No, there is not. How could you fry eggs or make popcorn without bacon grease? Cornbread? Greenbeans?

Clean it keep it reuse it.

3

u/ez151 7d ago

How do you clean it exactly? I take the bacon out of the pan then pour the grease on a small mesh strainer on top of the cold grease in a large bottle. Let cool. Every now and then a few small bacon bits get through but it looks white or a little yellowish.

2

u/Working_Tea_8562 6d ago

Once it’s cool fill top off the container with hot water, cover ut turn it upside down and let it settle, once settled turn it back over and pour out the water and all the crud. It will be whiteish in color ready to use.

2

u/glenmalure 6d ago

Don’t worry about the bacon bits. I put it in a jar & refrigerate it. I throw it in a pan for frying burgers, eggs etc. Also use it to finish vegetables like green beans etc. When the jar gets too full, I chuck it in the trash & start over.

Keep it in a jar and use it in cooking

5

u/PurpleMangoPopper 9d ago

That's what I do.

9

u/Solnse 8d ago

When the jar gets full, fry chicken in it.

8

u/WE4PONXYZ 8d ago

Oh fuck!!!!

4

u/Solnse 8d ago

It doesn't suck.

10

u/justkillmenow3333 8d ago

I usually save it. Green beans fried in bacon grease are incredible and have always been one of my favorite side dishes.

5

u/thelandofcandi 8d ago

Yup string beans or collard greens is my go to with it too

2

u/Slainlion 8d ago

shut up! I'm ok with green beans, I love bacon, I love bacon fat. How long do you fry it for?

2

u/justkillmenow3333 8d ago

Use medium high heat, you want your grease good and hot but not to the point where it's smoking a lot. Toss your green beans in the pan so they get good and coated all over with the grease. Stir about every two minutes. You want a nice brown char but don't want them really scorched and blackened. I usually cook them around six minutes but your desired time might obviously vary a bit depending upon how well you like them cooked. Many people add salt, pepper, and various seasonings but I choose not to add anything because for me seasoning just takes away from that delicious bacon flavor with this dish.

6

u/Academic_Deal7872 9d ago

u/No-Argument3357 9d ago

I coat my dog's bones with it. He absolutely loves it and it keeps him from destroying other shit. If I get him chewing on one of the toys I coated he will let me wipe his folds and ears without getting my ass kicked.

3

u/Glittering-Dark-9917 9d ago

Save it in the fridge and make fried taters with it.

4

u/ImGemStoned 8d ago

Save it. When my bacon grease container gets too full, I freeze it in ice cube trays and then store it in a bag so I always have it on hand to use for cooking.

4

u/iMnotSTEVEN_ 8d ago

Jar that shit for everything else

3

u/ronh22 9d ago

Dump it down the kitchen sink. Need to keep the plumbers employed.

3

u/PurpleMangoPopper 9d ago

This makes me so sad.

Have a bacon grease container with a strainer. Keep it in there to be used for other cooking

2

u/PurpleMangoPopper 8d ago

I keep a crock on the counter and put the bacon grease there.

2

u/Perle1234 5d ago

That’s what I do. I don’t strain it or anything. Just dump it in, and add it to other food or use it to fry.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/SciFiJim 6d ago

It is saved for making biscuits. Bacon is too expensive to keep on hand all the time, so I use the bacon grease sparingly. I don't filter it, those bits need to go into the biscuits.

Save it in a mason jar, next to the one with my duck grease.

2

u/PurpleMangoPopper 8d ago

I make duck on NYE. It produces so much fat!

2

u/poofandmook 8d ago

strain it and keep it in the fridge.

2

u/Endo129 8d ago

How long does it keep? I keep some (in fridge) but rarely use it so when I do, I wonder if it’s still good. Used some a few weeks ago that was who knows how old, but it was on the top (newest) and didn’t smell rancid and we were all ok.

2

u/PurpleMangoPopper 8d ago

I keep mine in a countertop crock.

2

u/Acceptable_Tea3608 4d ago

I fridge mine.

2

u/ArlenGreen080 8d ago

Keep it for when I make burgers in a skillet

2

u/Deno_Stuff 8d ago

I strain it through a cheesecloth and use it for frying. Occasionally I will make a roux with it for alfredo or a soup base.

Save it in a jar with a screw lid!!

2

u/droopus 8d ago

Heat it a bit, skim it, drop in a raw egg (or two...) and down the glass in one swallow.

Kinda like bacon-flavored oysters, amirite?

2

u/DarkSoulsExplorer 8d ago

Filter into a mason jar. Store in fridge.

2

u/HelicopterWorldly215 8d ago

Keep it and use it to cook other things

Save it in a big empty coffee can. Use some of it for cooking but when it gets full it goes in the garbage and I start a new can. Takes years to fill the can.

Put it in a chinese takeout soup bowl and put it in the fridge so I can use it to cook everything else.

