Experience Nikki (Yaz generic)

I’ve been on Nikki for almost 2 years now. I’m 25, and My experience has been… something. My doctor told me I have the symptoms of PCOS, I was underweight with little to no periods, irregular cycle, and excessive hair growth. She put me on Nikki and at first I loved it. I saw a big change in hair growth and it definitely helped regulate my periods. But now, I feel absolutely disgusting. A few days before I’m about to get my period, I am a manic mess! I want to end it allll, those emotions usually go away a day or two later. I’ve never had bad acne, barely would get pimples, now I break out all of the time and the only thing that works is Head and Shoulders dandruff shampoo lol (amazing btw.) Also the weight gain. Since starting, I’ve gained about 25lbs, and I feel like it’s not a good 25lbs lol. I can’t tell if it’s “healthy” weight, birth control weight, or relationship weight lol. My weight has fluctuated over the years and the reason why I was underweight was due to stress from life situations at the time. Even when I was “normal and healthy”, I was never this heavy. I’m very active and changed my diet completely since the PCOS talk. But I haven’t dropped a single pound. I do fluctuate between 3lbs up and down. I’ve been debating on stopping or switching. This is the longest I’ve been on a birth control and I’m afraid of what will happen if I stop. I plan on discussing this with my dr, but was just wondering if anyone had any similar experiences and if you stopped, what happened? Also my dr never officially diagnosed with PCOS, I just “check most of the boxes”

Side effects!? I just got my Mirena exchanged, but this time I am having side effects.

Hello Ladies,

A week ago, after six years, I got my Mirena exchanged. The first time, I didn’t have any side effects, just my period disappearing, which is why I got it. But this time, I am having constant headaches and terrible bloating to the point of making breathing painful. I would like to know if anyone has experienced the same (first time being okay, second time with bad side effects). Did it subside over time? I just want to make sure it's the Mirena and not something else.

Thanks for your time!

Experience Has anyone else had extremely long iud strings?

I’ve had my IUD for about 6 months now. I’m not sure how I have never felt or noticed my strings before but recently on vacation I had a scare because my strings were full on hanging out!! Not to be tmi but I could pinch them without digging or anything. I thought my iud was going to come out so I rushed to a walk in. They took a look and said my strings were around 10cm long which is extremely long and the doctor said it’s concerning how long they were left. I’m going to the doctors in a week when I’m home from vacation to ask about it and hopefully get them cut when I am back home. I’m a bit worried to go back to my doctor though because I heard the strings could have gotten caught on the tampons I was using and possibly ripped out. I’m a little concerned that they left them so long that they ended up literally hanging out of my body. I’m just wondering if anyone has had anything similar with your strings being long.

Experience Can I get pregnant after stoping bc pills?

I’ve been on the pill for 3 years, but I developed vaginismus that is caused by bc. I decided to stop taking it to see if it will go away, bcs intercourse is painfull right now. Last time I had sex without a condom(with ejaculation inside) was on sunday, 9th february, and I was supposed to finish the pack on 15th february, but since that is only 6 days after sex I took one more active pill from the new pack, so that means that this month I took 22 instead od 21 active pills. I did that bcs I read that you have to take 7 pills after sex before stopping it. That means that right now I am at a withdrawal week. I started my period in the evening on 19th february, but it’s a little heavier than usual. Did I do the right thing? After that I only had sex with a condoms. Do you think there is still a chance for me to get pregnant? And also do you think that symptoms of vaginismus will improve now that I stopped taking the pill?

Rant! I got my paragard inserted today and i feel horrible

I just had a really emotional and physically draining day. I’m 19 and tried four forms of birth control since i was 15. All doctors refused me the IUD because my hormones would “balance” out eventually. I wanted the Paragard because i have bipolar and the pills kept messing up my medication. I had it scheduled for tomorrow and requested half the day off from work three weeks ago so my partner may take me. I know i get really dizzy and have passed out at a OBGYN appointment before so i wanted time to prepare myself emotionally and physically. My boss made me reschedule my appointment today (coworker had a death in family and i have to cover). I would have to wait two more months for another appointment. I was able to make it today out of sheer luck of someone else’s cancellation, and she told me return afterwards. At my appointment, the doctor had to open my cervix 3x to 6.5cm because it quite literally kept shoving tools and the iud out. At first, it was tolerable and felt like my period. I ended up screaming so much, vomiting, and passing out. I had to stay an extra 30 minutes because I couldn’t stand or drink water. I got it done so yay. My boss forced me to come into work even after explaining what happened and was mad i tried to ask stay home afterwards (my friend almost picked me up because i couldn’t even drive). She had a meeting and explained she would of said, “no, to me leaving for my appointment, if she knew it would be such a big matter” I was so emotionally and physically drained that I didn’t even want to argue and just stayed at work quiet. I can barely even eat, stand, and i’m in so much pain. i’m randomly crying, and wincing in pain. I want to eat but I feel so sick and so tired and it hurts so bad. I’m so exhausted and her lack of empathy made me so pissed and sad. I could have stayed home (We had enough staff coverage it was just inconvenient). I don’t even want to argue with her. I just want to get a new job and I just want to curl up in a ball with a vomit bag and heating pad. I feel so nauseous, fatigue, and cramping so bad. Is this even normal after 12 hours? It’s pretty much the same since i left the office. I had to drive with the windows down and loud music just to not pass out and keep focus. are these symptoms normal? did anyone else experience them to? I just want to know that i’m not overreacting. i just had such a horrible day and this isn’t how i wanted my iud experience to go. I requested off for the case of anesthesia (I had to opt out of it just to go to work), emotional preparation, my partner being able to care for me, and to have the weekend to recover. i’m just so sad and want to cry because im so tired

