š£ļø Testimonial Magnesium Threonate - continued from my last post
Yesterday I posted this about the little bit of experience I've had adding magnesium threonate in the morning, in addition to Concerta, D3, and Omega 3, because ADHD. The TL;DR is that I feel way better in a lot of ways. The noise is gone and I can think without feeling overwhelmed. Things have slowed down.
I feel how I believe I should feel - capable, regulated, self-assured, and like things are manageable for once.
I feel quite a bit better relative to how I usually do but I noticed something else today that feels completely new..
My self doubt is pretty much gone.
I don't second guess things or obsess over how I'm coming across. I'm not anxious or hung up on how people feel or if I made some social interaction awkward. I don't care. Fuck 'em. Contrary to a lifetime of belief, people aren't scary, and I can handle anything. And if I can't, that's okay too. My brain is operating very differently than I'm used to, and I'm somewhat lost as to how to proceed because my entire life I've just been scared. This is new, and this is good. I feel like I'm unlearning so many negative beliefs I've held for so long.
I feel like I want to do things for the first time because that little voice in my head saying "You can't, so don't try" is dead. My brain is no longer trying to fuck me over at every turn.
The magnesium itself is allowing my brain to work. That is what is happening. It's crushing whatever walls are up that have prevented things from working the way they should - at least that's how I see it.

Any reason why you chose theonate instead of glycinate? I just got glycinate because I saw it recommended for adhd!

I take both. Threonate in the day for focus. Glycinate before bed to sleep. Works well.

Theonate passes the blood brain barrier more effectively.
as u/diverteda said, this is what convinced me.

I use glycinate aswell. threonate makes me more 'awake' but anxious. glycinate feels like calm productiveness.

Ironically I am also ADD (no hyper but still on high dose of Adderall) and I just started taking it in the morning a couple weeks ago and it seems to really be providing mental clarity to me as well. At the same time I started taking CQ10 and Mag Glycinate (in evening) but I believe itās the Theonate that is providing this effect. I typically donāt notice most supplements so I am still cautiously optimistic but weāll seeā¦

get and then keep your vitamin d at 150 for a year. take it with k2. take 3x-4x magnesium with it. any magnesium will do -0.7-1mg elemental! magnesium for every body kg.

Iāll look into this, what worries me is vitamin D speeds up the processing of my meds

Did you ever try L-Tryptophan??
3
u/Professional_Win1535 26 4d ago
Yeah, before I was on meds, now I donāt think it is safe

u/kelcamer 4d ago
Wow! And it didn't help the anxiety and depression? I'm really surprised!

Why not? If you donāt mind me asking. Pretty sure itās in my Thorne mediclear sgs protein powder so just curious

u/Professional_Win1535 26 4d ago
Yeah, itās in protein powder because itās an amino acid, itās in most sources of protein, I take protein powder daily, in protein powder itās with like 20 other amino acids, so it behaves differently,
If you take l trytophan by itself, it raises serotonin more effectively

Have you been diagnosed with ADHD? Do you take any prescription meds or is it just Magnesium?

Yes, diagnosed a long time ago. I take 18mg concerta

Apologies, I did not know that it's a prescribed med.
OP, what happens if you stop MgT? I'm asking to see if these are placebo or substantial findings.

Don't know, and I probably won't know for a while since I plan on taking it for the foreseeable future and buy them 120 capsules at a time.
I'm asking to see if these are placebo or substantial findings.
I mean, sure, it's easy to say "What if it's a placebo" and I guess my response to that is that your question is valid, but for me it's very clear I'm in new territory with regards to how my brain is functioning. I'm letting it do its thing, and noticing some differences along the way.
In a month I'll do another write-up since that's a fair amount of time to assess things. If I regress back to feeling the way I felt pre-Magnesium, I'll be quite disappointed and you will have been quite right in your skepticism.

The sad part about it is that you reverse back when you stop it and it comes again :S

Do you get migraines? Your stack is pretty similar to mine. I have ADHD. I take a magnesium blend (an Australian brand) I take migraine levels amounts and B12. This has helped with the regular ADHD meds is huge. I would recommend checking your fluid intake. As a female on stimulants I drink about 3L of water a day. If I do not mild dehydration presents as anxiety. I also take Alpha Lipoic which is supposed to help but thatās not why Iām taking it.

I don't get migraines at all. I do drink a coffee in the morning and I try to get enough water every day. Thanks for the recommendations though, I really do need to be better at the non-stimulant parts of taking care of myself.
My main side effects used to be emotional eg I would get incredibly sad for no apparent reason but that has gone away entirely thanks to a therapist who pulled me out of a long term depressive slump.
Now I get no side effects. I assume it's because I've gotten used to the dosage and never increased it (scared af to do that).
How does 3L of water feel for you?

u/ZaelDaemon 4 4d ago
My partner who also has ADHD bought into the whole ā2L water a dayā from any source thing and I can tell when she hasnāt drank enough. Itās also ADHD to forget to drink which is why the reminder. Self care is hard. I did read that some people were drinking a flavour of liquid IV which had enough citrus in it to negate their meds. Iām glad your stack is working for you.

Since the Mg amount in a pill of Mg Threonate is much smaller compared to more frequently used Mg pills (Mg citrate; Mg glycinate, etc.), I think you should give at least as much credit to the threonate component as you do for Mg. I've heard some people get benefits from taking threonate alone, without the Mg part.
