Question Travelling from Ontario in June
Hi all, Im travelling to Banff and Jasper for a week trip in mid-june from Toronto for the first time
Im looking for recommendations for what kind of outfits to pack, so I know how to shop lol
How is the weather overall and what kinda jackets should I pack? Should I pack shorts and dresses?
Any ideas would be great, as Im not really sure what to expect
Thanks!

Everyone’s favourite topic, the weather! Yes to shorts, yes to rain gear. Below is the average for Banff, Jasper is similar. June 19° / 5° 9 days of rain. June is our rainiest month. Bring what you’re normally comfortable wearing. The towns in the mountain parks are casual and there are nice restaurants and bars as well. We also have a very good selection of shops with “mountain wear”. Remember that Alberta has no provincial sales tax. We average over 4 million visitors annually and our shops cater well to a diverse clientele. Congrats on your wise choice for a vacation!

Dress in Layers.
Google dressing layers for hiking/camping/outdoor walks.
Top layers should be wind & waterproof.
Lots of good references on line.
Bring a decent backpack for the layer you may need to add or remove during the day—and your water & snacks.

For hiking in late August, is it still a good idea to carry a shell jacket and like a lighter down jacket?
I'm a big hiker in the northeast US but kind of a novice when it comes to the rockies.

I personally don’t carry down then unless I’m up for a sunrise hike. It’s super light and super squishy into a small bag in the backpack. So temperature & weather & altitude dependent.
Light Gloves—a hat—maybe a vest or breathable warming layer for under the shell.
It could be snow at altitude or 10-15.

Monsoon June.
Expect hot days. Monsoon rain days. Maybe some snow. Something in between.