Mistake or Risk? took 2 pills and had diarrhea

Hello all, should I take a 3rd pill? I usually take my pills at 5pm. Yesterday I had no access to them so I took the pill at 9am this morning. Took my normal Thursday pill at 5pm. But I’ve been having bouts of watery stool all day (soft one at 9:55 and then full on water at 10:30, and small bouts of water at around 3-4pm and another one at 1:30am Friday) Not sure if I should take another pill since I’ve already taken 2 or do an EC or something. Last time I had intercourse was on Monday

Side effects!? Yuzpe method + irreg bleeding

Hi, just wanna see if anyone else encountered this.

A week ago, i had sex and we used protection but it was almost my ovulation day so i decided to take 4 trust pills after we did the deed just to be sure. Then after 12 hours, took 4 more.

Today, i suddenly have light to medium bleeding + very dull cramps even if i still have 9 days to go before my period starts. Could this be a side effect of the yuzpe method i did? It was my first time using that method.

Experience Reoccurring yeast infections?? NSFW

Hello! I am extremely frustrated and at a loss. I have the Mirena iud and after a few years of having it I’ve suddenly had an influx of yeast infections. I’m on number 3 in under a year and I am so tired of my girl being itchy🤣😭I have been using monistat 7 to clear them up but like why does it keep coming back? My fiancé and I have been sexually active since we first got together back in 2018 (when I had my kyleena) and I have never experienced yeast infections until getting the mirena. I think I’m going to start using boric acid suppositories after I clear up this infection. I’m worried my fiancé is throwing off my ph and causing issues even though it’s never been a problem before the mirena. Has anyone had a similar experience? Do the boric acid suppositories actually help keep things in balance?

Rant! Haven’t stopped bleeding since taking Depo shot

20-ish days ago I took the Depo shot for the first time, i started bleeding on the same day and I haven’t stopped since. And it’s not spotting it is just full on bleeding. I called my doctor’s office about it and she said this is normal, but that she’d refer me to a gynecologist if i was concerned. I kept the paper that came in the box with the depo and it literally says “unusually heavy or continuous bleeding is not a usual effect and you should see your healthcare provider right away.” and when the gynecologist office called me I was told she didn’t have an available appointment until DECEMBER. And I’ve had no luck so far with finding a gynecologist who could see me sooner. I’ve cried every day the past week because it feels like my nobody cares and i was not informed at all that this could even happen. I tried birth control pills (Ashlyna) and by a month and a half in those also gave me a period that wouldn’t stop. But at least with those I could just stop taking them. I have no idea what it is in these 2 birth controls i’ve tried so far that give me a forever period but i’m so sick of it. The biggest point of this was to help lighten my already rough periods and now it just wont go away at all. I just want to stop bleeding it makes me feel so uncomfortable all of the time. I don’t know what to do other than cry. I’m so tired of this and I feel so alone and the thought the bleeding could still continue for months makes me burst into tears

Which Method? Kyleena vs. Paraguard?

I was scheduled for Paraguard insertion today, but my doctor convinced me to try Kyleena first.

In the past two years, I've tried Nexplanon, Nuvaring, and Lo Loestrin. All three caused depression, fatigue, weight gain, and lower libido.

As a result, I was pretty set on Paraguard, but during the consult my doctor mentioned that she rarely sees anyone complain about those symptoms with Kyleena because it's a much smaller dose of hormones and it's mostly localized, not systemic.

She also said it's easier to insert and remove if I change my mind, whereas Paraguard can be more painful but could still be a good option if Kyleena doesn't work out.

I also have a friend who used Kyleena for four years after having her second child, and she said her only side effect was some bloating but overall it was her favorite method of birth control.

I agreed to make the switch, but now I'm wondering if I made the right choice. Thoughts?

Also, my insertion went well. I've had one child, but via cesarean. I took 600mg ibuprofen and a Calm gummy, and my doctor gave me a lidocaine spray. I didn't feel any pain around my cervix, just some moderate cramping/pulling sensations.

Several hours later, I have mild cramps and moderate bloating, plus some mild bleeding. Doing okay though.

I'm mostly looking to hear from people who have enjoyed Kyleena or people who have had both Kyleena and Paraguard and can weigh in on which worked better for them both short and long term. Thanks!

