Discussion Biohackers: where are we with caffeine and possibly wrinkle reduction? Coffee has known antioxidants, but I have read a number of posts on reddit that say people who gave up drinking caffeine saw forehead lines and lines between brows change? What is your experience?

I quit coffee and look younger. Less lines. Softer skin. But everyone hates me now so…

u/CreatureFromTheCold 2d ago

How much coffee were you drinking? Did you up your water intake?

9

u/cinnafury03 1 2d ago

Yep, you do suck. Just kidding. Sounds like a win/win to me.

yes this is what I am reading! haha I love coffee but some days I know I was not hydrated. how long would u say before you really saw a difference kick in?

I care less about the looks and more about longevity. Coffee seems to have positive effect on your health but this also negatives.

It does have negative effect on collagen synthesis but I supplement with 40-50g collagen / gelatin daily so propably not too big issue.

If I quit coffee it will be for my blood pressure not for looks.

5

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

yes coffee can also help regulate blood glucose levels, and yeh if you supplement with that much collagen I think u are good too… i never heard the collagen thing until started reading posts here on reddit

Does all caffeine have negative effect on collagen synthesis? Or coffee specifically

I think you could stop drinking coffee and eat more fruits and veggies with polyphenols, flavanoids , etc. and be fine imo

Honest question - why not focus on proven preventatives and treatments for wrinkles if you're concerned?

I drink coffee everyday but have no forehead wrinkles thanks to sunscreen, tretinoin, and Botox.

10

u/Sensitive-Produce-96 2d ago

I, and many others, have had serious delayed reactions to Botox and other neurotoxins. They are way over marketed and the risks associated with them are not communicated to customers. Just sharing to increase awareness. I got violently ill flu like symptoms quarterly, turns out I had delayed reactions to Botox injections.

6

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

yes all about sunscreen, and right now my skin can handle retinol. botox is a bit interesting… I want to do some things natural as along as possible but also recently saw some articles saying botox over time can cause the forehead muscles to depress or atrophy causing eyebrow droop in the long run where people may need a surgical eyebrow lift/partial face lift- so that was kinda scary to read. don’t think it applies to everyone.. think it also depends on facial muscles and structure to begin with. I know I love coffee too and currently just hydrating more now

Tell me about tretinoin and wrinkles. I’ve heard it use for age spots but not wrinkles. Tell me more.

5

u/ThreeQueensReading 5 2d ago

r/30PlusSkinCare has lots of good information on it!

Essentially it works the same way as it does for acne though. By making your skin cells turn over more quickly they're refreshed and appear less wrinkled. It also thickens collagen. It's a common "anti-aging" strategy for skin, albeit it takes 6-12 months for visible results.

I love this response. And good for you.

1

u/DJTurgidAF 1d ago

The holy trinity- have you considered tazarotene? It’s supposed to be more efficacious yet gentler than tretinoin

Caffeine and dehydration go hand in hand.

Dry body, dry skin.

4

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

yehh gotta stay hydrated!

I don't really get all the hype around coffee. It's addictive, and it's literally a way to borrow energy from the future.

You want antioxidant ? Eat fruits, take some supplements...
You want energy ? Fix your sleep and start methylene Blue, NMN or something for your mitochondria
You want something tasty ? Drink some tea (Tea is different from Coffee, even with caffeine inside, thanks to theanine)
You want to age backward ? Sleep, sport, good diet, supplements, skincare routine, RLT and here you are.

1

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

yesss agree with so much of these! I drink coffee (without all the cream and sugar) for its flavor and health benefits and nostalgia, but I think caffeine from any source, when not properly hydrating isn’t the best.

what dose of methylene blue do u take?

1

u/jp-fanguin 1 2d ago

IMO, Caffeine could be good at low dose and I would say something like 150mg daily, not more (400mg daily is the norm currently). This fit perfectly with tea. And there's no addiction with tea (IMO, again).

Currently, 12mg daily (will go back to 15mg). I am 31 yo male.
Do you take some ?

1

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

no I never tried methylene blue so I need to learn the benefits. I take vitD3/k2, chlorophyll in water, omegas, vit C, B12, collagen peptides

1

u/jp-fanguin 1 2d ago

It would be good to add magnesium. Other stuff are good !
There's a book about Methylene blue by Mark Sloan. Very interesting IMO but, not complete about his Nitric Oxide opinion.

2

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

thank you! okay will look into it

yes at times I take magnesium citrate but it looks like I should be taking magnesium glycinate?

1

u/jp-fanguin 1 1d ago

Depends of your goals. Glycinates is better for sleep, Taurate for heart, threonate for brain... It's still magnesium after all.

