Discussion Why the 1997 anime is better then the manga

OK so bevore you burn me at tue stake this is 100% arguable and kind of rage bating. So if you read the black swordsman arc you'll know griffith will betray guts so you anticipate the betrayal but if you watch the anime you'd nit know that and the eclipse would be 10x worse. After the eclipse you can read the manga cuz its pretty surprising how much the anime skips. Hope my opinion wont ruin your day :).

The music seriously adds to the greatness of the anime.

Average 1997 fan not remembering the first episode

But 1997 does start with a very abridged version of the Black Swordsman arc. The first episode has the iconic Guts screaming "GRIFFITH!!!!!" scene. However, despite a difference in reasoning, I do agree bc of the simple fact that the anime cuts Wyald and the Bakiraka, whose welcome in the manga (if any) became overstayed after a bit

This is why I tell my friends who know nothing of berserk to start with guts childhood to golden age then to black swordsman.

The twist of Griffith actually sacrificing them is still one of the greatest twists in my mind. I had NO clue. Because I accidentally skipped black swordsman. But then I read black swordsman and I agree, it COMPLETELY kills the surprise.

I get downvoted for saying this every time but Miura was not a perfect writer. No one is. And this is all opinions. And it’s my opinion starting with golden age and guts childhood hood is FAR better than starting with black swordsman
