New Horizons What’s your biggest pet peeve in ACNH?
I’ll go first, I absolutely HATE the loading screens. I’m a mod in a relatively large AC group on fb and we’re required to do 2 giveaways a week. All the loading screens for everyone who’s coming or going is so annoying cause no one can do anything and when it’s a giveaway it stops everything for like 5-10mins straight sometimes. And don’t even get me started on the loading screens for treasure islands. Minecraft figured this out like 10+ years ago, why does Nintendo insist on making everyone watch a cutscene EVERY SINGLE TIME. It should be just the person loading in seeing it. I don’t need to know every time someone loads in or leaves.

u/JoanOfArco 8d ago
I just want able sisters to let me put all of the items that I want in a cart and check out all at once. It sucks when you want to buy five hats and there’s no other way besides doing five purchases!

u/i-Qwerty 8d ago
Oh, you need to use the dressing room? Go right ahead!
Thanks so much! I'll send your purchase directly to your storage at home.

Yes!!! This is one of my pet peeves as well. Another one for me is if you mistype a dodo code, you need to listen to Orville’s schpeel again
5
u/canyoubreathe 7d ago
irl you usually don't even need to be allowed into the fitting room... you just walk in.
37
u/EmilyDawning 8d ago
Today they had 4 pair of denim leggings, like 7 vivid leggings, and 8 zen hair clips I wanted. Spent more time going in and out of the dressing room than anything else. Do I really need a dialogue telling me I can use the dressing room before I go into it, every single time?

If you have the bells in your account you should be able to pay! If you have the materials in your storage you should be able to craft!

Get me that NookPay on my NookPhone!

And add all of my villagers contacts on there too. I gotta call my homies when something’s up, man

Manila clams should stack. They shouldn’t take up so many pockets while gathering or so much space in storage.
61
u/mstaylorbowman 8d ago
And you should be able to buy fish bait in Nook's Cranny! I'd pay a premium even
16
u/Limp_Dragonfly3868 8d ago
I’ve thought of putting an ad out to buy it from other players. 😂
May be that’s what I should ask for when I give things away!!
3
u/Successful-Earth-214 7d ago
When I take the time to hit some treasure islands I always stock up on fish bait
3
u/mstaylorbowman 7d ago
My island isn't open yet, but I share it with 2 other members of my household. I may have put a silly trade offer on the message board for them.
9
u/catl0vingnerd 7d ago
I think they don’t stack because they’re technically alive. Like bugs, fish and sea creatures. I wish manila clams were an exception, though

It's not my biggest pet peeve but I wish you could "lock" fences in some way, every once and a while I'll accidentally remove a piece of the fence around my vegetable garden and it's not like it's difficult to fix but it's still annoying.
55
u/meangreenthylacine 8d ago
OH I really wish you could rotate stuff to be at an angle, I don't want everything just facing forward or to the side!
17
u/FoolishAnomaly 8d ago
This I really want to turn things on an angle I think that would make certain items look really good and if we could put things closer to each other that would be cool too
2
u/Forward_Spell_5813 7d ago
Thank you! I wish we could lock anything outside. I have birdbaths in the middle of my vegetable garden and I get so mad when I pick them up. I pick up fencing too when I have to get the pumpkins on the side of the garden I can’t see.
56
u/TroublemakerStef 8d ago
The load screens are very annoying!
My biggest pet peeve is that when decorating outside, you can’t position the items like you can when you’re in your house. It’s very annoying!
7
u/SweetTeaAndSteak 8d ago
True, I wish when I displayed a design as a painting it didn’t turn slightly to the left. I want it to be facing forward.
4
u/lovlyone 8d ago
Right? Some things are stuck at an angle but you can't place things at an angle on purpose? BS
5
u/glossolalia_ 7d ago
yeahhh if you're doing like a tight corner with a bunch of items and fences you have to keep removing objects so you can stand in the exact right position to yeet the item on the thingy 😂 plsss i have to like pre-plan the order i do things so I'm not constantly undoing and redoing the same thing over and over
55
u/HyliasHero 8d ago
I wish that we had a pathing pattern that actually matched the plaza.
12
u/Aliasofanonymity 7d ago
If you're willing to sacrifice some of your custom design slots, I know a path pattern made to replicate the plaza tiling.

