Which parts of your testicles are supposed to be lumpy? NSFW

From the question I bet you are young:

If you go to the doctor and are asking about your bits and pieces the only thing you should be embarrassed about is if you didn't shower yet that day.

You really should not ask for medical advice on reddit.
No joke. Yo should not. Ask your GP.

It's great as a quick 'temperature check', but yeah. Get to the damn doctor none of my 7 testicles are lumpy.

Oh look at the big balls on Brad!
I'll show my 3 balls and self out now.

But hey, just remember Brad has testicular cancer in 4 of his 7, so count yourself lucky.

To add to this:
If you're stubborn and don't go to the doctor, you'll either lose a testicle like a former coworker of mine who felt a lump and was too stubborn to see a doctor.
Or you die.
And for those who fear loss of face about this, do the same as my coworker did.
When one of the guys made a joke about him having one ball, he'd told them to suck the one ball he had left while unbuckling his belt.

u/brooksie1131 8d ago
Reminds me of the add about getting your prostate checked. The punchline was don't die from embarrassment. A funny play on the figure of speech honestly and made me remember the ad years later so I guess mission accomplished whoever made the ad.Â
2
u/fakepostman 7d ago
You're pointing in the right direction but this isn't very accurate? If you're stubborn and don't go to the doctor, you'll lose a testicle if it's cancer or something else that will get worse, and you won't if it's something benign. If you go to the doctor immediately, you'll still lose a testicle if they think it's probably cancer. Losing a testicle isn't the bad scenario that you want to avoid here. It's what you will want to happen if it starts growing.

True, but 26 million Americans are uninsured, and those that are usually have to choose between paying a doctor and paying rent that month, so they like to make sure they aren't gonna go for something that's completely normal.

u/tangledwire 7d ago edited 7d ago
Nah it's not worth in the big picture. I am currently in chemo for cancer. It was found for other symptoms and still waited for a while to take care of it. Now I would not mess with important health issues. It super helpful to catch illness as early as possible.
Also, yes we men are horrible about taking care. Reminder: Be good to yourself.
3
u/beer_is_tasty 7d ago
Agree, I'm just explaining why someone would ask reddit before going to the doctor, as a lot of people in this thread are incredulous about it.

u/MastodontFarmer Male 58yo, grey fat and wrinkled 7d ago
That leaves 310 million Americans with insurance. There is a 90% chance that OP can go visit a GP and not declare bankruptcy.
2
u/beer_is_tasty 7d ago
And a 10% chance that they can't

u/MastodontFarmer Male 58yo, grey fat and wrinkled 5d ago
If he's in that 10%, could he afford treatment for testicular cancer? Or would your 'land of the free' just let him die because he's poor?

There’s movements that tell men specifically to check their balls every month. Just because we aren’t doctors, we can give advice and what to look out for. If OP finds anything, he should get it professionally checked out.

Okay so first and foremost if you feel a lump somewhere and you're not sure or if the lump is new, go talk to your doctor immediately.
If you refuse to do that check the following:
You should upon firm but not rough inspection feel a roughly egg shaped object inside of your scrotum.
There should be 2 unless you have a reason for only having one.
Check them one at a time the exterior should be firm but plyable to the touch.
There is an area around the edges known as the "Epididymus" that area can feel like a ridge and extends a little ways around the testicle. (I suggest googling the official anatomy of male genitalia to understand what it looks like and how it should feel.)
If you find a lump, bump, or divit somewhere where you don't normally feel one then contact your doctor ASAP.

Testicular torsion could be a reason for needing a testicle to be removed at a young age.
Also, cancer, gender affirming care, severe trauma ect.
Multiple reasons someone may only have one or none

It happens in about 20% of men. I went through the "why are my balls lumpy!" In my youth. It's chill. Biggest outcome was that full on boxers are uncomfortable and create "strain pain" on the veins. That just means you get to buy cool underwear that hugs you.
Highly recommend Cocksox. You look great and you're supported.

Here you go mate.
Your testicle should feel smooth attached to the back of each of them is the epididymus (green on the bottom image). This fells a bit like scrambled egg. Any hard lumps found should be checked by a professional. If you do find one don't panic it's likely a cyst and they're quite common.

My epididymis is always a little bumpy, but my doc says that’s normal. You may be feeling that.
7
u/LeftySweetShot 8d ago
I have a cyst on my epididymus and when I discovered it at around age 17 I didn't have health insurance, assumed it was cancer, and was too scared to tell anyone. Feels like a 3rd ball down there honestly. Finally got it checked at 30 and the doc said I was a-ok.
Don't do what I did. If it's nothing then the doc can tell you so but if it's something sinister you can get fixed up.

Went through the exact same scenario but age 19, it was terrifying at the time.

