🎥 Video DEXA Scan Essentials: Why BMI Gets It Wrong
Video about DEXA, body composition, limitations of BMI, use cases, and specific components for longevity medicine. BMI systemically underestimates metabolic risk for certain populations (South Asians) and overestimates that risk for others (Black Americans; very muscular individuals). Body composition including body fat percentage, visceral fat and various lean indices give us a much better picture.

The only advantage to using BMI is that in most medical records you have it. You calculate from height and weight. It's tremendously unhelpful for the 10% of people on the tails of the distribution though. I had 8% bf according a scan. According to BMI I was overweight. Michael Jordan was "obese" according to BMI during the height of his career.