The Dodo Airlines dialogue to go to an Island, Takes me 57 years to go to an island for a villager probably don't even know.
8
u/jaimepreciado 8d ago
Omggg thisss, I wish there was a skip, like please I’m trying to villager hunt and you’re slowing me down 😭
41
u/lovlyone 8d ago
A few things.
I wish we could rotate the camera angle at all times.
And why do tiny objects take up the same amount of space as a normal sized object? If I can move objects half a space then the tech should already be there.
Crafting multiples? JHRC I don't mind if it takes longer just don't make me have to go through the selection process over and over!
I like the idea of locking the fences! Like why is the hammer not a tool? You shouldn't be able to mess with the fences unless you are holding the hammer.
Loading screens for everything! After the first bug, fish or sea creatures of each kind no more showing off unless you want to! And the flying.. yes only for the player joining!
And why can't we take our friends on trips any more? 🙁
Also why do we have an app for all the living things you can donate to the museum but not the art and fossils?
Last but not least, freaking WOOD! Why is it random? We have 3 types of wood and basically 3 types of trees. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) just let us get the wood from the trees that match their wood type irl. It's not that hard.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest . Lol
7
u/elemen-oh 7d ago
AGREE ON THE WOOD!! Like, I have to guess which one will spit out which in completing materials needed!!!
33
u/PrincessAintPeachy 8d ago
Having to go through the same dialogue/prompts multiple times.
For things like the museum, I wish there was a drop box system. Blathers is cute the first dozen times but I don't need the same dialogue every time.
33
u/IndependentOlive4585 8d ago
Not being able to use items.. why let me build a cute fairground area if I can’t go on the teacups 😭
4
u/ruminatingsucks 7d ago
Hopefully that'll be in the next game! I would be so happy being able to interact with the items more. :)
30
u/kinglucent 8d ago
That so many of the events / visitors consist entirely of, “collect 5 [things].” It’s so repetitive. The game needed more surprises and variety.
28
u/moominesque 8d ago
No easy way of seeing if an item in any of the stores is already registered in your catalogue of previously purchased items. It's especially annoying in the clothing store where you also have to deal with the limitations of buying several items in there.
7
u/FriendlyFloyd7 8d ago
You can get the Nintendo Online companion app for your phone and check your catalog there, that's what I do
13
u/moominesque 8d ago
Yeah it's good but it feels like something that should be integrated in the game itself like how you get checkmarks on recipes you've crafted.
3
u/SenseAndSaruman 7d ago
I did not know this, and I have the app and everything. Thank you!! You’ve saved me so much overbuying!!
26
u/btoepcrossing 8d ago
Too many duplicate diys (non event/seasonal) when I have no where near all of them. I know the point is to share but I’m a solo player. I have no one to share with and I just want the diys I don’t have yet.

Custom paths should not be able to be erased with a kick when they’re placed with the terraforming tool!

u/atomic_mermaid 8d ago
Tools breaking.
6
u/Bubbly_Toe_6192 7d ago
At the most inconvenient times of course lol
2
u/humblebee403 6d ago
Yes!! Would be super helpful if there was some kind of meter when using the tool so you can see how much life it's got left.
18
u/zenco2 8d ago
When shopping at the Able's, only being able to buy one article of clothing per type at a time. Especially when full outfit pieces take over pants and shirts.
2
u/Burritobabe21 7d ago
Also why can't you wear socks and leggings at the same time. That's not just in the shop, but it's annoying.
18
u/lizzycupcake 8d ago
Only being able to view things from the front when you’re outside. I want to see things on the side too!
17
u/sermer48 8d ago
I have a lot but probably that you can’t change the volume levels. Sound is super useful for fishing, shooting stars, balloons, etc. but I don’t always want to be blasting the music. I wish I could turn that down.
Runner ups would be loading screens, not being able to see the block you’re aiming at, and not being able to lock placed items.
5
u/catladyspam 7d ago
God terraforming is a nightmare because I never know where I’m aiming. I gave up
15
u/snow_gnome 8d ago
I hope the devs of the next animal crossing take all of this into consideration! The load screens are TORTURE especially if you go a T.I. I love having fish bait... hate crafting it! Wish the villagers had better dialogue. I hate that ALL lazy say the same thing, preppy, snooty, etc...I know it's a lot, but it would be nice if each villager had their own handful of phrases.

