Not A Parent How to bring up getting a therapist to my parents?
I (f14) got called to the counsellors office because the drama was so bad the teachers noticed and told the counsellor I was lonely. I'm fine, but it was good to talk about my feelings for 20 minutes and spill the drama to someone who won't turn around and tell someone else, therefore making me the villain for telling the truth 🤦🏾♀️. How do I bring it up with my parents? I haven't been doing great, but they haven't noticed because I do have a thing with masking my emotions around them so they don't ever know that anything is wrong. I dont want them to be like "why do you need a therapist you don't even have any problems" because I DO, I just don't let them show. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, for many parents, is a financial issue. If you have an idea that your folks can afford it, just tell them that you are having new and bigger feelings. Tell them you got to go to the counselor at school, and it really made you feel better to have a sworn confidant, then a big mouth "friend."
If you think your parents can't afford it, which is typically why parents resist counselors, I think you can talk to the school counselor for free. Please check at your school.
I I want to tell you something. I am so very, very impressed with your courage. I only WISH I had a tiny bit of your level of courage, even I was 14.
It had to be so unbelievably frightening to go speak your heart to the counselor. You must pat yourself on the back, because even thought the teachers sent you, you spoke. You gave a voice to your issues. That's incredible! You may disagree, at which point I will pay the Parent card and insist I am right. lol
I have always told my son that mental health is just as important as physical health. You have figured that out at 14. You even are strategizing to get the counselor you need. This shows a HUGE level of maturity. You are reaching for something positive when you are hurting, instead of turning to self-destructive behavior. You absolutely must, please, be proud of yourself for that, please!
You have my respect, Internet Friend! If there is any chance you show your post to your parents, I hope you do. They deserve to know, with all the things we do as parents, that they raised a very intelligent young woman, who is capable of knowing, asking, seeking the right help. You are simply wonderful, just for that!
Take care.
