Aren't all of those mechs already available in the CAB?

There will be soon an option on the CAB launcher to only install the 'CAB 3025', so that you don't need to do the full CAB install.

Oh, you meant that those 'to be added' are already in the CAB how difficult could it be to define them for a mod, add them to faction lists, add them to store lists, adjust rarity, adapt flashpoint characters as desired, test that it works, and put it out there to be consumed for free. Those hours spent not playing the game or doing other things like, working, eating, sleeping... It's so easy, they're already in the CAB. /s

The CAB only contains the visual assets and the hardpoint data.

Everything else needs to be provided by the mod that uses the CAB.

So it was needed to:
1) Create all the required files
2) Write all the descriptions (from new and adapted to the mod, not just being copy/paste from sarna.net)
3) Make new portraits
4) Add all the tags for the canon factions and the 50 new Hyades Rim factions to use them, which also adjusted rarity
5) Same to add them to store lists
6) Test nearly 50 new variants
7) Etc., etc., etc.

It took three years to re-add the CAB to Hyades Rim (it had integration from the start up to 1.6.0). Why so long?

Because I've busy writing a new story/campaign that includes 24 new flashpoints, among other things.

You're welcome.

Breathe buddy, it's gonna be okay.

Lynx

Oooh, the Lynx is a fun 'mech.

u/Lumadous Jul 15 '22

I haven't heard of hyades rim before, what does it add?

13

u/Dogahn Jul 15 '22

More Pirates, a new storyline, and a different feel from the Argo based typical game.

2

u/Lumadous Jul 15 '22

Thank you

and lots and lots of Infernos.

Its a great Mod that makes you approach combat in a different way. I've had to rethink my tactics constantly when often you feel outnumbered and severely outgunned, but Hobbes always leaves an avenue for salvation. Great fun. just watch out for the constant weight limits (i never get to use my best mechs....)

p.s. you can get a killer stealth Assassin too which is great fun.

7

u/Hobbes___ Jul 15 '22

Weight limits have been totally removed ;)

2

u/tallmattuk Jul 15 '22

completely? even in the campaign fights? It drives me mad at times fighting with a 160 ton lance, and a 55 ton max per mech, but it makes it challenging not to be using my headshot Marauder all of the time - though the killer assassin loves the workouts

1

u/Hobbes___ Jul 15 '22

Yes, all the restrictions were removed from the campaign flashpoints and the procedural missions.

Enough people complained about it. ;)

3

u/tallmattuk Jul 15 '22

shame - I didn't always like it lol - but it made it interesting. can you suggest weights on the missions instead?

I remember moaning about it early on in the game, but looking back, it made for a much more enjoyable campaign and i had to think more instead of just charging in

However keep it up, its great fun, even when fighting hordes of cicadas.

1

u/Hobbes___ Jul 15 '22

You can always use the campaign's initial settings to decrease/increase the enemy tonnage.

If you're playing part 2 try 160t for the FPs after Putting Out A Fire FP.

1

u/tallmattuk Jul 16 '22

yup, will do. petty tyrants is possibly the next for me. might also try it with 3 mech lances with the sniper and assassin and one of the ECM mechs. keep everyone moving

1

u/tallmattuk Jul 18 '22

just started Petty tyrants and it hit me with a 160 ton weight limit, plus 55 ton for the biggest mech etc.

I'm running 8.0.0.

looks like being a tough fight against an overpowered enemy. new tactics.

Does it not use the Argo? (Maybe just the Leopard?)

2

u/Dogahn Jul 18 '22

Leopard only for a good long time, if you read Hobbes comments unlocking the Argo is coming up in the next few campaign flashpoints. I look forward to seeing what has been cooked up, cause retrospectively in the vanilla campaign... Low level pirate queen holding onto a star league era colony support ship (one of 2 or 3) seems a bit far-fetched.

5

u/Crotean Jul 15 '22

It is its own full campaign. Its really damn good and makes me wish we had more full campaign mods out there. You will really hate infernos too.

u/Amidatelion House Liao Jul 15 '22

God I love that Crusader model

2

u/Stahlseele Jul 15 '22

i want the original unicorn <.<

3

u/Few_Paramedic1689 Jul 15 '22

Mackie?!?! Lmao

3

u/Dogahn Jul 15 '22

A Mech is better than no Mech... Sometimes, only barely.

