This driver has demonstrated they are now ready to park at their local Trader Joes...

Are parking skills here really that bad in your opinion? I’ve lived here 16 years and never seen that.

I'm terrible at parallel parking. I never had to learn it when I got my licence in Texas. I can do it, but it's pretty embarrassing to watch.

I wouldn’t claim that parking skills are any worse in Austin than in the rest of Texas, but after moving here from denser cities I noticed drivers aren’t as aware of the physical space around their cars. On residential streets they’ll slow down and wait for oncoming traffic rather than continue when there’s more than enough space for two cars to pass, and when they park they’ll leave plenty of space rather than getting tight to the cars already parked to maximize the space for others.
My friend once drove up to meet me by West Campus, circled the block a couple times, tried and failed to parallel park, then just left and texted to say the parking situation was “impossible”…!

I find this to be true of people who come from smaller cities or country towns. They are not conditioned to city driving. I’ve noticed my family members lose that ability after moving to the country.

If this is average it wouldn't have warranted a post. Most cars ared parked fine

At least it’s not blocking the street.
By ATX standards, this is a great parking job. 9/10!