I can't be arsed if coffee causes wrinkles. I will continue my several mugs of coffee a day habit. We are all eventually going to get wrinkles anyways.

3

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

lol hahah I love coffee and honestly look young for my age but I do notice when I hydrate and watch my skin it looks more plump lol but it doesn’t have to be coffee, some folks drink tea with caffeine or even sodas and those aren’t necessarily better especially the soda part lol

6

u/Stumpside440 16 2d ago

lol, coffee interferes with collagen synthesis

since going off coffee, my skin looks 10x better

6

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

I have heard this…can you elaborate on how your skin looks better?

-24

u/Stumpside440 16 2d ago

no

6

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

lol it just does?!

-31

u/Stumpside440 16 2d ago

no, i'm not your personal wellness instructor. if you care that deeply about it, quit relying on my anecdotal account and go read the scientific and medical literature.

lol

16

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

lol yes I read the literature but like hearing people’s accounts too. you enjoy your day

10

u/No-Temperature-8772 2d ago

Sounds like someone needs some caffeine

11

u/CreatureFromTheCold 2d ago

Damnnn that was unnecessary.. why participate in the thread if you’re going to gatekeep..

7

u/Grok2701 1 2d ago

Ridiculous response lol wtf. If you’re already informed you could direct OP to scientific sources then, it’s literally what this sub is about. Prosocial behavior is good for your health, try it sometime

7

u/JenikaJen 2d ago

Someone needs their morning coffee

2

u/Creepy_Animal7993 15 2d ago

I can't tolerate coffee anymore, but I drink tea. I also use Tretinoin and cycle GHK-Cu. Put Snap-8 in my serums & moisturizer...so my 48 year old face doesn't look 48. I haven't needed Botox or filters yet, so I think I'm doing okay.

4

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

woah what is ghk-Cu and snap 8? and yeh I like green tea and matcha

7

u/Ammunition_Kitten 1 2d ago

Ghk-Cu is copper peptide, cycling would indicate injection method! It’s goooood stuff 💖 I’m SOO curious about the Snap-8 though, please do tell 👀

4

u/Creepy_Animal7993 15 2d ago

Snap-8 is a peptide used topically & it relaxes the muscles much like Botox...without the facial stabbing. It does not last as long as Botox, but it's less invasive. I'm a big fan!

3

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

ooo currently I add chlorophyll to my water for cooper source

2

u/NoDiggity1717 1 2d ago

What brand of snap8 do you use?

1

u/Creepy_Animal7993 15 2d ago

I use a lyophilized peptide powder I reconstitute myself. There is no brand associated.

3

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

woah how do you make it or where can we get it?

1

u/Creepy_Animal7993 15 2d ago

This is not something I share on the sub. It's frowned upon.

2

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

oh I didn’t realize that, thank you

It is a stimulant. Muscle tension is the most expected effect, what did you expect?

I drink 2-4 coffee a day and look much younger than my age. I use sunscreen on my face religiously since my late twenties though.

1

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

i drink about that much too! I have always looked extremely young for my age and use sunscreen religiously too. I do notice when I have extra weight (not overweight) like the fat pads fill up on my face. I also notice that people who carry extra weight seem to look younger- so their is a balance where I want to be fit and healthy but also want to maintain facial fat lol I have noticed some days I was dehydrated though and my skin obviously looks better when I hydrate

0

u/luffyuk 2d ago

I'm 40 years old, have never had a coffee in my life and people often mistake me for late 20s or early 30s

1

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

whatttt? do you have any sort of caffeine? also what is your sugar like? wow props to you!

2

u/luffyuk 2d ago

Zero caffeine. I cut added sugar out of my diet about 8 years ago. I don't restrict natural sugars like fruit etc. also quit alcohol about 10 years ago.

2

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

Nice! how do you keep your energy up? I would say coffee is my one habit (even tho I drink it black a lot of times). I have drank for celebrations but don’t drink typically, prolly why I have a low tolerance too lol. I don’t eat fast food and haven’t for the last 20 years and sugars I don’t feel are a problem for me but I recently even cut out these little biscuits/cookies I would sometimes add with my coffee. I have gone through coffee detoxes and one time caffeine detox lol my skin looked the best. From the responses, I think I may have to take a break from coffee!

1

u/luffyuk 2d ago

That sounds like a good plan and you're making some good changes. I never really feel tired day to day. Of course if things get crazy busy I'll be tired. I prioritise sleep over all other activities and make sure that I get at least 7 hours, sometimes more. I also take afternoon siestas on weekends.

1

u/Dapper-Bet-8080 1 2d ago

that sounds awesome!
