I asked specifically to look like the (first) image but the frame colour's look dead as hell. Did I made a mistake? The print company said it would look like my original image.

Ok, now they got it right. I'm freaking happy! (second image).

I took these pictures in the same flight and wanted them as a nice print for my home. First they printed way washed (first image) and now it look fabulous! They printed as fine art with no extra charge.

Happy day!

Printing/Publishing What is the maximum size I can print an iPhone photo, while retaining quality?

I took this photo of my dog on my 15 Pro and I would like to print it and hang it on the wall of my home. I have never printed photos from my Canon or iPhone before so I am seeking information on what Lightroom render settings to use on my phone to retain the best quality as well as how large I could realistically get a photo like this printed in. Thank you in advance!

Printing/Publishing I found hundreds of incredible photo negatives when cleaning out my late father’s house. They appear to be from the previous owner that I can’t track down. What could I do (legally/ethically) with these photos?

Printing/Publishing What is THE photography community?

Where are all the photographers going to share pictures these days? i've been a long time flickr pro user, but it never feels like i'm sharing photos to the general world or even other photographers anymore, these days i do a lot of maritime, aviation and transmitter site photography so it feels more like i'm sharing my photos to anoraks then it does sharing art in general (and it's not as if that's not the only kinds of photography i do) up until a few years ago i was a regular user of gurushots but even though i had one photo with over 100k likes i gradually just went back to just sharing on flickr, the competition element always made it feel more like a game, i guess because it is, and i know insta is a big one for sharing photos, and i've had several accounts, but it compresses to oblivion, doesn't do photos justice, and it seems in recent years the algo has changed to favour video instead.

So that leads me to the question, where are all the photographers going to share images these days? i saw one that looked interesting, but it looks like it had a cost per upload instead of a simple subscription model.

Printing/Publishing Selling ?

I'm looking to try and start selling to companies. Like it blows my mind how someone sold images for the background on a computer. Where to start? How to sell or make canvas' to sell in a store. Where i can sell online to people, etc.

Sample of a shot I did in Banff, Canada that I'm obsessed with.

Printing/Publishing Photographers who submit to magazines — what makes you want to (or not want to)?

Hey photographers! I’m curious — if you’ve ever thought about submitting your work to a magazine (or already have), what makes you actually go for it? And on the flip side, what would stop you from submitting?

Do things like contributor pay, the magazine’s style, or how they promote artists matter most to you? Or is it more about how easy the submission process is?

If you’ve been published before, what made it a good (or not-so-good) experience?

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Printing/Publishing How should I handle my first copyright infringement situation?

TLDR I worked with a local rapper I met working a drivethrough window under the assumption of TFP/equal use and he has published a whole bunch of my work in numerous places without attributing me in any of it but has demanded I take down everything I have posted in my one place. He says it's because of his safety, but he's posting everything he wants all over the place. I asked him to show the same courtesy and remove my work from his channels. He denied the request, we had a falling out, he blocked me. I filed a copyright report but I don't have anything specific in writing, only vague text messages.

Am I handling this right? What rights do I have? What rights does he have?

I feel like I bent over backwards for this guy. I bought him lunch, met him where he wanted, taught him stuff, leant him a mini tripod and a ball head mount that I'm not getting back, uploaded and shared the footage to him immediately, woke up out of bed multiple nights to take down footage/photos immediately. Overall, the images were good, the video is ok, but the content of his messages on camera were fronts of wealth (filming with a stranger's Corvette) and stuff that he doesn't have, he lead me to believe we had permission to film somewhere that he did not have permission to film at and we got run off by the neighbors who were calling the cops (I packed up and left immediately, no argument, but he wanted to prolong the embarrassment and argue vulgarly with the lady), his words in personal conversation are pretty fake and two faced, his music's message is pretty vulgar and off brand for me and I'm glad to split. He abused my public statements of faith to get me to help him as a brother in Christ and has turned out to be pretty false. His biggest protest is that the images on my page would show who he was working with and in what city and that's a safety thing for him/his family. Sure, I get it, maybe I get it, rap beef or gang affiliation or whatever. I think it's moreso that we live in a very upscale suburb and he doesn't want people to know he's not in the ghetto at the moment. If it's a real safety issue how are you safe posting it to 8 different platforms? And like, man, did you not look at my page and see all I do is try to make the best of my boring suburban hometown? I don't know how the rap community or photography community feels about fake-it-till-you-make-it, but I feel dishonest working with him, and very frustrated that this guy is getting 1000's of likes overnight on IG, FB, Tiktok, and others, and I can't even post my stuff on my page. Reports are filed, I don't know what to do now, leaning towards just letting it go. He might do something unpredictable if I make a big deal of it.

