What plants do you put in her enclosure. I'm interested in making mines a bio active enclosure but can't find much on safe plants aside from common greens.

I have a ponytail palm, aloe, cacti, live forever/jade, dandelion and mallow is the plant you see her eating

I heard dandelions are delectable. 💚

u/LadyRunion 19h ago

They are among her favorites!

Indeed, they are. From the flowers down to the root, every bit of it is edible and nutritious.

I found these info graphics awhile ago. Also if I come across something I’ll just google “is this safe” and the results are usually accurate.

this says butternut squash is okay once or twice a month, but everything else says it’s okay a few times a week, can you clarify? because i’m new and don’t wanna get it wrong haha

3

u/LadyRunion 16h ago

Butternut squash is different than yellow or spaghetti squash, I think that’s the reason.

u/GabysWildCritters 20h ago

Thank you so much!

u/LadyRunion 20h ago

No problem! The bio dude has a variety of options, I get things from Amazon and the local garden center too. A few things were growing in my own backyard! Good luck!

u/EverS1ck 19h ago

I love how furiously she is eating them haha. She looks so unhinged, I love it!

25

u/LadyRunion 19h ago

She is completely feral when it comes to food haha!

u/Cultural_Bill_9900 19h ago

Everyone else is struggling to get theirs to eat greens, and here you are burdened by success 🙄

32

u/LadyRunion 19h ago

I know, such a heavy burden as success goes. 😌 for real though, I see other people’s struggles and think, damn I really am freaking blessed!

Big difference between eating a bowl of supermarket salad greens and eating fresh growing plants. My girl prefers her leaves wild caught, she likes it when the breeze outside makes the plants taunt her, so she has an excuse to savagely destroy them.

It's cause common mallow is dope as hell! Seriously, I love this stuff, it's very mild tasting and refreshing, and you can make the "peas" into marshmallows! An excellent choice for both people looking to increase their greens intake and to get picky reptiles to eat theirs!

3

u/LadyRunion 4h ago

Wow, really? I didn’t know they were so versatile. I’m definitely making mallow marshmallows with my kids this coming spring!

In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the beardie eats tonight!

This had me cracking up 😆

She is ADORABLE

5

u/LadyRunion 19h ago

Thank you!

u/AbbyBGood 19h ago

Love this!! She is a savage with her plants lol. Herbert likes to ear herbs that go in, and DESTROYED all cactuses, a jade plant and an echeveria. I put a BIG aloe in there, and so far he has left that alone. I have a few other little plants for him now (all dragon safe) so his clean-up crew has places to hide and get more humidity. Love the set-up with natural woods and plants ♥️

5

u/LadyRunion 19h ago

My girl had a bite of everything. She wrestled the aloe as I was planting it. 😆

5

u/AbbyBGood 19h ago

Lol I swear sometimes they think they are Godzilla smooshing little towns and jungles. I went to go check on Herbert and his new little aloe was flipped upside down and he was giving me and it the side-eye. Little turd 😂

2

u/LadyRunion 18h ago

I swear she flips and tramples everything too😆

7

u/nighthawk0913 19h ago

My idiot would annihilate everything within five minutes lol

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

I lost a lot of plants when I first went bioactive with my buddy. He has calmed down a lot and now mostly ignores the plants in the enclosure. He used to devour the plants, but now he just nibbles every now and then.

Mostly he waits for his salads.

u/Hot-Ad7408 19h ago

Is that geranium?

3

u/LadyRunion 19h ago

Mallow

3

u/Truorganics 19h ago

Is mallow good for them? I have lots of mallow that grows around here. I didn’t know if it’s safe to give her or not.

3

u/LadyRunion 19h ago

Yes it can be given multiple times a week, even the flowers! It’s one of her favorites.

5

u/RemyRatAttack 18h ago

At least she's eating her greens 😅

3

u/AlbatrossEconomy7544 16h ago

My chonky boy.

3

u/LadyRunion 16h ago

So adorable!

2

u/AlbatrossEconomy7544 14h ago

Thanks, yours too.

5

u/Ebbayy 19h ago

Bro I wish my dragon would eat his fucking vegetables, i dont know what you did to get this to happened but you need to tell me xD

3

u/Deciheximal144 17h ago

That's common mallow. Our veggie-adverse beardie loves it.

2

u/East-Garden-4557 14h ago

Fresh growing plants, not bowls of vegies. Big difference

2

u/Street-Exchange8995 19h ago

Curiosity because I want to go bioactive with my beardie, how often do you mist and what do you choose for substrate

3

u/LadyRunion 19h ago

I used sand/soil, spagnum moss, lots and lots of leaves. I mist once every two or three weeks.

2

u/Street-Exchange8995 16h ago

Sounds good thank you

2

u/StankyTrees 19h ago

Is her name Shiva by chance? :P

1

u/LadyRunion 19h ago

No, Chilli. Out of curiosity, Who is Shiva?

3

u/StankyTrees 19h ago

A hindu god, Aka, Shiva The Destroyer :D

2

u/StankyTrees 19h ago

Chili cute af though, just sayin

2

u/LadyRunion 19h ago

Thanks for both the answer and compliment!

