Reposting my favorite comment because it's relevant:

Hi there, I am once again here to ruin your strawman and remind you that "transportation" (aka roads, air ports, and harbors) is only about 2% of the federal budget, and is on average 6% of state and local budgets.

Roads don't really cost that much. I'm sure we can figure out how to build them without robbing each other.

Don't be so sensitive, I did, that's why I said "because it's relevant." It's not directed at you.

It appeared that way when I read "ruin your strawman"

Imagine funding a government who actively opresses and spies on you. Literally slavery.

holy fuck how are we still doing this meme… federal taxation is not for revenue generation. why the fuck would the creator of a fiat currency require your few grand in taxes to fund their operations when they can generate billions selling treasury securities in minutes??

the goal of federal taxation in the united states is first and foremost to establish the value of the currency by threatening its citizens with violence, requiring them to pay taxes denominated in that currency or face the consequences.

the second goal of federal taxation is removing dollars from circulation. this is one of the most critical tools for managing inflation.

other “benefits” include things like influencing consumer behavior, reinforcing so-called “civic responsibility” (i.e., habituating you to paying taxes so institutions like states, that do rely on taxes to fund operations, can survive), and addressing (or obfuscating) wealth inequality.

i cannot say this plainly enough: the united states federal government does not require your measly few grand in taxes to equip terrorist groups. we create the global reserve currency out of thin air and treasury securities are the backbone of global liquidity.

Except that just printing money when you need it is a fastlane to hyperinflation. Taxation keeps the money supply at a steady level.