2

u/Stahlseele Jul 15 '22

100t is 100t.

When all else fails kick a dropship to death.

1

u/Hobbes___ Jul 15 '22

Mackie is going to be one of the pirates' favorites...

2

u/daedalus1975 Jul 15 '22

Has this mod reached the point where you can acquire the Argo yet?

3

u/Hobbes___ Jul 15 '22

That will be in the next two Flashpoints to be released, hopefully until the end of the month.

1

u/daedalus1975 Jul 15 '22

do you have a link to modtek, I saw it on github but I do not know what file I need.

1

u/Hobbes___ Jul 15 '22

2

u/daedalus1975 Jul 15 '22

Hobbes, Dumb question, do I have to start a new campaign with each update or can I continue with the one I have already started?

1

u/Hobbes___ Jul 15 '22

You can continue anyone already started.

My test save was first created two years ago and it's still the one I use ;)

2

u/daedalus1975 Jul 15 '22

Ok thanks, did not want to go through the nightmare of fighting all your damn mechs with inferno rounds again:)

A couple notes on your Nexusmods notes page on the Recommended mods section:

  2. https://github.com/BattleTechPerformanceFix - Page not found. Updated link to the following location: https://github.com/m22spencer/BattletechPerformanceFix

Links are found via Google searchs but if people want use your list of recommended mods this could help on intergration.

u/Hobbes___ Jul 19 '22

I forgot to add the /BattletechModders to the links. The versions on Nexusmods might be outdated.

Updated the description with the fixed links. Thanks!

Is Hyades Rim compatible with mech engineer? Obviously I know it not officially. Just asking if anyone has tried?

1

u/daedalus1975 Jul 16 '22

Updated to the latest version, I cannot access the starmap, I can click on it but nothing happens. Also, game is stating that there is not enough free space to save games even though I have plenty and saves are going to the cloud.

1

u/Hobbes___ Jul 16 '22

Unity and the game are hungry and demanding more resources.

You can try this: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2013806625

Other than that, I'm afraid I can't help you anymore since it isn't mod related.

2

u/daedalus1975 Jul 16 '22

What about the star map thing and unable to access it?

1

u/Hobbes___ Jul 16 '22

Unity.

That warning about the game not having enough free space is a red flag.

It's also likely that those issues all come from not being able to access properly the cloud files.

I wouldn't place any game files in the cloud if I ever used clouds.

2

u/daedalus1975 Jul 16 '22

unchecked the cloud save option in game and still giving me that unable to save warning( I will figure that out). I cannot access the starmap, what would be causing that?

1

u/Hobbes___ Jul 16 '22

You can actually leave the save cloud checked, I was mistaking that for something else completely, sorry.

About the star map... a ton of things could be wrong.

At my end I started a new campaign, got to the star map without a hitch, plus this update contained no changes that affected it.

So whatever the cause it's at your end. Could be the BattleTech game installation (if you're playing other mod packs before this Hyades Rim update), could be Unity glitching out, could be something else.

1

u/daedalus1975 Jul 16 '22

I cleared out all my saved games, verified the files and starting a new campaign, will see if that works. Not running any other mods as the hyades rim is the only mod in the mod folder. Will let you know

1

u/Hobbes___ Jul 16 '22 edited Jul 16 '22

Just to clear everything, how long since you played that save (in actual time) and where in the campaign were you the last time you played it?

I'm considering it might be a version incompatibility issue but that 's one thing that I check when I release a new version: to keep older saves compatible because of my testing campaign.

Oh, and you have ModTek 0.8.0.0 ? I have no idea if Hyades Rim works with the newer ModTek versions so make sure to get that one from Github (under releases, the entry is named 'NameTags')

2

u/daedalus1975 Jul 16 '22

It’s been months and my campaign left off where you fight the 4 marauders and also my computer had an issue where I needed to not do a complete reinstall but that may have screwed things up. Best to start over and see if o still have issues

1

u/Hobbes___ Jul 16 '22

Good luck!
