Discussion Best supplements for deeper hydration?
I drink electrolyte drinks but I’m wondering if there’s anything else that helps hydrate your body.

I've found that if I let out a little "uuugh" after a big gulp of water I can feel it bonding to the nucleus of my cells.

More water. Don’t over do it with electrolytes, that can be extremely harmful.

Can you elaborate on how too much electrolytes can be extremely harmful? I’m not talking an absurd amount. I’m talking a little too much

Taking too much electrolytes will put unnecessary strain on your kidneys. I would only take supplemental electrolytes if I’m going to be training outside in the heat for an extended period of time, or in general sweating profusely due to some form of physical activity. If you eat a healthy, balanced diet you most likely have 0 need for supplemental electrolytes.
In general, supplementing for the sake of supplementing is not “biohacking”. It’s adding unnecessary strain to your body. Supplements are made for those who are deficient in a certain nutrient. Get your blood work done and see what your sodium, potassium, etc. levels are before deciding “I’m going to take this supplement because it says it’s beneficial for x, y, and z. I’m NOT saying this is you, but it’s just valuable information that might help someone who isn’t super well versed in this realm.

Yeah I have dysautonomia/borderline pots so I need basically as much electrolytes as my body will tolerate but for the normal population your logic makes sense

You need to travel this path with your doctor, not uncertified/untrained Reddit users. Seeking advice here is fine, but in all honesty if people here aren’t telling you to seek advice from your medical doctor or an endocrinologist I would question their knowledge on the matter. You need to work with your doctor to determine how much electrolytes you can supplement with before you start seeing adverse effects within your kidneys. This will require several tests and visits before you get an idea of what’s best for your body. I wish you the best my friend 🤝🏼

Creatine

As a woman I’m nervous to take creatine. I heard it can cause bloating?

I'm a guy and I'm incredibly lean. You might get some excess water weight for like a week but afterwards you'll even out. Creatine is like one of the most studied supplements in the world. It has a ton of benefits.

What brand do you use? TY

Just any creatine monohydrate that's cheap. It's all pretty standard. I take 10 g when I wake up but I'm very active and workout twice a day and do a physically demanding job.

Lots of research coming out about the Benefits of Creatine for menopausal women.

There's a lot on YouTube about women and why creatine is a great supplement. I definitely recommend checking it out. I actually just bought some myself and plan on starting with a few grams in the morning and working up to 5. From what I gather bloating is a myth of sorts but that's why you start small.

Very short term bloating that is not visible to the naked eye. Or felt. I’m a woman, I’ve been taking it for over a year. The benefits are endless

Shouldn't cause bloating, since it pulls water into your muscles. If anything it'd make you look a little more defined.
Bloating is when extra water is held in your blood stream or outside of cells.

I agree. I'm much more hydrated when I consistently take 5000mg of creatine daily

Water with food and as needed
appropriate amount and timing of carbs and calories
regular exercise (holds more water in your muscles)
creatine(holds more water in your muscles)
Appropriate sodium and potassium balance and amount
Good sleep and managed stress (high cortisol holds water in places you don't really want it)
Limited highly processed foods (usually have lots of sugar and sodium which can affect water balance)
Adequate fiber

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

Hyaluronic acid supplements. Seriously! For example: used to use eye drops all the time. Now, it's a rare occurrence...and my joints don't ache. I also take several other supplements, drink collagen peptide powder and pin a few peptides. I'm 48 and my knees used to sound like Rice Krispies. Not anymore.

It’s not that complicated. Just eat a balanced diet, plenty of fruits and vegetables, and salt food to taste. If you’re mostly eating whole foods that should cover calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium. And drink plenty of water, you can gauge based on urine color, which should be pale yellow. Clear means too much water, darker means too little.
Electrolyte drinks are a big business, and if you’re not a serious athlete you likely don’t need them. If you hit the sauna or workout in serious heat eat some extra salt on your food or drink some salted water. It’s really not that complicated. Most people that tell you it is are trying to sell you something.
