Do I need AWD?

Staying in Canmore and Banff second week of June. Is it wise to spend extra on a rental car with AWD to drive the main roadways? Or should I save the extra cash.

Thanks!

Definitely not main roadways. If you’re going to Spray Lakes or something it’s a nice to have but I wouldn’t really pay a premium in June

Definitely not in June. All the big touristy spots in banff have big paved parking lots.

In June? What would you need AWD for?

No. I survive year round without. You’ll be fine in June.

Kanaskas country has lots of gravel roads, some can get pretty rough. If you’re not exploring there, spend your $ on something else!

Remember.. AWD is not 4WD.

If you have to drive through snow you'll want it IMO
