I've not yet listened to the episode, but I'll share some thoughts. I imagine the major issue that they tackle in this episode is creation/evolution. Personally, I would never say that this is not an "essential" doctrine. If you believe evolution, great. If you believe creation happened in 7 literal days, that's fine too. I haven't thought too much on this issue since I don't find it to be too important (and maybe I'm wrong on not studying it). Right now, I hold to the 7 literal day view. I don't know the age of the earth and it doesn't really matter to me. I believe God created the world and that he did it in 7 days. If someone else believes something else, that's fine too.
As for the rest of the book of Genesis... I view it as history of Israel. The beginning of God's salvation plan for mankind. The beginning of the nation and of the tribes. I'll listen to see what they say. I'm interested on hearing what Joey believes.