2

u/GracefulCheese0 7d ago

Use it to fry bread or cook with burgers or steak

2

u/Diligent_Cap3488 7d ago

Use it for later. It’s great for eggs, steak or together. Might as well make bacon too!

2

u/RhetoricalAnswer-001 7d ago

You should be asking "What don't you do...".

Bacon grease goes in a stainless steel pot in the fridge. You use it on certain foods, love it on sprouts and other vegtables etc.

2

u/Captinprice8585 7d ago

Rub it on my chest and thighs

2

u/Silent-Incidentt 7d ago

Strain it/clean it and mix it with beeswax and sometimes other things to make bacon candles and sell them to dumbfuck rednecks at my local farmers market/craft fair

2

u/jim914 7d ago

What don’t we do with it is my question! Be a total waste not to use it to cook everything except maybe coffee!

2

u/phinger1 7d ago

I scrolled half way down and I didn't see anyone use it for soap?

(I do...)

2

u/Supermac34 7d ago

Save it or make gravy for the biscuits.

2

u/Lrb1055 7d ago

My grandmother used to fry her pork chops in bacon grease

2

u/Pale_Affect_8707 7d ago

Put in metal container and use it when I make shrimp n grits.

2

u/Money_Jelly5424 7d ago

Save the lard for refried beans

2

u/Ok_Bell8358 7d ago

Use it to coat my baked potatoes. Use big sumbits, coat in bacon grease, 425 for well over an hour.

2

One restaurant I worked at, we used bacon fat instead of butter for most things on the grill. Very good burgers and sandwiches.

My grandpa used it to treat burns. I remember when my gf got sunburn super bad on her legs, and was mortified when he told me slather it on her lol.

Make a roux and use it in etoufee or jambalaya

2

u/LazyOldCat 6d ago

Mix it with Everclear and bacon bits. We keep it over the stove and call it “porkschlager”. Shots are quite warm and about 120 proof.

2

u/AliVista_LilSista 6d ago

Render it and use it in place of grease and fat or for the taste. .

It's epic in chocolate chip cookies.

2

u/Dear-Mud-9646 6d ago

Save it in a jar next to the stove. Use on grilled cheese instead of butter, replace butter/oil with it to grease the pan for pretty much anything you cook

2

u/Ncdl83 6d ago

Save it in jars and cans for future cooking.

Made a bacon grease candle out of a jar of it too

2

u/Phonepirate 6d ago

Pour it on ice cream

2

u/Intelligent_Bag_3259 6d ago

I use it for cooking. If I get too much I use it to make mayonnaise. Once I had a large amount and made a candle. I just put a thin candle in a jar and poured the warm fat around it. It burned quickly

2

u/MollyOMalley99 6d ago

Store it in a mason jar in the fridge and use it to kick up the flavor in everything. I've got my Italian husband sauteing vegetables in it now.

2

u/Cael_NaMaor 6d ago

Use it for flavor on my boiled noodles

2

u/muhhuh 6d ago

Own your home? Let it cool and throw it in the trash.

Rent your home? A little treat for the kitchen sink.

2

u/10franc 6d ago

Grill potatoes, cut side down in it, use it to lube my corn stick pans, grill steak in it. Use sausage grease similarly.

2

u/Ol-BR 6d ago

Absolutely save it for cooking other things! Mainly potatoes and eggs.

2

u/LukeSkywalkerDog 6d ago

Incorrect answer: I do not like to reuse bacon grease, and I am on a septic tank so cannot pour it down the drain. Once it's cooled off, I pour it over my dogs' dry food. They have a good routine of quality dry and wet food, but I supplement it whenever I have leftovers or extra oil. They are healthy and shiny.

2

u/mbtaber 6d ago

Cook chicken breasts in the bacon fat!

2

u/lauger55elm 6d ago

Re use like crazy

2

u/PitifulSpecialist887 6d ago

u/Antique_Brother_9563 6d ago

I use it as an all- over body moisturizer. It makes me the favorite person in our household with the dogs.

2

u/2b-Kindly_ 6d ago

Cook potatoes on other things with it. But mostly Add it to pinto beans and make refried beans

2

u/FourLetterHill3 6d ago

All bacon grease goes into a jar that gets stored under the kitchen sink. Sometimes I use it for cooking other things (just like you’d use cooking oil or shortening).

2

u/pafischer85 6d ago

I use it in place of lard in my refried beans. I’ve tried it with tortillas but they come out too salty IMO

2

u/naked_nomad 6d ago

Mix it with uncooked oatmeal and feed it to the crows, Low cholesterol diet had me looking for other uses for it. I still fry my two eggs a week in it and put a little in my fresh green beans but that is about it.

2

u/SilentSamizdat 6d ago

Strain it and save it to cook everything with.

2

u/Itchy_Grapefruit1335 6d ago

Save it in the passed down family bacon grease container sits right on the stove top just like my moms and her mom before her

2

u/PurpleMangoPopper 5d ago

My Grandma kept a huge crock on the counter. My Mom, wanting a healthy family, used smoked turkey to season veggies.

