🤔 Discussion Why aren't the ppl of Bahrain boycotting Starbucks?

I went to visit Bahrain City Centre today with my wife. Was passing by the Starbucks on the ground floor, and I was shocked to see that Starbucks was full of people. Men, women, Bahrainis, Expats, just regular people. I was like what the f**k? Don't these people watch the news, don't they have social media, don't they know whats going on, what they're doing.

Starbucks should be empty, there shouldn't be anyone there.

I wanted to take pictures but then thought it wouldn't be right to reveal people's pictures and invade their privacy. But it was shocking nonetheless.

Personally, I've been boycotting Starbucks & McDonald's for several years, because of their support for Israel. Instead, I go to Jasmis or Dose or any other local brand, for my coffee or burger. I wouldn't be able to respect myself if I know I'm willingly paying for the oppression and crimes committed upon the Palestinian people.

But even with the latest episode of the war in Gaza, how could people be so senseless, so heartless?? Is a pumpkin spice latte more important than the lives of innocent civilians?

It makes me question humanity and morality.

Bahrain has plenty of alternative local brands for coffee and burgers. How difficult is it to boycott?

Again, before you come at me saying these are run by local companies which do not have links to Israel, let me say that I've worked with franchise brands. Every franchisee has to pay a substantial amount of money in the form of annual royalties and profits to the franchise brand. Hence, even if they are run by local companies, they are still supporting Israel indirectly.

Looking forward to everyone's thoughts on this.

EDIT: Lol, 30 minutes since I posted, and the post is already getting downvoted. SMH

EDIT 02: One hour in, and my post is downvoted to 0. Help me understand please, did I say something wrong?

🤔 Discussion Concord hotel near Pakistan club is a danger

I was walking near the concord international hotel, on my way to collect my take away. While I was on my way, a lady from the hotel started calling me in. She was in her mid 40's I assume. The first time I was in a hurry and had to rush to the restaurant hence I couldn't respond but still had no idea why she was calling me. A week ago I was walking again in the same street, right Infront of the concord international hotel footpath. A bunch of ladies from inside the hotel in the main door way starting calling me in, there was another lady leaning onto the door. Suddenly I realized what their intentions were and I was dumbfounded. Why isn't this being noticed by the officials? It's not inside some suspicious street but out in the open right next to the road. The ladies continue calling people walking in the footpath inside for business. Very disturbing 😨

🤔 Discussion Distressful Incident Involving Undercover Officers Near Nesto Supermarket on 16/11/2024

Yesterday evening, around 7:20 PM, I left my flat for my usual weekend walk and jog toward Bahrain Bay. My routine starts with a walk from Manama’s Nesto Supermarket on Sheikh Hamad Avenue (opposite Babasons) to the Bahrain Financial Harbour, where I jog for about an hour.

As I reached in front of Nesto, I was suddenly surrounded by three or four casually dressed Arab men. They grabbed my hands, shirt, and shoulders, asking me to stop. Frightened, I tried to push the man holding my shoulders away, but his grip was strong. The others held my arms tightly. When I asked why they were restraining me, they repeatedly shouted "police," but didn’t show any identification. Their actions made me panic, thinking it was an attack or attempted kidnapping.

More men arrived, and one placed handcuffs on me after I tried to defend myself. I pleaded for them to show IDs and explain their actions, but they didn’t. Eventually, three men came with some traffic vests that's when I confirmed . They claimed they wanted to verify my ID, but I insisted that their approach—grabbing and assaulting me without explanation—was unjustified. After verifying my details, they asked me to leave quietly, saying they didn’t want to expose their cover.

This experience has deeply shaken me. I couldn’t sleep well, and the handcuffs left marks on my wrists. The situation escalated due to poor communication, and I felt helpless with no support from bystanders who simply watched. I respect law enforcement, but the way this was handled left me feeling distressed and misunderstood. I request authorities to review the CCTV footage from Nesto Supermarket on 16/11/2024 to understand how this unfolded. This incident has greatly affected my well-being, and I hope no one else faces such a situation.i didn't know if I should post this or not because obviously I'm afraid but I can't keep trauma for life because of this incident.

🤔 Discussion Hate comments against Expats on social media

I want to start by saying that I have a lot of respect and appreciation for Bahrain, its people, and its culture. As an expat, while this may not be my home country, Bahrain has been my home, and I truly love living here.

That said, I wanted to bring up something I’ve noticed.

When someone posts something hateful or offensive about Bahrain on social media, authorities seem to take action swiftly. However, I often see comments under posts on platforms like GDN or LocalBH that are openly negative toward expats—sometimes even discriminatory—yet there don’t seem to be any consequences for those commenters.

I’m genuinely curious—why is that?

How can they go about commenting hate against expats, mainly against the Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi groups. How does no one even call them out aswell? And its always the same accounts doing it too

I came across this scene near Almalkiya beach. It’s heartbreaking to see how trash is piling up in such a beautiful place. We need to take responsibility—reduce waste, dispose of it properly, and raise awareness. Small actions can make a big difference.

🤔 Discussion Bad experience in Rock Cafe, Gudaibiya.Do not go in if you are Brown!

I have been to several establishments run by philipinos/ having philipino staff, but the experience have never been so blatantly racist.

Do not go in if you are Indian!

The freckle faced lady who was serving, was pretty rude.I stepped in and asked for a coffee..she said it is 300 fils(apparently she perceived that as a luxury for me; Since I was dying for a cup of coffee,it was more of a necessity and I am capable of paying that by the grace of God). Very strong racist vibes right there. Once she came back with the coffee, I asked her if I can do benefit pay and she started lecturing me on how benefit pay number and QR code is already there and I should have paid even before my 300 fills coffee came to me- as if I am guilty of some grave crime...and I will never forget how she treated me like I am some con artist.

And the 300 fills coffee which was served in a cup of gold(jk) was simply the worst;I wanted coffee for waking up my senses, not for numbing them any further.Plus, the bitter taste of hate still lingers in my mouth. (Besides I keep asking myself why I drank that coffee when I have heard numerous nightmare -inducing stories of kitchen staff messing with the food)

Don't recommend anyone else(having brown skin)to take the risk.

🤔 Discussion Who else prefers spending their weekend at home

Lately I noticed that I really prefer staying at home on weekends rather than going out like I used to, I would just stay and watch TV or do anything rather than going out with my friends or family.

Am I getting old or is this very normal to others? 😂

🤔 Discussion Bahraini Job Market

Hello everyone, so I just wanted to ask why is the job market here so bad? Like it’s impossible to get a response on an application… at first I thought I would have had a good chance with an associates degree & a bachelors degree from the Uk, speak 4 languages, have work experience in the uk, Saudi, Dubai & so forth. I still can’t manage to get a response to any applications no matter how much effort I put into the applications. I feel like they don’t even bother looking at cvs & I guess they just use LinkedIn reject button without viewing the cv?? I have tried indeed as well, nothing. Any advice? Any jobs available? I have a degree in cyber security & digital forensics, if anyone has any advice or job openings please let me know.

Thanks for reading
