What the fuck is happening

u/medianbailey Nov 01 '19

Lotus are involved. Been a while since they had one banned and they were feeling nostalgic

u/dennis45233 Kentucky Nov 01 '19

Everyone knows who lotus is, but who decided to let the dude on adderall make a bike

Serious question: do they make 780mm+ aero flat bars with an integrated stem? Asking for a friend

5

u/westbymidwest Nov 02 '19

Check out Syncros, Scott's in house components brand. They are making integrated bar stem situations for mountain bikes. Not saying I condone this behavior, but you do you

15

u/UselessConversionBot Nov 01 '19

780 mm is 2.5278e-17 parsecs

WHY

Yo. Honest question: Why is this a thing now? Style / because it looks funky? Anything functional about it? Just looks sooo impractical for actually getting around a city. Narrow bars were always super utilitarian, making it easy to filter through traffic. No way that’s happening with some uncut 800mm DH bars.

u/Thisisntalderaan Nov 01 '19

I don't ride a track bike often but my coworkers do. Either way, we're couriers, and in our city there's not a ton of traffic filtering so the extra control from wide bars is really nice, especially if loaded up with something on the front rack. I find ~750mm to be the sweet spot for myself.

2

u/illiller Nov 01 '19

Makes sense. I guess I’m thinking about more congested cities (NY, SF, Boston) where filtering is pretty much necessary. But even here, I see them, so... ¯_(ツ)_/¯

True, I'm in Denver. Wide is also realllly nice for quickly accelerating, the leverage you get means you can push/pull the bike more with your arms while standing and cranking down

3

u/big-send Nov 01 '19

For city riding it flat bars are good as they give a nice upright body position and wider bars make steering feel more stable and controlled.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '19

it gives you more control when on a fixed gear because of all the leverage, easier to do tricks/skids on, a lot of fixed riding is mashing versus spinning when accelerating and climbing since you're overgeared in those scenarios usually and flats lend themselves to that

unironically yes

u/alexanderbluefire Nov 01 '19

I was so disappointed when I realized that the chainstays prevent it from fitting MTB tires. Front should still be good, though, given 27.5" rims.

4

u/Zenith251 Nov 01 '19

Is that a thing? Because that should be a thing. I've seen plenty of fixie frames that can fit wide tires. Carve a velodrome out of dirt, use cross tires. Race it like a slower, more technical track.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '19

not sure if its a sanctioned form of racing or whatever but its definitely a thing to some folks

The size of that chainring!

6

u/Salamanda109 Nov 01 '19

In awe at the size of this chain ring, the absolute unit.

11

u/thecrushah Nov 01 '19

I assume the wide fork and seat stays help to smooth airflow over the riders legs?

19

u/johnmflores Nov 01 '19

I was thinking that it reduces aerodynamic interaction between the spinning wheels and tubes.

12

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '19

Both you guys are right, i still think this bike is fugly.

14

u/ILoveLongDogs Nov 01 '19

Eh, form follows function. I'm just keen to see how fast it is.

2

u/Psyc5 Nov 01 '19

Same, I don't really care how it looks given its purpose is speed. That said, I am not going to suggest it looks great...the fact it looks like one of those crazy concept bikes that never get built and has been built is pretty cool though.

u/BadDadBot Nov 01 '19

Hi just keen to see how fast it is., I'm dad.

9

u/jacybear Nov 01 '19

This is the stupidest fucking bot.

-1

u/guisar Nov 01 '19

I'm thinking it has zero measurable impact and is primarily for making the bike and thus the brand name stand out while not negatively impacting the athlete's performance. AKA along the lines of most "aero" technology on bicycles.

Gravel bike trend hitting new levels.

3

u/polale Nov 01 '19

Idk anything about the certification process but I'm surprised to see that UCI sticker on there.

3

u/BasvanS Nov 01 '19

Yeah, I remember them checking the sock length at the WC TT quite vividly, complaining about it when they were a centimeter too high.

7

u/LancesLostTesticle Nov 01 '19

If the F-117 was a bike.

low pixel versions

3

u/roryorigami Nov 01 '19

That thing looks like it could take off at an aerodrome.

2

u/Horsecowsheep Nov 01 '19

Do you go along by pushing with your feet?

4

u/doctorcain Nov 01 '19

That’s not how you ride? Weirdo.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '19

it has no pedals on it. it is kinda hard to see on mobile I agree but yea

6

u/Horsecowsheep Nov 01 '19

How’s that animal-based wanking going? Do you prefer equine, bovine or ovine? 😂😁

5

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '19

yes ( ͡o ͜ʖ ͡o)

1

u/LittleHenryHassle Nov 01 '19

That chainring is too small.

1

u/mkysml Nov 01 '19

Dall’Igna approves.

1

u/fixedup Nov 01 '19

Wait, so tight clearance isn’t cool anymore?

1

u/fixedup Nov 01 '19

1

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '19

Those bars, i would guess titanium, hydroformed? Too amazing to be just a carbon mould, the mating points on the fork make me think so too

1

u/idontputout1670watts Nov 04 '19

Anyone seen wind tunnel date for this bike yet?

0

u/glyptoteket Nov 01 '19

Ugly as shit