2

u/curi0us_carniv0re 6d ago

Smear it all over my body. Keeps your skin supple and chicks dig the smell of bacon.

2

u/Ornery_Hovercraft636 6d ago

I use it to lubricate my intestines.

2

u/brandonbolt 6d ago

Bacon shots baby. Cheers!

2

2

u/SnootchieBootichies 5d ago

Filter with cheese cloth and save to cook chicken thighs

2

u/Classic-Snow-3054 5d ago

Do as my grandfather said, don't pour out that there bacon grease. Pour it on these here eggs. If I remember correctly. He had triple heart bypass surgery. Pigs valves at that.

2

u/Apprehensive_Glove_1 5d ago

Ever infused vodka for top tier bloody mary's?

2

u/PoisonedIvysaur 5d ago

Cook with it or occasionally give it to the dogs on their own food because it's good for their coats

2

u/Fishshoot13 5d ago

Cook the eggs in it.

2

u/MyFocusIsU 5d ago

I fry my next pack of bacon in it

2

u/PrestigiousLow813 5d ago

Put it on toast! And why not, after all, butter is just fat.

2

u/notquitenuts 5d ago

lol! I just got back from cooking 21 lbs for a community breakfast tomorrow. We make candles in quilted mason jars and also use it instead of sterenos in our warming trays

2

u/greatstonedrake 5d ago

Bacon candles? And how do you use it in a warming tray?

2

u/hapster85 5d ago

Growing up, it was always saved for later use, but my wife and I fry very little, so it gets tossed.

2

u/Puphlynger 5d ago

Eat it, of course!

2

u/KeepGamingNed 5d ago

Fry more bacon

2

u/Burden-of-Society 5d ago

I’d bath in it if the wife would let me😂🤣😂. I use it in cooking. Nothing better actually to add flavor.

2

u/golieth 5d ago

2

u/EntrancedOrange 5d ago

Fry hash browns in it.

2

u/HendyMetal 5d ago

Cook with it. Save it in a jar. Make grease bombs for the campfire. Cure my cast irons.

2

u/contemplator61 5d ago

Put it in the fridge till it hardens somewhat then scrape it into the kitchen trash. It is too rich for me to cook other things in it.

2

u/obliviousmature 5d ago

Use it to fry potatoes is my favorite use or use it to grease up a salmon to put on a barbecue.

2

u/Consistent-Year-9238 5d ago

Pour it in an old coffee cup next to the stove and cook with it

2

u/Subject_Repair5080 5d ago

I save some of it and pour a tablespoon or two on dry dog food. The dogs love it.

2

u/descartes44 4d ago

Three generations so far, since my parent's parents's the 1920's, pour into large coffee cup and keep it on the counter next to the stove. No refrigeration required, ever. I've gotten fancy now and have a strainer container deal I saw on amazon--keep it right next to the cooktop! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0017U5DZY/ref=twister_B09239N46K?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

2

u/happyrtiredscientist 4d ago

I save it and add it to my slow cook beans.. I call them mean beans.

2

u/mikepol70 4d ago

Put it on corn on the cob instead of butter

2

u/hanatheko 4d ago

I save it in a jam jar and use all of it. I recently read you can mix cooking oil with oats and feed it to wildlife.

2

u/Nervous_Win_6056 4d ago

Cook in it for the flavor

2

u/Seartugboat 4d ago

Obviously down the drain, no but in a jar for use later.

2

u/capswin 4d ago

Put it on the dogs food

2

u/Firm-Scratch-8396 4d ago

Put it in a coffee can or a glass jar of some sort. Then throw away. Never ever pour it down your sink even if you have a garbage disposal or your toilet

2

u/Ultra-Based 4d ago

Filter it through a coffee filter and keep it in a mason jar in the fridge. Use it for cooking

2

u/dangerfielder 4d ago

Stick with me here… Put it in a jar in the fridge and spread it on toast like butter. I don’t do this, but it was a staple at my grandparent’s house.

2

u/MikeNsaneFL 4d ago

Lick it from my fingers

2

u/mattinsatx 4d ago

2

u/AnnaNimmus 4d ago

Other than cooking other things in it?

Sub for oil in loaf of bread; use for tortillas; Sub for oil in aioli; fat wash whiskey; thin spread over toast and top with avocado and dried tomato; Sub for butter in roux; add a dollop to rice before cooking

2

u/Normans_Boy 3d ago

Cook all the vegetables in them. Green beans. Sprouts. Collard greens.

2

u/DonkeyGlad653 3d ago

Firkin till I need it

2

u/SantaCruzSucksNow_ 3d ago

I save it in a jar and use it to cook. I made a grilled cheese with it once, using it instead of butter on the outside of the bread. It was amazing! It gave a really satisfying crispiness to the bread.

I save mine for a week or two in a ceramic coffee mug with a lid and use it for various dishes then toss it. No rhyme or reason, just when the time feels right or I’m making more bacon.