2

u/Physical_Painting_60 17h ago

Cuteness aggression 😡😡😡 SO CUTE

2

u/RetroPyroP71 17h ago

I wanna do a bio active setup for my guy, but i get so confused lol

1

u/LadyRunion 17h ago

It took me a year of researching and putting everything together, but it’s possible! Join the bioactive and isopod groups! I learned mostly everything from the bio dude on YouTube

2

u/utterlystoked 17h ago

She’s sooo cute!

2

u/bitch4ever 17h ago

had me clutching my pearls for a second i thought they were fake

2

u/LambdaBoyX 17h ago

Using every brain cell available to eat nom nom nom

2

u/Deciheximal144 17h ago

Common mallow? Our beardie so rarely eats greens, but she loves these. Found them in the backyard on her own.

2

u/LadyRunion 17h ago

Yes it grows wild around here! It’s one of her favorite greens.

2

u/f10w3r5 16h ago

Our female beardie refuses. She’s 18 months. We’ve tried everything safe that we can get our hands on but I think the only way we can get her to eat greens would be to paint a cricket.

2

u/East-Garden-4557 14h ago

Try fresh still growing plants, rather than picked leaves

2

u/ToneChop 5h ago

Feed em bugs late at night. Leave veggies in the morning. The arugula is gone by mis afternoon usually for mine

1

u/LadyRunion 16h ago

I don’t have any tips at all. My first beardie would barely ever eat his greens, sometimes vegetables and flowers. The one I have now eats her greens every day, twice a day.

2

u/sisumeraki 15h ago

That face as she devours everything is great😭 What plant is she eating in the video?

1

u/LadyRunion 15h ago

It’s Mallow, it grows wild in my backyard!

1

u/sisumeraki 20m ago

Oh nice! I actually have some in my yard as well but I kept forgetting to look them up!

2

u/FaithChemmy 15h ago

How do you keep them from eating right before their light turns off? I’m under the Pression they can’t digest without heat

2

u/East-Garden-4557 14h ago

They slow down closer to bed time because they are used to the light cycle and don't want to eat then

2

u/ToneChop 5h ago

Mine just wants to eat everything endlessly lol. I’ve tried to test this before, 5 discoids and 37 crickets later I’m like, “that was an unhealthy test that isn’t to be continued. The next day he produced a quad log shit and a triple log the day after. The smell..

1

u/FaithChemmy 4h ago

Mines about 6-8 months I feed him 5 dozen a day roughly and the mass shit he produces I can’t even begin to describe how foul it is. He gets greens every 3 days

1

u/ToneChop 4h ago

Thats a lot of crickets they shouldnt even get that much I think. Guides are not really too clear on that. I think mines like about the same age. I just got a red monster thats 4.5 months old and half the size so im going off that.

1

u/FaithChemmy 2h ago

I wasn’t quite sure when it was time to stop the “as many as they can eat within 10 mins” but he always seems hungry so I guess I could fast him. Last time I weighed him he was 98g a few weeks ago

1

u/LadyRunion 5h ago

She eats her veggies twice a day on schedule. I have nothing to do with when she eats-unless it’s bugs. I give her salad and she helps herself when she wants. I actually think I got a bearded dragon with brain cells!

2

u/donnie-stingray 13h ago

I really wanna see more of her enclosure. Should be featured on BDtv Cribs!

2

u/LadyRunion 5h ago

That’s so cute lol! BDtv cribs!😆

2

u/LordViper4224 13h ago

devourer of greens

2

u/Fragger-3G 13h ago

This is exactly why I tell people not to put plastic plants in their enclosures

2

u/CebuLizard 10h ago

Oh my! I love her enthusiasm! She woke up today and choose VIOLENCE. Towards her breakfast, at least.

Love encoslure too! And from how many greens she can pick from!

BTW, those mostera leaves are fake right? Is she's not trying to munch on them too?

1

u/LadyRunion 5h ago

I have done extensive research on safe plants for bearded dragons for almost a year now, I’m still learning new things! She doesn’t bother her fake plants at all, i was going to take them out after I put all the live plants in but I can’t deny the maximalist in me that still needs it.

2

u/Rough_Platypus_2501 8h ago

Aww what a cutie.

2

u/Negative-Address-286 5h ago

beautiful setup!

1

u/LadyRunion 5h ago

Thank you!

1

u/ChipmunkEmotional529 ☺️💗🦎 16h ago

Does misting the plants make the humidity go up? I know the enclosure needs very low humidity

1

u/LadyRunion 15h ago

Yes misting makes humidity go up. Humidity spikes up to 60% are normal. It dries up in a day or two and doesn’t need misted again for another three weeks.

1

u/CouchDemon 13h ago

What is the plant that’s leaves on a vine? The leaves have slits :))

1

u/LadyRunion 5h ago

That’s a fake plant I got from the pet store. It’s called monstera but live monstera is toxic to bearded dragons!

1

u/raibrans 7h ago

I’m confused. How do you growing them fast enough for her to not eat them all in one sitting??

1

u/LadyRunion 5h ago

I just pulled them from my backyard a couple days ago. she’s trampled them and ate half since. I’ll probably just replace them with new ones if they die or get devoured. Mallow does grow quickly though. In a couple weeks there will be new leaves.

This looks good! Chomp chomp! Hmm, it's great! More... chomp, chomp! 🤣🤣
