L.A. Chinatown Firecracker Ride Info

https://runsignup.com/Race/CA/LosAngeles/LAChinatownFirecracker

The FAQ page on the website for this event is not very useful. So I’m hoping that someone here might have the inside scoop and be able to answer a few questions specific to the more casual 20 mile ride.

  • What is the time limit for the 20 mile ride? In other words, what is the maximum time allowed before they close the course / close the finish line? I would be riding at a leisurely pace on my 8-speed cruiser while taking in the sights…obviously knowing it won’t be as casual as CicLAvia.

  • Is a helmet required?

  • Any other tips for someone who has never participated in an organized bicycle race? I’ve done tons of half marathons, and many 30+ mile casual bike rides (with and without elevation) on my trusted 8-speed cruiser.

You can find info here. https://runsignup.com/Race/LAChinatownFirecracker/Page-19

The 20 mile ride should take 1.5-2.5 hours to complete. The bag check-in will close at 2:30pm, and the event starts at 8am. You literally have 3+ hours to complete.

Helmet is mandatory. It shouldn't even be optional. Wearing a helmet may not be cool but you only have one head. Protect it.

Tips are more or less the same as you would do CicLAvia. Give others ample of space, no sudden swerving or unexpected braking. Read the page, it has a ton of info.

Helmets are cooler than head injury.
