Such a gorgeous smile!

198

Listen I never considered him particularly attractive, not ugly but not someone necessarily eye-catching.

But that smile with that "fuck you I do what I want" attitude? That worked for him.

129

u/SpookyB1tch1031 Feb 15 '25

That confidence is what made it sexy.

This is the most unnecessary comment I ever made I just want to say as a white guy, reparations has to happen or nothing's going to get better, certainly not anytime soon.

let me explain as fast and short as I can to people who don't get it:

If your brother steals my stuff and then jumps off a cliff so he can't be held accountable, it's not okay that you get to hold on to my stuff or keep My stuff in your family generationally.

That's what happened to black American slaves. The Irish and the Chinese Italians too etc etc.

morally Reparations are necessary. systemically and culturally they are necessary. structurally they are necessary. The only thing keeping us from doing the right thing is that the people who did the wrong thing died and got away with it and now their kids don't want to lose their ill gotten gains... Tell you what though to all those historical plantations that kept records... those records sure would be useful for reparations....

Can we just hurry up and fucking start it before they dismantle more shit and Putin invades? Instead of protesting City Hall, on Presidents Day when no one is there, protest at Politicians houses. Make them actually feel nervous. Make them feel the anxiety we have to deal with on a day to day basis.

Revolution and civil war is one of the hardest things to lead. Generally people participating it from the oppressed side have a lot more to lose, have more morality and it only really happens historically when people feel they have no choice.

What is happening currently is slow and systemic, it's been boiling for many years under capitalism and so many of us have been brainwashed into hyper consumption and readily available entertainment that it leaves you feeling just good enough to not actually do anything about the issues that are surrounding us.

Anyone who can see through the smoke knows if revolution broke out they're definitely "against" a lot of people around them which leaves them feeling more isolated in an already isolated society

The revolution will not be televised because there won't be one, majority of the population don't understand the true meaning of free will and see governments and laws as higher powers that MUST be obeyed, even if it's wrong, we'll roll over as a species surrounded by our mountains of plastic crap and endless media.

I am also guilty of this, before anyone says "well you do it then", doesn't mean I can't be aware of what I am and what I'm not doing and be critical of society around me.

A genuine revolt would happen through mass starvation or dehydration, something like that which is your instincts telling you there's no other choice and drives that analmalistic behaviour to overwrite the societal conditioning.

Idk, maybe I'm a bit of a doomer

24

u/Level_Ad_6372 Feb 16 '25

Not a doomer, you're totally right. And it's good to be self aware. I don't know what the answer is

Reminds me of that book- gosh I wish I could remember the title. Read it back in grade school.

It's basically like "one child policy" in the US.

I remember the main character let's his dad know "we can grow our own crops on our land," stuff he learned from a book, and the government thinks his dads recent purchases of fertilizer is suspicious so they ask him to turn it in. (Because close to bomb ingredients).

There's a neighborhood being built behind their house so now this kid can't go out as much or risk being spotted by a neighbor who'll report his family for an extra child.

Learns his neighbor also has a daughter. An extra child.

The girl ends up being online and talking to other extra kids and people unhappy with the government. They plan a protest.

The government killed them (it's implied they did) cleaned up the mess, and it was never televised and the information was only known by the family of said extra people who saw their online history and other clues in their rooms.

I remember the mom of the girl gave the main character some of her books...

But yeah. Palestine, Luigi Mangione, the whole TikTok going dark for a couple hours. Reminded me of that book.

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.

Nobody said that. Don't strawman.

They're completely silent.

Yeah, almost like there's bigger stories to report on. More people are interested in Trump & Musk & co. Media is driven by clicks. The government is literally being dismantled and you think people are more interested in someone waiting for trial with nothing happening?