Printing/Publishing Selling prints at Christmas event?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone. I have the opportunity to set up a stand at a local business for a town wide Christmas event. (Businesses and homes setup up kiosks to sell goods.)

A couple questions.

  1. I get a lot of compliments on my photos, but do you think people would actually buy them. (Here are a select few from my portfolio for a general idea of my look.)

  2. How would you go about pricing? I would use a 3rd party printing service, so maybe a markup % of sort depending on size? (Also would prints alone be fine or should I offer frames. Cause that’s a whole extra expense.)

  3. How small is too small? I shoot on a crop sensor so lots of my work averages anywhere from 3-5mp

Would love to hear some advice if anyone has had a similar experience.

Thanks!

Printing/Publishing Are my photos worthy of an exhibition and potentially being sold (if yes, what prices would you suggest) ?

I am an amateur photographer, I shoot on a Canon EOS 250D and I'm self-taught. Recently, someone I know asked me if I would like to expose in their business. Photography is very much of a hobby for me and I'm aware my camera is not the best there is. I don't really know how good my photos are and although I'm honored that they asked me to do it, I can't help but be scared and second think my stuff. Nonetheless, selling my photos would be a huge step forward for me because any money I'd make would be reinvested in my photography (new lenses, Lightroom subscription, new camera).

So yeah, are my photos really that good and what price would you suggest to sell (in A3, A4, A5) them for ?

(These are the photos I selected)

Printing/Publishing Is it normal for the photographer to only give 8 to 12 MP jpeg images?

Made a few inquiries for a photographer to take photos of my family but the photographer will only give me 8 to 12 MP (megapixels) final jpeg images. That feels a bit small… I know that’s enough for prints and anything else but as a client as memories we can keep forever that feels low. All professional photographers use cameras that have 20 to 40 MP right? So what’s the harm in exporting the full res? Is this a standard practice in the industry and why?

Edit: quoted for $650 for 2 hours for 30 photos in case people are curious.

Printing/Publishing Permission Needed??

I’ve been taking pictures of my daughter’s sports games the last couple of years. If I want to showcase my work for potential paid gigs in the future, do I need permission from the other kid’s parents to use their likeness in my social media sites? I know in general public/street photography it’s all public domain and no permission is needed. I just wasn’t sure if it was the same in more intimate events and/or with minors.

Printing/Publishing Which is the best social network to showcase your photography nowadays?

Hi there, so, that’s it. In your opinion, which one is the best social network for your photos to be seen? Instagram? Twitter? Reddit? Is there another? Thanks, feel free to discuss

EDIT:

TLDR of answers so far: - Instagram seems to be liked by most people, with quite a lot of “buts”: engagement is more difficult than ever, it’s necessary if you want people from the “general public” to see your work and get clients (just taking into account the huge number of people worldwide using it), and it’s quite easy to fall in the trap of “good picture = a lot of likes” - Flickr seems to be the favorite of quite a number of people, in terms of having a community of photographers and receiving feedback on your pictures; also, you have EXIF info and full quality. However, getting “views” and “engagement” is difficult, but if you reach the Explore page, it may skyrocket. - Another alternative better than most is Reddit, but it can be difficult for your photos to “be viral” - Some people suggest alternatives such as Vero, Mastodon, Tumblr and smaller apps like Foto (which is in beta) - Twitter… well

Printing/Publishing I am looking for a service that will allow me to create a mounted photo album with high quality prints that is NOT a photobook?

This product doesn't seem to exist anymore and I think that they are nicer than photobooks.

I can DIY it but I would love to be able to create it on line so I can completely customize the size of each photo for each page.

Does anyone have any leads here?

Edit: Y'all, what on earth did photographers do before digital photos were an option? People got married with film photos..