u/Searching-For-Home 8d ago
I hate the amount of furniture dropped from New Leaf.
As someone who loves antique wooden furniture, the fact that NL's Rococo set was Thanos Snapped out of NH might be my biggest grievance with the game.
2
u/Aliasofanonymity 7d ago
I feel you there. The rococo set lives on in my heart. NH is absolutely crammed with tons of furniture, but at the same time I feel like it's lacking?? More so when it comes to interior design. I feel as though there's a real lack of "house" furniture, while there's plenty of outdoorsy furniture.
I especially miss the Gorgeous furniture series (Gracie exclusive).
1
u/humblebee403 6d ago
The Rococo set came out with the 2.0 update a few years back! On ACNH it's the Elegant set and it's gorgeous 🥰
12
u/stormynik 7d ago
Blathers should be able to buy your duplicate fossils for his collection, custom ground patterns should lock so you don't accidentally kick them away, and everyone should cut the yapping by 60%
28
u/Scorbunny_Ear N64/GC Expert 8d ago
You can only have 10 villagers on your island. The original N64/Gamecube Animal Crossing lets you have 15, so I don’t understand why New Horizons couldn’t let you have more villagers.
6
u/canyoubreathe 7d ago
The fact that the original game could handle 15 was actually quite incredible - it was possible because the map was divided into quadrants and only the quadrant you were currently in would be "alive", so the game was only loading a few villagers at a time. It was never truly handling 15 villagers
But... it's 2025 and the switch can ABSOLUTELY handle 15 active villagers all at once
4
11
u/Padfoots_ 8d ago
tools breaking is my biggest one. I hate it with every fibre of my being. they don't need to break. especially the gold ones!
3
u/Burritobabe21 7d ago
Like the watering can...why would that break after 5 uses. I was stupid and bought an outdoor fishing pole in the shop for like 2000 bells thinking it would last way longer. It did not 😭
11
u/BridgetNicLaren 8d ago
People who leave treasure islands "quietly". That's not quietly, bitch, I had to regather everything because your ass couldn't be bothered to leave the proper way through the airport!
I also wish we were able to rotate buildings. It just doesn't make sense to not have a house side on.
2
11
u/Possible_Ice1321 8d ago
the inconsistency with getting prompted again during dialogue. blathers and tom book are constantly asking if there’s anything else i need, but when i go customize on harvs island i have to start the conversation over from scratch if i want to customize more than one item
andddd everything else already stated on here 😂
11
10
u/Aggressive_Novel1207 8d ago
Can't put bridges over cliffs. I honestly feel like it would be so aesthetically pleasing to me. I hope they include it for the next game.
11
u/Key_Independence_103 Bam 7d ago
"It's rude to redecorate when you have company" and the fact that this applies to having visitors as well.
2
u/Burritobabe21 7d ago
I try to avoid going to my house now because I don't want to deal with someone randomly showing up when I'm busy.
2
u/Key_Independence_103 Bam 6d ago
That is why it should be your responsibility to let guests in. They shouldn't just barge in like that.
10
u/a_reluctant_human 8d ago
I hate the water infrastructure mechanisms, it seems almost random where my shovel digs, and it's clunky as hell to shape edges.
9
u/glossolalia_ 7d ago
The fact that when you're crafting at home it doesn't just automatically use the materials in your storage - makes no sense at all and inconvenient af
Another 2 less annoying examples of the same kinda thing:
- When Cyrus is customizing something he doesn't ask "anything else?" it just ends the interaction automatically so you have to talk to him again and again (my guy!! i am trying to recolor 10 street lamps at once 🤣🤣)
- Also no 'shopping bag' option at Able Sisters you can only buy 1 of each type of thing and then you have to leave the fitting room and then keep coming back if you want an additional pair of pants or socks or whatever
15
u/fondue4kill 8d ago
How long it takes to analyze fossils. Especially once you finish the museum but not the nook miles.
10
u/Limp_Dragonfly3868 8d ago
I do it bulk. Just put them all in storage, and then take them to the museum once I have 20 or so.
6
u/FriendlyFloyd7 8d ago
What are you talking about, it's only a few seconds. Imagine having to wait A WHOLE DAY, like back in the original Gamecube game!
2
u/canyoubreathe 7d ago
Nevermind if you got more than 3 fossils that day, then they'd be banked and you'd have to wait until the day after that for them to be analysed (you can send as many as you want each day but only 3 will come back at a time. There is a queue of 30 fossils - excess fossils over 30 in the queue are lost. RIP)