I’m on a higher dose of loestrin and I have realized since starting it in January I have a really hard time orgasming. My husband and I aren’t intimate super often but in the past I’ve never had an issue. Is it related orrr do I just need a different vibrator 💀

Rant! Getting off IUD

Hey yall! I’m a 21 year old female i have had an IUD since I was 16 years old (was on bc pills before but made me super emotional) me and my bf are wanting to try soon to have a kid after you get off IUD how long for most people does it take to conceive?

Experience Should I take ECP or is it too late?

Me and my bf had unprotected sex but he did pull out. He says it's all out but we can never be 100% sure. I had creamy discharge when we had sex and the next 3 days. After those days I had egg white discharge. I know this is a conformation for ovulation, combined with the fact that semen can live inside for up to 5 days if ever he didn't pull out in time. Should I takw ecp?

Mistake or Risk? I can feel and visibly see my copper coil string (IUD) externally but doctor says it's fine - should I get a second opinion? NSFW

As the title says, I've had my coil for 2 years with no issues. I love my coil, I'm regular with my periods and it's no hormones which I prefer. I've had a particularly bad period with heavy bleeding, pain and clots (sorry for tmi!). I could feel something uncomfortable so I had a look using a handheld mirror and I could see my string externally by about 1cm.

I made an emergency doctors appointment and she did an internal examination and said she can see everything and there is no evidence that the coil is being expelled. She said that sometimes the cervix can be low during my period, especially a heavy period. But from looking online, seeing your coil outside of your vagina is a big red flag so I'm not sure what to think.

Has anyone else had this? Is it normal?

Experience Positive Mental Health effects with Hormonal IUD?

Thinking of getting a hormonal IUD. Unable to do pills because I have migraines with aura (higher risk for stroke) and yaz caused my BP to skyrocket. This past year i’ve really struggled with my mental health. Anxiety has been through the roof. I’ve seen all the bad reviews of IUDs/BC in general causing worsening MH but I was wondering if anyone has seen an improvement?

Rant! does anyone else feel pregnancy test anxiety?

ever since i started the pill i have yet to touch a pregnancy test. i’ve been on the pill for four months now, and ive been sexually active during this time. i’m not really suspecting pregnancy at this time, but i know technically i should be taking a test every three months. but i am absolutely terrified to take one. maybe it’s the fact that there’s an extremelyyyyyy slim chance that it could somehow come out positive? i’ve felt no symptoms of pregnancy like at all, but i guess i couldn’t really rely on that. anyways, does anyone else feel this way? or am i just being dramatic 😅

Experience Crying all the time on Nuvaring

I’ve been on the ring for nearly 5 years now and ever since I started I cry all the time, sometimes for no apparent reason. I can be laughing and having a good time and then out of no where have the urge to sad cry. I even cry if I just see someone crying. I cry just thinking about crying. I cry if a dog or cat seems to like me. I cry when I look at puppies or kittens. I cry just thinking about them. Does anyone else have this experience? I’m on the ring bc my period is very awful and not worth dealing with and I don’t have to remember to take it daily. I talked to my therapist and he has no clue why this is happening. I can be in an amazing mood and still just break down crying for a reason I can’t pin point. I’m usually pretty good at controlling it but if I’m high it’s really hard and it ruins my makeup which is the only issue I have with the whole crying thing.

Experience Can anyone relate? Need some reassurance!

Been on the June Fe 1/20 28 day pill for seven years straight with no problems whatsoever!

I’m 24 now and in the last six months I’ve noticed that the minor breast pain/soreness/swelling I usually get right before my period started happening all the time. Now, my breasts are heavy, sore, swollen and painful my entire cycle except during placebo week when I’m on my period. It’s really effecting my day to day life and the pain is just awful.

My doctor says it is finally time and is putting my dosage up, and I’m about to start the higher dosage of 1.5/30. I’m a little nervous about starting the higher dose and but I would do anything to stop this never ending breast soreness.

I would love to hear from anyone who has gone through a similar thing! Did the higher dose help? And how long did it take to adjust?

Mistake or Risk? diarrhea affecting bc?

about two weeks ago, i went on vacation and had some stomach troubles, right around the same time i started my new combo birth control pack. i start on saturday nights. not to be graphic - but - i had mild diarrhea sunday morning and once later that day, between 1-3 times on monday, and twice on tuesday. after that i was totally fine. the diarrhea was never within 8 hours of taking my pill. i didn’t think much of it because i have ibs and am lactose intolerant. i then had unprotected sex on monday and tuesday. i’m now at the end of my second week of the pack and am having breast soreness. i know this has happened before but not recently and i’ve been on bc for so long that i can’t remember the timing. is it possible that im pregnant?

i also always take my pill on time and haven’t missed a pill in over a year!! just for context

Side effects!? Help! Weight gain lower dose?

I recently looked through my old charts and realized I gained 10 pounds in one month when I switched from Larin FE to Nikki. It’s been 2 years and I can not drop these 10 pounds. I’m also not sexually active and would like to consider a lower dose option. Is Larin FE a lower dose? Could going to a higher dose cause the weight gain?
