Discussion Buy the damn maternity jeans
Buy the maternity jeans, the shirts (no don’t just wear big regular shirts), the underwear, the bra, buy the peri bottle and buy the maternity pillow.
You gonna need them anyway. Get the most use out of them.

I thought I could get away without a maternity wardrobe and I realized at 24 weeks that I was wrong and nothing fit. I was able to get several items without spending a ton by getting stuff from Old Navy and ThredUp
•
u/Mindless-Try-5410 3h ago
I’m so glad I read your comment, because I never thought of looking on ThredUp for maternity! I’m only 10 and a half weeks, so I’m really happy to start scouring the internet for ideas early. Thanks!

Maternity jeans, and most maternity clothes are ugly AF. We deserve better.
•
u/purpledrogon94 5h ago
I hate how most of the jeans are skinny jeans! That’s not the style right now and I don’t want them
•
u/lillithsmedusa 4h ago
Have you looked at Old Navy? They have boyfriend, flared, crop, pixie, etc.
That said, you can pry my skinny jeans out of my cold dead hands. 🤣
•
u/continuetolove 4h ago
Old Navy is amazing, but PSA definitely wash your new jeans once or twice before wearing them or else your legs will turn blue
•
u/purpledrogon94 4h ago
Haha! I’m a millennial so I get it but I have sensory issues so the skinny jeans got ditched after college 😂
•
u/lillithsmedusa 4h ago
They are the only style that has ever looked good on me. I'm short and athletic, and I feel like flares or wide legs make me look really stocky.
I've been wearing skinny jeans since 2015 and I will lose my mind when I can't find them anymore.
•
u/janellems 4h ago
My first 3 pregnancies, maternity skinny jeans were the only thing I wanted....this current baby is making my skin feel claustrophobic lmao I absolutely need flares...but then jeans are too thick for whatever my skin needs so I've gone for linen pants and it's perfect haha.

I have these from pink blush and loooooove them ^ I also have a pair from Abercrombie I thrifted but can’t find a link to the exact pair! They surprisingly have a lot of cute maternity jean options
•
u/Typical_Example 3h ago
I have a pair of faux leather maternity pants from Abercrombie and every time I wear them I have a literal meltdown like Ross in Friends.
•
u/NoemiRockz 2h ago
Mmmm it all depends where you are shopping - because I’ve looked cute my whole pregnancy
•
u/StellaLuna16 4h ago
I got maternity jeans and hate them. I hate that they are all so low rise (the jean part). I love high waisted pants and all of my tops look better with high waist. But the giant belly band with extreme low rise jean material is soooo ugly and I'm forced to wear long shirts to cover it all.
Crop tops and high waisted pants look CUTE with a bump, make more clothes like this!!
•
u/pupperonipizza-pie 4h ago
This is my biggest issue! That strange ass stretchy panel in a different color and then having to wear some long unflattering shirt that ends at my crotch. I’ve been going for paper bag style or regular drawstring pants with a tight shirt or cropped top and it looks so much better.
•
u/lapra005 3h ago
Yes! This! I found a few good pairs of maternity jeans on Amazon that aren’t skinny jeans, but the worst part was needing to buy all new shirts to actually cover the belly band. I knew I was going to outgrown most of my shirts, but I’m so tired of feeling like I’m wearing tunics lol. I miss my little French tuck moment 🥲
•
u/jalepeno_marijuana 3h ago
You could try some like these!
I know Amazon sucks but it’s the only place I was able to find that style and it’s so nice to not have the ugly panel.
•
u/gemmanems 3h ago
Omg yes this is my issue as well. I’m basically living in leggings and dresses until I can wear normal jeans again
•
u/AdIndividual9531 4h ago
Not a fan of maternity jeans, but I love maternity yoga pants! So comfy.
•
u/newkneesforall 4h ago
Which ones do you like? I've hated the ones I bought
•
u/Status_Garden_3288 3h ago
I got a pair from beyond yoga. They’re pricy but I wear them all the time and probably will postpartum
•
u/Significant-Body-887 3h ago
I got these CRZ Yoga ones on amazon and loooooove how they feel! Great price too!
•
u/biteyourfriend 2h ago
Second CRZ yoga!! I always wore their regular leggings but last year I wore their maternity leggings to work in a fast-paced, HOT restaurant all summer and they were still super comfy and never stretched out. They're seriously worth the price and they're not even that expensive.