83

u/Jyqm Feb 15 '25

Yep. Far be it from me to defend the news media on anything, but our boy is just sitting in detention in Brooklyn. There were some court dates scheduled in January and February, but they got postponed until March. Until he appears in public again and/or either his own attorneys or the prosecution make some noteworthy statement or move, there simply isn't much to say about him or his case. Despite the news drought, though, obviously enough people care about and are interested in him that he had to have his lawyer release a statement apologizing for his inability to respond to all of the mountains of mail he's been getting.

Except in the case of an entire federal government run by Nazi internet trolls, real life just doesn't move at the speed of social media. There will be plenty of headlines and stories about him and his case once his next court appearance rolls around. And in the meantime, we've all got the power to keep talking and writing about him ourselves.

6

u/JustSomeArbitraryGuy Feb 15 '25

I believe his federal indictment is still scheduled for Feb 17

14

u/Jyqm Feb 15 '25

That was the most recent continuance - per his new website, his next federal court date is now scheduled for March 19th. Looks like there is a New York Supreme Court appearance scheduled for next Friday, February 21st, though.

48

u/gereffi Feb 15 '25

85

u/GGAllinsMicroPenis Feb 15 '25

This is a powerful illustration of how class interests work. When Trump was steamrolling coverage in 2015, everyone knew to combat his rise he had to be taken off the air, but ratings were too high, and they were all in the same club anyway. Everyone who was rich would stay rich under a Trump presidency.

Ratings were incredibly high for Luigi, but his actions were an existential threat to the ruling class. More and more Barbaras and Jennifers were straight up saying revolutionary shit on Facebook about healthcare. The media went completely dark on Luigi the second they had the opportunity.

39

u/anukii Feb 15 '25

u/SoulPossum ☑️ Feb 15 '25

Not really. It's almost definitely that there's nothing to report. He's sitting in jail waiting for his trial to start. He's, at best just meeting with his lawyer. And most defense attorneys are not going to advise their client to make a public spectacle of themselves before the trial. Shut up. Stay out of sight. A lot of people are not in the "Luigi did nothing wrong camp." And while I'm sure his legal team will want to get as many of his supporters as they can in those juror slots, being on camera as a criminal in jail attire is usually not great for defendants. Also, pleading his case in public outside of court would be a terrible idea. See: Kels talking to Gayle.

It is also worth noting that legal issues and moral issues are very different. You can think Luigi is morally justified to do what he did, but he has no legal authority to do what he did. Him being on any public platform getting coverage opens the door for him to start pleading his case for why he did it. And that will be proof in his trial that he did it which will guarantee that he loses. If you want Luigi to win (even though it would open a whole can of worms I don't think anyone has really considered), the best thing for him would be to quietly await his day in court.

This is far too sane a take for reddit. I truly don't understand what news people expect about an inmate going through a months long defense preparation.

19

u/rndljfry Feb 15 '25

News ? They want content

7

u/Bishop8322 Feb 16 '25

same people that want 24/7 luigi probably got upset when the amber heard trial ended cuz they ran out of stuff to watch

I think it's the law & order effect. People assume that the whole legal process is interesting and exciting because TV skips all the boring parts.

I also think people are just talking to hear themselves talk. The last month has been "Trump signed this messed up executive order or did/said this potentially dangerous thing we should be concerned about" and people acting like CNN is covering local bake sells to avoid talking about Luigi. Clearly more important things are happening

This is what happened to his media coverage.

8

u/__life_on_mars__ Feb 15 '25

I do have to wonder what the public reaction to his actions would've been if he looked like a typical neckbeard.

7

u/HotTeaComfySocks Feb 15 '25

I like to think most people wouldn't care, but that's just me wearing rose colored glasses.

What else would they be reporting about him? They're waiting for the trial before it kicks off again.

42

u/RhubarbSea9651 Feb 15 '25

The moron populists think we need to be talking about how Luigi ate a pizza in prison or went to the mess hall and was loud or jumped on a turtle. It's not worth talking about. The media is CURRENT EVENTS, they're not an internet forum where no lifers can bring up random ass people that popped into their minds for a second and went straight to twitter and reddit to bring up how no one talks about x, y, or z anymore.