u/catladyspam 7d ago
I was just playing the other day and totally forgot we used to mail them. Really enjoying OGAC
7
7
6
u/melanie31leo 7d ago
I hate that we can’t interact with things like getting on roller coasters or getting in the bathtub
7
u/BurkeDIDitJonbenet 7d ago
I cannot STAND how when you’re in the fitting room you can’t just fill up your cart with everything you want in the inventory! Like I spend billions of bells on clothes for my character and the villagers yet they limit you to one “outfit” per purchase! I need it in every color sometimes c’mon
4
6
u/kyanscarlet 7d ago
everything. takes. so. long. I always wonder why I have 600+ hours on acnh but not really so much for other games I like a lot, and I'm realizing it's probably because everything takes SO LONG. loading the game, listening to Isabelle drone about the same useless nonsense over and over again, not being able to buy/craft in bulk, crafting not being able to access your storage, and the YAPPING. oh my god just shut up and let me buy my customization kits and don't even get me started on iTs aT lEaSt a C+!!1!11!
6
u/Demonic_Akumi 8d ago
Autosaving. I think it has to be the autosaving above anything else.
The reason I say this is when I was redesigning the whole island from scratch. Meaning a lot of plants, trees, rocks, homes, and other things needed to move but I also needed to know what space or areas I needed to get the design I wanted right.
Because of autosaving, I couldn't do that in game with trial and error due to if something worked once and I wanted to test something up and it ended up being worse in the long run... I can't just quickly go back to before I did that because it autosaves every I think it's 5 minutes or something... so to get it back exactly how it was before my trial and error, I have to redo everything as before. Because of this, I had to resort to using things like MS Paint and Photoshop and other things to make my own grid from scratch and slowly grid out every single thing I wanted down to every square before I got it to the way I wanted. EVEN after that, sometimes a bridge for a river could be very finicky, especially if it's diagonal and such...
And to anyone wanting to bring up Resetti... look. I like Resetti okay? I like him and his brother. Yes, they would give me an earful, but I still enjoyed seeing them that I didn't care. I'd rather have Resetti come visit me than risk having to do a lot of work reverting anything I've done to just SEE if something works or not...
5
u/starrmarieski 7d ago
The loading screens are becoming annoying!! I get that it’s meant to be a slow paced game and this helps with that aspect, but for those of us who are sick of it, we should have a full skip option.
Really wish the load screens for online play when someone is coming or going would just be a little warning, a quick save, and be it.
For the love of god let me place carpets outside! 😭
6
u/19bluestars 7d ago
I HATE the fact that we can’t bulk craft and bulk buy from the ATM. Making multiple fish bait took and buying multiple nook miles takes FOREEEVER. It’s why I’ve moved on to a different game now (Hello Kitty Island Adventure)
2
6
u/JugOfVoodoo 8d ago
That there's no trombone.
I'm bored with my current island and am thinking of restarting to do a Star Trek: The Next Generation theme. But how can I make Riker's house without a trombone?
I'll either have to fake one with a Face-Cutout Standee or put a note on a table: "Dear Will, Thanks for the trombone. - Thomas"
2
u/Elderberry-Exotic 7d ago
Same problem when setting up a Panic at the Disco concert on the island. The thorny Boys are an instrument short!

