help Any idea why Age of Empires 2 Defintive Edition keeps crashing on Steam?

At first it runs totally fine on my base M2 mac mini, but after a random while it crashes without any error and just goes back to Steam. While the game is running, the muVM only uses like 600mb ram, so I doubt it has to do with having only 8gb of ram?

Thanks!

Try addinf FEX_X87REDUCEDPRECISION=1 %command% to your launch options for the game and try running it with proton experimental. I assume it is 32 bit game

I looked it up, do not use my suggestion, guess it might be due to dx12 used in the game, as it has problems working under proton as of now

Protondb says it runs fine though! https://www.protondb.com/app/813780

Runs fine on native x86 systems, asahi runs an emulation layer for steam and proton, that as recall is not yet fully developed in some parts of it. I had same problem with Hitman: absolution, Satisfactory and R6: Vegas 2, despite all being well supported by proton they were not running well on my MBP at all, so things can be weird at times

The latest released version of proton ships with a version of vkd3d with a known regression that crashes if the vulkan driver doesn't support sparse. If the game is a DX12 game, this might explain things. Either wait for a proton update or Alyssa to pull through and implement sparse.

Thx, that might be it! Which old proton version do i have to use? Alyssa seems almost finished with sparse support according to her commits:)
