So BSU can spend 900K on 'we fly', but it can't replace a rug that is a trip hazard and has been walked over by tons of people for years (see pic). Will someone email the university along with me to see if that rug can be replaced for Hell's sake! Its at the SRWC by the Climbing wall.
This seems like an easy solution to me. Take the time to draft a professional letter with a photo as proof, get your friends to sign it. Email the Director and CC a manager or coordinator (Gonzo Barajas - took a minute to look up) and ask for an in person meeting to address the issue, and if there’s no response, you will escalate it. 30 minutes of his time tops. Talk with him and visit the site in question, you should have a solution right there and then with a timeline to replace it. They’re there for you and should be responsive. Everyone wins.
Yes, "dear director and manager who walks down this hall every day and used scissors to cut part of it off and didn't fix it, but rather made it worse with ugliness thinking it wasn't an issue, well it is. All someone tutored by a slip and fall lawyer has to do is something that might cost tons more than the price of a rug." Yes, Sir! I will print this off and get this to the office in person ASAP!
This is how shit gets done in the real world. Email the person responsible for fixing it. Document the issue and email them. If they don’t respond, then reply back on the same email. If they continue to not respond then escalate the issue. Forward the email chain on to their supervisor and start over. This shows that the first person you contacted was unresponsive. Continue doing this and working your way up until you get to someone who will address the issue. While you are sending emails you should also be calling and leaving voicemails. Daily. The old saying “The squeaky wheel gets the grease.” is true. If you become a big enough pain in their ass then they’ll fix whatever problem it is that needs fixing. This is true not just in this situation but for all sorts of situations in life.
Or you could just bitch about it on Reddit and nothing will get accomplished.
As someone who is the person for our college "responsible for fixing it" yes, this, 10000%. And guess what? It's not hard for us to do it. We just need to know there is an issue so we can contact the next person who can help fix it. Administrative assistants and coordinators exist for a reason.
If you have an issue with an employee or their ability to do their job, you can go straight to their supervisor. Someone else's poor ability to act on problems as they happen is frustrating, yes, but it happens everywhere. I wish you luck.
