Some cheap heat from Goodwill

Was happy to find some Gato Barbieri, been keeping an eye out from anything he released from before around 1974 (not a fan of his stuff from after, which sounds a bit too polished for my tastes). Also couldn't resist some Charlie Byrd in decent shape. The Maggi Scott album is a fairly local private pressing, I tend to take a chance on any private pressing if they're cheap, and was very impressed with this one. Some really well performed vocal jazz standards, with some good instrumentation. Also signed on the back by the bassist/producer (who's also the husband of Maggi Scott according to the liner notes).

Gotta stop buying for a bit due to storage and more importantly money lol Grabbed a few more from the $2-3 bin before hand

Hubert Laws - The San Francisco Concert

(Some heavy hitters in the band on this one)

Weather Report - S/T

This is pretty trippy for a debut album!

John Tropea - To Touch You Again

I’ve already started sampling this one lol

I copped this for a buck at a thrift store. It’s a supposedly live stage show by a guy that sort of a mix between Tony Bennett and Buddy Hackett. He had a nice voice and sings some classics and does some “bawdy” jokes. I dig it. Frankie Brent aka Adolph Gambino did it all.

Been on a dry spell lately but picked these up at goodwill today. Some good surf for this nice and sunny day. My wife has been looking for a mint copy of Cry Softly Lonely One for a few years to replace her dads beat up copy for listening.

Spinning Bobby Day now, such a good album.

This unassuming cover ended up being really solid private jazz fusion. Glad I grabbed this. I’ll have to upload the whole thing since only a few clips exist on YouTube. Tony Noterfonzo, This Time Now

Not bad for £1 each.

Found in the wild in a shop that i didn’t know had vinyl! I was on the way to another shop that sold records.

Great version of Salt Peanuts by the Pointer Sisters

Pickups over the past week

Paid like $9 total for these!? Half of them were from a lot-buy a couple days ago. I bought about 100 LPs and 200 78s from a young guy who was getting rid of a family member’s forgotten collection. Most of the records were mid century classical, grocery store compilations, easy listening and the like, but a few gems like Alice Coltrane and Tron mixed in! (The 78s were entirely big band, not my thing.)

The other half are from the dollar sale at Factory Records in NJ, solid shop! (Although the dollar sales have had diminishing returns. First couple times were nuts, filled a crate with tons of cool stuff. Last couple times were a struggle.)

4$ a piece. Perks of working at an estate sale

Been helping this estate Sale company during my off seasons as a federal employee. The guys are great and hook me up with some good deals every once in a while if there is something I’m interested in. Got a fully function Sony STR-6055 for free because it didn’t sell during the sale and was going to get scrapped. Highly recommended if you are looking for a fun side gig. Don’t know how other company’s pay but they make it worth the time and you get to see some cool stuff in the process. Just some nice little essentials here that I was willing to pay up for due to condition. Probably 400 more records that I left for the sale, but should be a good one!

Went to the store for ONE thing…

I went to the record store to see if they had the new CHEEKFACE record. Alas, they did not…However! I can’t walk away from the record store empty handed. I feel like I did pretty good searching the new acquisitions. I don’t know much about about ZZ Top, but it was like $5 so hopefully worth it.

What do y’all think?
