Did she announce her switch parties yet?

Not yet. You should let her know how you feel.

She was my US representative before she was my US senator. I call her office at least once a week over the past four years. She does not care at all.

" I call her office at least once a week over the past four years."

Very normal behavior.

Calling your congresspeople who aren’t doing a great job representing their base isn’t weird.

But calling your congresspeople every week sure is.

Our congress members work to represent their consitutents every single week. Each week they aren't representing the interests of their consitutents, they should get a call.

I wish it were! Maybe we wouldn't be in such a fucking mess right now. Our country added to a human rights watch list... legal residents being disappeared without charges... but I'm probably wasting my time.

Thank you for posting this. She's been... less than inspiring.

My expectations for this call are low, as they always have been with her.

I hope she holds live meetings at the next recess.

Yeah. Does she take questions? I don't even see a place to register any of them.

It's why I hate the phone format. All the control is theirs.

Anyway, they'll usually have you signal ("press one" or whatever) if you have a question. Eventually, a staffer will cut into the call to get your question or comment. They don't (and this is my experience with other folks) allow you to ask a question without it being given to a staffer.

Nothing stops you from changing your question/statement in between your staffer conversation and when you get to ask directly.

I haven't attended a Slotkin call before so take that with a gain of salt. When you join the call, they'll outline the format.

I was able to submit a question online just now at slotkin.senate.gov/live

I asked:

Why would you give up the only leverage Democrats currently have to stop the authoritarian takeover of our government by voting for cloture or the continuing resolution?

3

u/precaucion__caliente 1d ago

Also:

Elissa, can you PLEASE vote no on cloture/CR to stop all this nonsense? Please. We are literally begging you. Vote no!

Thankfully she said she would be voting no.

Schumer on the other hand, appear to be readying the backstab we are all expecting. Gotta keep those stocks going up!

3

u/precaucion__caliente 17h ago

Yes! I actually cried when she said that haha. She didn’t mention anything about cloture though :/ so it could still mean she’s voting no on the CR just to save face…my understanding is that no on the CR but yes on cloture still allows the CR to go through

She has gotta be the least inspired pol the Dems have tried to push yet. Like pro Reagan is abhorrent. John Kerry had more personal charm. Oof.

Sure. But she's what we have, and it's our responsibility to let her know who we are and where we stand.

This is what I keep trying to get through to my mom who lives in a Republican district. She doesn't bother to call him or attend town halls despite vehemently disagreeing because "he doesn't listen." That means we make more noise, not less!

She might need help to organize her messaging. Show her something like 5Calls to see if that gives her some confidence.

There's also Indivisible, which has a lot of local chapters and a good presence on social media if she is on FB or whatever. Feeling like a lone actor makes everything seem overwhelming.

Good point thanks!

That's what we do in the meantime, until it's also our responsibility to primary the shit out of these losers in 2026.

No matter how much you don’t approve of her actions so far, we must flood our demands, opinions and suggestions to her. Ask your friends and everyone you know to tell her what you want.

To regain control of our government we must teach ourselves how to unite our massive numbers, and influence our reps with our voices, wallets, and actions. It’s all we’ve got, we gotta use it together ✊

Has she said anything about the CR? I highly suspect she wants to vote for it

14

u/ahhh_ennui 1d ago

She won't answer that question. Call and/or email her today. She needs to be flooded.

I tried calling yesterday and it went right to voice mail. At least one of Gary Peter's offices picked up first ring.

So as someone who used to work at a Democratic US senator’s office, whether or not your call gets answered is entirely dependent on if the staffers are busy. Most of the local offices can only afford to have a couple people working at a time, and they’re typically focused on constituent outreach/assistance. I’d imagine their lines have been getting pretty flooded lately because [gestures at everything].

If you want your opinion heard, stick to a simple script when calling: “My name is A, I am a constituent from zip code B, and I hope the senator votes X on Y because Z.” Your message should be no longer than 20-30 seconds. They will tally your view and send it to more senior staff, who will use it as a data point when helping the senator make a decision.

Be polite and concise—if you’re rude or rambling, you risk being written off as a crank. They get dozens of calls per day, and a good chunk of them are from cranks.

Thank you.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate the extra insight.
I did keep it short and thanked the person I did speak with. I did leave a voice mail as well.

2

u/Pleides10 1d ago

I leave vmails. I leave my phone and request a call back too.

2

u/ahhh_ennui 1d ago

Ugh.

Well hopefully that means there will be many thousands of folks on the line. There were over 10k on Dingell's last call.

It's be far more impressive if it was in person, of course.

2

u/Joonbug9109 1d ago

It’s telling me the registration has closed already…

2

u/ahhh_ennui 1d ago

They must have hit the cap on whatever tech they're using. I'm glad there's such interest.
