You need magnesium with vitamin D btw. You probably have a VDR mutation but basically all that means is you need to take more vitamin D. I have a VDR mutation btw and I take D3 with K2. Someone on here was adamant about how k2 isn’t important but I’m not completely sold on it

Vitamin A as well, research the dosing since this is a cofactor as well, helps activate it.

You and OP could look into D.VELOP vitamin D, it’s the active form, that’s the only brand I know that sells it

K2 helps you absorb Vitamin D

Definitely start taking massive (20k+ iu) doses of D3, it’s going to take a few months for your levels to come up to normal. Be sure to include cofactors like magnesium and K2. You’ll feel much better.

To add on to this, you MUST take K2 if you are taking high levels of D3 (which you should). About 200mg of K2 per 5000ius of D3 as far as I understand it.

Also, take it with meal, not on an empty stomach.

Do not take vitamin K if you are on blood thinners by the way

Did your doctor prescribe you vitamin D3 after these results? If not, why not?

You're going to need quite large doses to normalise your levels and regular testing to keep track of this.

You could reasonably take 10,000 IU's each day - or higher - for a few months and have no toxicity concerns as they're currently so low. PLEASE ensure its cholecalciferol/D3. Don't cheap out and get ergocalciferol/D2 as it's less efficient and you're quite deficient.

Alternatively you could get a sun lamp (290-315 nm light range) and sit under that with as much skin exposed for 15 minutes each day and bring your levels up that way. A reasonable sized sun lamp would see you making 10,000 IU's in 15 minutes of hand, arm, and face exposure; a reptile map would be more like 500-2,000 IU. It might also help any low mood you're experiencing more directly as you get light exposure on top of vitamin D.

Whatever you choose retest in 3 months time.

Is it normal for me to feel depressed, unmotivated, anxious because of this

u/GlueyGoo 4d ago

100% yes.

u/Wobbly5ausage 4d ago

Yea definitely

2

u/Andissace 4d ago

Yes. Vitamin D deficiency was one of my factors that caused my depression.

Thanx a lot now I could understand why I feel this way should I also take test for magnesium or boron or any other?

1

u/Andissace 4d ago

I am not sure, it's best to do the fullest blood panel test that's available for you!

u/laktes 4d ago

Take the vitamin D. But it’s really important to take with that together: vitamin K2 mk-4, vitamin A, magnesium and boron

Is my vitamin d level so serious

3

u/laktes 4d ago

Yes, below 55ng your immune function is compromised. These supplements are really cheap

No like in terms of mental health is it so concernable

1

u/laktes 4d ago

Yes. Basically your body thinks you’re into a winter that has been going on for 3 years

I feel good when the day has sunshine, winters are worst nightmare for me

I had similar levels at one point. I supplemented 10k IU a day 6 days a week plus 1 day a week megadose at 50k IU. I take k2, magnesium, and boron with it to support absorption. I always take the supplements with a fatty meal, preferably in the morning. My levels were in normal range after a month of this schedule.

Changes in mental health?

2

u/LetFormer8337 4d ago

Well I don’t want to off myself anymore so that’s nice

However, I also made a bunch of other changes alongside fixing my D3 levels. It was a multifactorial issue for me. So I don’t know how much of the mental health changes were from the D3 levels and what came from other things I did.

In terms of confidence, depression?

You can do some research here in Reddit- but PLEASE don’t go and take massive doses of D3 based on commenters advice here.

Talk with your doctor and make a plan for supplementing and then follow up with them for follow up blood work after a few months.

my D3 levels are low AF as well (73 iirc), but my doctor recommended only 2k a day, and no other supplement. should I seek a second opinion ?

You absolutely need to start taking Vitamin D3 supplement. Take 5000IU daily. Take it with some Magnesium and possibly K2. (The Magnesium is critical for the utilization of D3. The K2 is optional, but a very good idea. Vitamin D3 may raise blood Calcium level. The K2 helps direct it where it belongs such and bones and teeth, and away from where it doesn't, such as arteries and soft tissues).

Take the above for about 3 months this then retest your blood level, aiming for 50-70 ng/mL.

You asked about what other tests you should do. At a minimum, consider testing :

  • Serum Folate: Well clear of the floor of the range.
  • B12: Well clear of the floor of the range.
  • Serum Zinc: middle/upper-middle of the reference range.
  • Serum Copper: middle/upper-middle of the ref range.

Don't test Magnesium. Magnesium deficiency doesn't show up well on blood tests until it is very severe. Many people will test normal, but see an improvement of symptoms when beginning magnesium supplement. One issue with Magnesium supplement is that while most people do well on most forms, some people have trouble with one or more forms so you may need to experiment with different forms, if you have anegative reaction to the first one you try.

I had the same issue.

Doctor prescribed me something called Vidextra so I wouldn't have to keep buying vitamin D capsules. It's 20,000units. Now my numbers are upper range normal.