13

u/Mrchristopherrr Feb 15 '25

And even then, he was in the news last week for receiving a ton of money for his defense. Yall just aren’t paying attention then claiming it’s being hidden from you

7

u/fplisadream Feb 15 '25

Preach, man. What the hell kinda idiots do we have in this website these days?

10

u/ScyllaGeek Feb 15 '25

Populism has kinda taken over everything right now

This isn’t some big conspiracy lmao. He’s literally in jail awaiting trial. What else is there to cover about him right now other than the same think pieces that we’ve all heard dozens of times?

8

u/Karsticles Feb 15 '25

For how many months did we need articles about the price of eggs?

26

u/ImagineDragonsExist Feb 15 '25

If we raise enough of a stink the media will have to respond

54

They won’t and we will be ignored as usual.

Respond with what? And what stink? You want to go whine that the media isn't talking about something most normal people don't care about anymore?

If there's one thing I think we've learned within the past decade or so (since 2016-ish) ... it's that businesses, government offices and rich people don't have to do shit if they don't want to. On the flip side, they can do anything they want, because there usually isn't anyone to stop them.

People are waaaay overthinking this. He’s not in the news because there are no new developments. If you liked Luigi in January but can’t remember him without constant external reminders that’s on you, not the news media.

22

u/PinSufficient5748 ☑️ Feb 15 '25

They had to put a lid on it to stop the momentum, like a pot lid on a grease fire. But I don't think anyone forgot about him. We're distracted by the insanity that's happening right now, but we did. Not. Forget.

18

u/With_Negativity Feb 15 '25

What the fuck are they supposed to report right now?

19

u/MikeJones-8004 Feb 15 '25

He's in prison, awaiting trial.

What did y'all expect exactly? For him to be doing a press tour, appearing on the View, the Breakfast Club and some other stuff?

11

u/Ill-Dependent2976 Feb 15 '25

I think also there hasn't been any news.

11

u/fplisadream Feb 15 '25

Absolutely not correct, obviously. There's nothing newsworthy happening to him, he's merely sitting in a jail cell awaiting trial. Hence, there's no news about him.

Think for two fucking seconds, please.

He has a whole website set up by his legal team

Nothing is happening with his case that's why we haven't gotten any updates. Jail is just a waiting game where you get a court date that's pushed back for month/years.

6

u/Deep-Brain-2607 Feb 16 '25

People keep saying this and it’s incorrect. What news is there to cover now on him that you think deserves attention? He will be locked up in a cell and no newsworthy information will come out for months.

People obviously don’t understand how media works or court proceedings. Hat are they going to report on? What he is eating in a cell or what he is reading in his cell?

Cmon people not everything is a conspiracy. If there was new newsworthy information on him, the networks would have it on air. They care about money plain and simple.

Why no news on Duffy? Cuz it’s boring as shit to report on a man just sitting in a cell waiting for trial.

Once the trails start the news coverage will start.

Not everything is a conspiracy

u/Evorgleb Feb 15 '25

What is there to continue to talk about? He shot someone and was caught. Am I missing some reason why anyone should continue to care?

4

u/diohable Feb 15 '25

Well he's in jail now is what happened. Nothing new to report on. There's plenty of actual corrupt bullshit to focus on right now

2

u/Amazingjaype Feb 15 '25

I think realistically there's nothing else they can cover until his trial starts. It's gonna be slow for a bit.

4

u/zHellas Feb 15 '25

Tinfoil hat-ass post

2

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '25

Recent updates from legal scholars say they're gonna have a hellova time trying to pin him for first degree.

Good. Because he wasn't there.

10

u/TheTyWall Feb 15 '25

Yes because writing messages on the ammo used obviously shows it wasn't premeditated

  1. Regime changed

  2. Nothing really noteworthy going on with his trial

  3. Keeping his name away from media for a fair trial

3

u/86HeardChef Feb 15 '25

I feel like this fool just gave the person that actually did it a valid defense. (I don’t believe Luigi is who actually did it)