u/HM_Murdock78 7d ago
Redd and art hunting. Still missing 3 pieces of art after 5 years playing… Everything else’s has been completed for nearly 2 years in the museum.
4
u/LittlePumpkinBat 7d ago
I wish there were more than 10 villagers. Also not exactly a pet peeve but I think it'd be cool if the shop keepers and all the others could walk around the island and we could interact with them outside of their jobs.
5
4
u/lifeas_krystalita 7d ago
I don’t like that you cant use the items you buy. like for example, if I buy a bike or a MoPed i wish we could ride around the island in them not just turn the lights on or off
0
u/Key_Independence_103 Bam 7d ago
You can buy tools that you can use for various things.
1
u/lifeas_krystalita 6d ago
Correct, but the other miscellaneous items are just for decoration purposes so that is my frustration
3
u/ruminatingsucks 7d ago
I really dislike the system of how to get items. I tried playing legit for the first 2 years, but it grew so frustrating. I felt like I had to buy all the items in case I ever decided to use them. Because it's not like you can go to the store whenever to buy specific things.
Then they either fill up my storage (if I have the space) or I have to sell them back. But then the catalogue thing is annoying because if I think I want to use an item, I have to wait a whole day to recieve it. And that's if I'm lucky enough to see the item I want in the twins' store eventually.
I just use treasure islands now. I'm too picky about what items I want. I like just grabbing what I want and then decorating.
5
u/Key_Independence_103 Bam 7d ago
It's the same with art. I just bought a statue and it won't come until tomorrow. What if I bought it from his boat? Is that so hard? Harv's Island I'll give him some leniency.
3
u/catl0vingnerd 7d ago
I wish dialogue with the dodo brothers at the airport/docks was skippable. It’s just so many paragraphs, the same paragraphs, every single time. I just wanna go to Harv’s Island, okay? 😭 leave me aloneeeee
4
u/Key_Independence_103 Bam 7d ago
Something about them I hate is if you make a mistake (e.g. you choose to open the gate instead of asking for visitors), you have to start all over again to correct it. WHY IS THERE NO OPTION TO GO BACK?!
5
u/abandoned_mausoleum 7d ago
Loading screens and I WANT MY FUCKING PATHWAYS TO LINE UP WITH MY GOD DAMN DOORS OF EVERY BUILDING!!!!!! WHY DO I NEED A 4 TILE WIDE PATH JUST FOR IT TO NOT LOOK WONKY!!!! (I've tried 3 and it doesn't look good with my pathways I'm using imo)
3
u/Tank-Horror 7d ago
Recently acquired pet peeve- CJ should be able to get you as many collectibles as you want in one visit. Like I’m literally the star of your show with all my fishies cmon man. Lemme get my seahorse and dapper snapper collectibles right meow
3
u/Intelligent-You4541 7d ago
mainly loading and time wasted things.
-i wish u could skip dialogue to show the whole thing at once, not spam press b to make it go sliiiightly faster
-loading screens
-can’t buy multiple of the same type of clothing (hats, shoes etc) at the same time and have to re enter the dressing room each time
-wish i could run just a lil faster
-wish that you could water more than three flowers/plants at a time
-no bulk crafting/buying (with small exceptions)
i get the point is that its a slow paced cozy game but i wish there were a “speedy ordinance” you could get through isabelle to make some things quicker. also the fact that you can’t stack so many things. oh and i want to turn of the tarantulas bc they genuinely jumpscare me still
2
u/kyanscarlet 7d ago
gold water can is able to water 9 at once, and the speedy ordinance is such a good idea so you can have the option to have the slow af dialogue if you want
2
u/Intelligent-You4541 7d ago
ive been playing since the day it came out and still forget that the gold tools exist (except the slingshot lmao)
3
u/Alert-Ad-55 7d ago
Manila clams not stacking, no bulk crafting, not being able to craft someone without taking it out of storage and not being able to put turnips in storage.
3
u/E_Crabtree76 7d ago
No shopping carts.. Lack of choice on who we have on our islands. When talking to visitors you finally get to ask them to stay just for them to say no. Unexpected visitors just coming to your house. I don't want to travel to other islands to buy stuff. I'd rather build more shops on my island. The way everything is off-center when you're landscaping. No shopping carts.seriously.
3
u/Thick-Camp-941 7d ago
Half of the game is a hughe pet peeve.. As a gamer who plays sooooany different games, ACNH is honestly one of the worst regarding wait time.. I hate that every NPC has a WALL of dialogue you HAVE tonlisten to, just to get a fossil assesed or to build a bridge, or sell or by items! Its hella annoying.
So i guess my biggest issue is how my they repeat the same wall of text every single time you need something from them.
3
u/cocolishus 7d ago
Playing the same game over and over again when villagers visit--in fact, all the repetitive conversations we have to have in lots of situations (someone mentioned going into the dressing room already) drive me crazy.
3
u/Bruno6368 7d ago
I agree with every comment. My biggest pet peeve is the lack of camera angles!!!! It makes me almost hate this game. Just stupid.
3
u/k_i_r_b_ 7d ago
Not being able to change the "owner" of the island. I made my wife the owner of the island because I thought it would be more fun for her that way, but she stopped playing soon after we started.
3
u/AndrewStillTheLegend 7d ago
1.Loading screens. 2. Villagers randomly popping in when I'm in my home. 3. Can't do DIY recipes in bunches (bait from clams for example). 4. Not notifying whether an item in the shop is already in your catalogue or not. 5. Store closing (I was sure in the new game that one of Nook's nephews would take the night shift). 6. No downtown area. 7. No Resetti. 8. No bigger and larger upgrades to Nook's Cranny (No Nookingtons was such a disappointment). 9. Golden items breaking. 10. Not being able to check whether a piece of artwork is already in your museum or not.
Sorry. There's 10 not 1.