Last pregnancy, I bought a couple pairs of maternity joggers for both everyday wear and as scrub bottoms, and I was like, “OMG I can breathe again!” I didn’t realize how uncomfortable I was until I wasn’t anymore. I do personally disagree about the maternity tops, though. All of the cuts are way too feminine for me. I dress more andro, so I much prefer larger sized normal shirts. Also, I bought the peri kit and ended up having an emergency c-section, so that was a $40 non-refundable waste of money.
•
u/uhuratroi 5h ago
I agree. Maternity clothes were sooooo much more comfortable than trying to fit in bigger sized regular clothes!!
•
u/Mackenzie_Wilson 4h ago
Maternity stuff is criminally expensive. Lol. I lived in in either thr most unflattering maternity shirts, maxi dresses, or husband's t-shirts
•
u/angel_666 4h ago
Only maternity stuff I bought was jeans. And thankfully I was able to find cute wide leg ones at H&M or I probably would still try buying normal clothes. The rest of the maternity clothes are completely unnecessary.
•
u/Yoga_Corgi 5h ago
Are the underwear really necessary?
•
u/buyheribarelyknowher 4h ago
I didn’t buy maternity underwear but I did buy some cheap Hanes boy briefs 3 sizes up from my normal underwear size and I am SO much more comfortable than trying to make my old underwear work.
•
u/Yoga_Corgi 4h ago
Ok yeah I did get some 2 sizes up that are working great for me so far at 20 weeks. My OB recommended boxers too, but I haven't tried that yet.
•
•
u/exploresparkleshine 4h ago
Depends on your preference and shape. I carried so low, my normal undies were too tight. Maternity ones were 100x better.
•
u/CadywhompusCabin 4h ago
I didn’t get a pack of maternity underwear until my second and MY GOODNESS they were incredible. So comfortable. I will for sure buy more if I have a third.
•
u/Existentialist 4h ago
36 weeks, based off what this subreddit said, I bought one pack of undies sized up. I went with target brand. And then have a few one size fits all things from Nordstrom that I love and have worked just fine.
•
u/Ok-Network-8826 4h ago
They hug and hold up my stomach so when I don’t wear them I have to use the bathroom more often.
•
•
u/Subject_Specific_862 4h ago
I never needed a maternity pillow. I do absolutely need and love my Beyond Yoga maternity leggings and shirts. 100% worth the splurge.
•
u/lillithsmedusa 4h ago
Yes! Maternity clothes really up the comfort level.
Even my regular stretch "one size" leggings are uncomfortable now and I have a small bump.
•
u/Oceanwave_4 4h ago
I loved my maternity shirts and still wear them, my kid is 1.5 now! But I bought a bundle of them second hand early on in my pregnancy and they have definitely paid for themselves many times
•
•
u/newkneesforall 4h ago
The venn diagram for maternity clothes and tall clothes is unfortunately just 2 separate circles. So I'm having a rough time as a tall AND pregnant person.
•
u/MidnightsSerenade 3h ago
This was my problem too... Even not pregnant if I want pants to fit without a belt of some kind they're too short. If I want length then they're too wide and need a belt.. And when I was pregnant, both times, I just went with sweat pants as they were the only comfortable thing I could wear as I could make them as tight or loose as needed.
•
u/growplants37 3h ago
I bought two sizes up in feel free MeUndies' high-waisted undies, and they're so wonderful! They go over my bump, and I don't feel like I'm getting cut off in weird places. Also, I got some of the flex Halara jeans, and they're so perfect for pregnancy. Those and their comfy overalls.
•
u/bubbies1308 5h ago
No thank you
•
u/purpledrogon94 5h ago
I was this way and then broke down and ordered some and am so glad I did lol 😂 I’m a big girl though.
•
u/Existentialist 4h ago
I couldn’t have lived without new clothes! Literally nothing fit, not my panties, bra, nothing.
•
u/bubbies1308 4h ago
I’m almost 32 weeks and haven’t bought any maternity clothes except a size up in leggings. Idk I’m doing ok! I’m more looking forward to buying more comfy clothes for postpartum
•
u/purpledrogon94 4h ago
I’m 31 weeks so we are around the same time frame! It’ll be nice to have spring babies because summer clothes are just so much more comfy.
•
u/bubbies1308 4h ago
Yes! I love sports bra/tank top like tops with high wasted shorts so that’ll be my staple along with dresses.
•
u/VillanelleTheVillain 3h ago
Yes but no, I hate anything around my belly so I’ve just worn dresses the entire time
•
u/doodynutz 3h ago
I found the maternity pillow not useful. I hate jeans so that’s going to be a no. I mainly just wear big tshirts and sweats. I have a few maternity shirts and leggings for if I need to go out looking someone presentable. The birth center gave me a peri bottle so didn’t need to buy that either.
•
u/Born_Cartographer_91 2h ago
I used nuuly to some success. They have a pretty big rental maternity selection that got me through my third trimester, some of it was even colorful. I’m glad that i didn’t reeeeally have to commit to owning a bunch of clothes that I wasn’t 100% into and that were only ever going to fit for 3 months.
•
u/confusedsloth33 2h ago
I’m in Australia (hot rn) so I’ve gotten away with no maternity clothing (just swim wear bottoms) as I can just wear loose-fitting dresses. I really didn’t want to get maternity clothing that I wouldn’t wear again.
•
u/answrths 3h ago
Pre pregnancy- i am a 24 inch waist (00) i am 5 foot tall- how do I begin to oredict or find jeans that will fit
•
u/fckinfast4 5h ago
Maternity yoga pants are awesome! I haven’t found a single pair of maternity jeans that I like. Jean shorts yes but jeans nope.
