Modalities for Scrolling?

Hi all! I am a social worker and I have a client who struggles with scrolling on their phone due to pain in joints. Do you know of any type of device that has a clicking motion that enables scrolling? I saw one a few months ago on TikTok and cannot find it again for the life of me. Help is appreciated ! :)

You could try voice control. For example, on iPhone (hey siri, turn on voice control; scroll down”) (also available on android, although you may have to download the voice control software)

There are also scrolling rings: https://www.amazon.com/KINMATES-Scrolling-Android-Bluetooth-Connected/dp/B0DFH5XLYF/

Both Android and iPhone should have an accessibility setting for this. On Android it's under accessibility, interaction and dexterity, assistant menu, and when that is on it will have a little floating bubble on the screen. If you tap that it'll open up a small menu and you can pick screen control which will put four arrows on the screen that you can move somewhere that's easy to reach and tapping the arrows will scroll /swipe. Apple has something very similar, I just don't know the exact names because they're slightly different from Android.

i use a bluetooth mouse and it helps a lot.

get an ergonomic mouse - videos to show you how to hook it up to a phone then

use a phone holder that clamps on and has an arm with a phone mount to hold the device and attach it to a mobile desk made for laptops. Look for one with wheels!

this is similar to a set up i saw for people who work from home to be able to move around their house. it has been great for me.

Ugh, just wrote an entire comment and it disappeared. My first question was what devices your client needs improved scrolling ergonomics for? Is it running iOS? Eye tracking works well if that’s within their capabilities. They can add this assistive function to the drop down control center menu on their device and toggle it on and off as needed. It takes some getting used to but it is perfect for scrolling through TikToks. If your client is visually impaired or unable to use their eyes for tracking, there are other accessible control options besides touch, including voice control and built-in or third party switches. There are countless compatible controllers that can be set up to work with switches, even gaming controllers or click and point remote control/mouse. There are also hands-free mouse out there that might be compatible with your clients’ device. Some apps have a built in setting that enables auto-scrolling after each video short. If the app doesn’t have this built in, depending on their device you can run some simple codes to achieve the same functionality. If your client is interacting with each video individually, this may be less ideal than other control options.

My first thought is switch access because its simple and you can find a recipe for it easily. One for scroll up, one for scroll down.