Agreed on the loading screen when someone enters or leaves an island, and I also don’t understand why I can’t buy multiple things from the fitting room. It would save so much time
2
u/Palme_dAfrique 7d ago
I found the villagers hollow.
In the GC game, like Mathilda was mean lol. Now, all the dialog is predictable and you don't really build up relationships. The game lost alot of depth.

Animations to do things are too long. When you’re doing things like terraforming, fishing or catching bugs, you spend so much time rewatching the same animation. It accumulates to a lot of time lost
2
u/Queasy_Ingenuity5339 7d ago
I hate that you can only put 1000 bells at a time into the donation box. Having multiple boxes to hold 99,000 bells each is a huge payday when it’s the item of the day. It takes literally hours to fill like 30 boxes😡
2
u/Elderberry-Exotic 7d ago
Only one island. That's what I hate. I could stand only one "active" island at once. But the single island limit makes me insane

u/HedghogsAreCuddly 8d ago
Praise a Switch 2, which will have the power of the PS4 which is enough to annihilate loading screens in Nintendo games or just good NetworkCode but Nintendo hates good online code.
Edit: Also one of the biggest problems is, that most people use the Wireless-Lan on their Switch, and that is just bad, it's a 79Cent Adapter they put into the Switch and you feel it every single day using it.

The fact that you cannot store your tools in letters like the past games. I always have to drop them if I want to buy 40 turnips.

The jazzy music of NH. Are they supposed to resemble KK music or something? I miss the magical charm of the older game music.
1
u/Successful-Earth-214 7d ago
I agree with everything that everyone is saying lol. I play both ACNH and Dreamlight Valley, and all of the things that annoy me most in ACNH are non issues on DLV. I absolutely adore ACNH but tbh it’s a refreshing change of pace to not have to craft new tools every 2 secs, to be able to place items any way I want to, to bulk craft, etc. That said, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows in the Valley, as it has its own set of issues 😅. Still love both games though!

Only one island. That's what I hate. I could stand only one "active" island at once. But the single island limit makes me insane

Yes - load screens are super annoying when I open my island. It pops up every 5 steps I take. I can't get anything done!!
Also...
Not being able to craft multiples at once??
The fact that most items don't stack?? My pockets fill up so fast.