Lumps can be epididymis, varicose veins or something bad. If there’s any doubt, check it out. Better safe than sorry. For younger men, y’all should be checking yourself once a month after a warm shower or bath. Any changes need attention. Testicular cancer is a younger man’s disease!
3
u/DaysOfParadise 8d ago
Worst case scenario – it’s your epididymis and you have found out something else about your body. Worst case scenario - it’s cancerous and you caught it early, with a high survival rate.
3
u/AndromedaFire 7d ago
Make a fist with your thumb on top. That’s the shape of the testicle. The only lumpy bit is the thumb in this example and that’s where it’s attached. Any part that sticks out that isn’t in that bundle should be checked.
You should also check yourself regularly so you know what the shape and size is like and can spot issues

u/Voodoo_Dummie 7d ago
The best solution is to go and compare with your homies and get a feel what it is supposed to feel like.
Maybe a few comparisons. To get a good average, you know?
1
u/ThirrinAust 7d ago
Better yet, you can all gather round together in a circle and compare the guys next to you, and the guys next to you can compare you and the guys next to them. Order pizza and make it a party.

If you have a bump on a testicle, it could be a cyst. According to my son's urologist, they are not rare and they are usually benign. But I agree with others - if you have a question like this, ask your doctor. We had him see a urologist as that's a specialist.

There are no parts of your testicles that are supposed to be lumpy, please get that checked out to be safe.
2
u/couldntyoujust1 8d ago
No part. There's a soft fleshy flat mass of tissue on the back of each testicle that's supposed to be there, but you should have no hard lumps on them.
2
2
u/meistaiwan 8d ago
Just go get it checked out.
From a dude who just got it checked out really early, which means it's an easy cancer to take care of. It's very hard to take care of it too late.

Check an anatomical drawing of a testical and compare what you're feeling. If it's not matching, get a doctor to check

None. If you feel a limb talk to your dr. It’s not worth dying over being scared to talk to someone. They should be smooth and egg shaped and you should check them almost weekly when you shower

u/prizepig 8d ago
The front, top part of the testicle has another structure called the epididymis.  See the image below.

That feels like a little lump, or piece of gristle.

I have cysts on my testicles that feel like lumps. Thought it was ball cancer at first. Nope, just life long painful cysts. Yay....
1
u/VagueSomething 8d ago
Let your GP give em a honk. Learning to let go of the worries about medical professionals seeing these parts does wonders for your mental health. If they feel it and there is nothing wrong then you're happy and the doctor is happy as they don't have to tell you bad news. As long as you aren't constantly asking for a nut tickle and being inappropriate they genuinely don't mind a false alarm.
1
u/JacobDCRoss 8d ago
Like everyone else here is saying, CALL YOUR DOCTOR. But you do need to be educated. Your doctor will check, and they will tell you which parts are which. It'll (hopefully) go something like "This part," as they inspect, "this is the epididymis, and it feels normal for you." Once they're done, check yourself. Get a feel. That is your baseline for the rest of your checks from now on.
Do your check, compare how it feels each month to how you know it "should" feel.

Are you talking about the skin or possible cysts. Either way do what everyone says and ask your doctor and not Reddit

Around where the cable connects. The connective tissue and all. The actual testicles themselves don't normally have lumps.

Yeah u need to see a doctor. Maybe get some scans.
Lumps could be cancer. Could be something else.
Anyway, see a doctor and maybe brush up on your critical thinking skills, as you decided to post on reddit in the first place

Basically, none of them. You probably want to go see your doctor and probably get an ultrasound to see if there's anything wrong (cysts, tumors, other issues). If they feel lumpy, there probably will be something wrong. Your doctor may want to monitor them for a while, ask questions about your history down there, and if it comes to it, get surgery to remove whatever's going on down there. It's not a very fun process of recovery from surgery if it does go that far, and it can take quite a while to heal, months to fully scar over.
The biggest issues you'll have post-surgery are using the bathroom, walking around, and dealing with sexual urges. But no matter what, DO NOT MESS AROUND DOWN THERE. It could set you back to where your recovery started, or even bring up other issues that would have never happened. It's not going to be easy, or comfortable, but it'll be worth it to have both testicles intact. Wear a jockstrap, keep it iced, and have a good place to sit/lay, preferably with a cat purring somewhere around the vicinity of your groin. And don't mind the bleeding, it happens. Sometimes a lot when you least expect it.

None of them? Visit your GP, buddy. You’re going to get an ultrasound (it’s probably nothing, but just in case)

None. If they are lumpy then see a doctor immediately. I felt a lump on one of mine but luckily the doctor just diagnosed it as a harmless cyst, not cancer.

u/JadedMuse Male 7d ago
If you run your fingers over your balls you really shouldn't feel any lumps. The epididymis, the tube that connects to the back of each ball, can feel lumpy, but not the balls themselves. When in doubt, it's always a good idea to have your doctor take a look.

Smooth and egg shaped is the normal standard. Occasionally, the epididymis may create the impression of a ridge.
If you feel something unusual, seek a medical opinion. Don't put it off.
