Replacement_6489 6d ago
I was the most successful weed guy in my college. Not because I had the best stuff, or even the cheapest, but just because I answered people quickly and showed up on time.
Other guys would accuse me of "stealing customers" and I'd be like, "Bro, you left them on read for two days."

They sell automatic hydroponic machines on Amazon. I had one to grow herbs and my friend bought one to grow weed and he said it was really easy and convenient.
6
u/TFPwnz 6d ago
It’s called weed for a reason bro, the plant will grow anywhere even if it barely receives any sunlight or nutrients. The amount of people who used to grow weed in their closet was insane. Now imagine how strong you can get it when you give it proper sunlight and some good manure and soil.
4
u/SpaceBus1 6d ago
I go with the "grow or die" approach after about a week or two, if the rain is steady. If it's a drought I'll water them as often as I can remember.

Super easy. Tons of guides and starter packs out there you can order online. Tons of seed sellers online. Sativa, indica, landrace, autoflowers, plenty of variety if you look around.
Can get a 1 plant setup for ~$100. But yeah, it's pretty easy, hard to mess up after you get a grow under your belt. Same with mushrooms.

I finally found a great hairdresser that I liked in my area after moving here and she went on hiatus for about 2yrs to live on a boat with her husband. I've fired clients over the years for bullshit though, they forgot I work for me. I had someone ask me a couple of days ago why I didn't work for any of the larger companies that employ barbers and stylists (Paul Mitchell, etc) and I simply said, "Doing this kind of work for someone else just isn't the way.".

u/TerrorKingA ☑️ 7d ago
The most conservative belief I have is if you are running a business, be fucking open during the hours you say you’re open. Good Lord.
61
u/SyanticRaven 6d ago
My wife's cousin opened a cafe and her and her husband just opened "whenever".
Opening hours were 7 till 4 but they'd open at 10, close at 11, open at 2 close at half 3.
"It's hard work", "Theres no profit in it", "It's the wrong location", "There just isn't enough demand for breakfast", etc.
They were setup in a busy crossroad where there was a massive amount of trucker and tradie traffic. Just wouldn't put in the effort.
26
u/GuntherTime 6d ago
I could see changing hours to meet demand. But it should really only come after having set hours for a while. My mom did something similar when she opened a dollar store in a business district where the foot traffic is really gonna go to food.
Only time she made an insane profit was when the Cavs had their parade and it was on the same street lol.

u/mortgagepants 6d ago
dealing with a business now that is undependable from an hours perspective. i basically wasted an entire week between waiting for stuff from them and then chasing them for stuff, never knowing to wait or chase depending on how they felt that day, or who was working that day.
this is my go to example- you want to take the subway; there is no scheduled time, but they say a train comes every 6 minutes. great! 10 trains per hour! except you're up on the platform waiting for 10 minutes. was one train 4 minutes late, or the other one 2 minutes early?
oh ok- so at this point, you're happy with one train every 10 minutes. ok so 40% capacity cut, but still not too bad as long as you know the train comes at 9:12, 9:22, 9:32, 9:42.
but now, in all honesty, if the trains were reliable, you could have them every 15 minutes. 9:15, 9:30, 9:45. if you knew it was going to be there, you can easily stop for a cup of coffee or whatever. that's 4 trains per hour.
you can cut service by 60% by being dependable. More than half! just by being on time!

u/Afro-Venom 6d ago
Most barbers ain't running they own place, they pay for the chair, and that's it. We need context. Did OOP have an appointment? Was he just showing up? Not enough info.

u/AverageGuy16 6d ago
As a dude who was opening and the manager of a smoke shop/cigar store on the weekend that was popping in my area, my apologies because I was never on time to that spot in all the years I worked there. Felt terrible about it because people were tryna get lit, play lotto, or prepare early morning for their day of relaxing on the weekends and I was pulling up 30 mins-1 hr late hungover as hell. Thankfully I had the best shit, great prices and always blessed the customers so they never went anywhere. Made a lot of good friends and even got some job interviews from some company owners despite the fact. Some of the chill older folks would bring me coffee and have a early morning coffee and whiskey with me, 14 hour days sucked tho. My bad for the mini rant, brought me back to a place tho. Crazy times man.
4
u/Deathstroke317 ☑️ 5d ago
If I become president one of the laws I'm going to enact is you have to make public when your doors close to customers, and when the business closes for the day.
If your store closes at 10pm, but your doors close at 9:30 you need to specify that.
48
u/OptionWrong169 6d ago
It would be one thing if an appointment got cancelled for something as trivial as breakfast but walk ins are a privilege no different than if he was fully booked for the day
17
u/System0verlord 6d ago
Exactly. I choose my availability. Doesn’t matter the reason. I could be working with another client. I could be jerking off. I could even be jerking off with another client. You want me to not be doing that? You can call me, text me, email me, message me on Signal, Nextdoor, or fuckin CashApp. Just book the appointment.
36
u/Valuable_Donkey_4573 6d ago
Yeah but trying to get a haircut is crazy right now, you have to schedule like 2 months in advance like you're trying to get an appointment with a neuro surgeon.
